My maltipoo is 15 and has grade 5 heart murmur. He is currently on vetmedin and it has been working for the past year now but these past couple of days I’ve noticed he has been coughing more often and seems like he has difficulty breathing. His coughing is more noticeable and it makes me concerned. I’m sure it isn’t comfortable not being able to breathe normally. I want to take him to an emergency vet clinic rather than the vet I usually take him to. I know a pet emergency clinic is more expensive than a regular vet but they don’t have the tools that an emergency clinic has and I want my questions answered now. I most definitely will take him to the pet emergency clinic for an exam and an x-ray to determine what my decision will be when it’s closer to his time. He still has energy. He can run, bark, eats plenty, play and jump. His heart just gets tired. I don’t have him jumping around too much or his heart will work too hard and he’ll get a seizure. I don’t want to put him to sleep if he still can walk and run perfectly fine. That seems wrong to do. Would you pull the plug on your grandmother who still walks around and can feed herself but she has a terrible cough and takes multiple medications? I’m aware humans and dogs are completely different. I just cant bring myself to let my dog go if he still shows that he is capable to walk towards me on his own and wag his tail when I come home from work.
My dog had this, swollen Abcess on one side. It was very hard and red.. i only applied a hot towel on the are or washed her anal region with hot water once a day. It popped after a couple days and i pressed out the puss and cleaned few times a day with some saline solution and she was fine after that. I changed her diet and she had diarea for 1-2 week and she got it again. So i now know she gets it when she's had diarea for a while.

My dog was having what looks like muscle spasms and almost falling over. I thought she was having extremely short seizures. The vet found her thyroid is completely non functioning after a blood test. But i haven't seen anyone note this symptom.
I have been successful in treating two separate pet experiences with Parvo; my schnauzers survived with receiving fluids intrascapular subcutaneously. 2 of the 3 survived, the only one who died was how I discovered it was Parvo - it died at the vets, all others I took care of at home. Currently, I have a Cocker Spaniel 1-2 year old with Parvo - started my own IV and receiving IV Fluids at home. Fingerscrossed she will make it! The problem I have with vets, is that they often want to treat the wallet and forget to treat the patient.

My dog just came home from kennel. He is making a choking sound but he has also ripped open a stuffed animal I'm worried about that has well.
He’s just upset and taking it out on a public platform which is never a good idea. Amputation as an outcome when planning malignant tumour removal with margins from a dog’s limb is extremely common. Owner compliance and time frames weren’t clear here. He’s probably pissed he had to pay for the amp. Take aways - attend the consult yourself or at very least speak to vet on the phone. - communication and continuity of care are so important - complications happen. Life happens. Disappointing outcomes happen. Make the best of it. - Accept responsibility for following after care, and paying for it. I will say, as far as amputations go, some clients can accept and deal with that possibility reasonably, and others are horrified that you might even suggest it. It’s definitely a divisive topic. I’m actually annoyed that he’s bagging the vet when he’s a medical professional himself.
Thank you for the information - however it would be much better to see examples of the coughs. I've just taken a video of my dog's cough to take to the vet - I'm sure you have access to lots of these which would be really helpful!

My dog was healthy active ate lots chessapeak then I gave him nexgsrd.. 3 weeks very little water and even less desire to eat.. hope he doesn't starve himself to death.. nexgard made him have severe diarrhea lethargy wobbly balance and this issue.. I hate nexgard!!
Hello, Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately my dog stopped to eat. He has cancer and since started to take the medicines, and definitively since he received a quimioterapia he’s not eating. Since at least 3 weeks is like this. The vet told to give him a joghurt. Yesterday he accepted the joghurt, but today not. I am trying to vary the food, but he’s not eating. He took a medicine to avoid nausea for 3 days. We didn’t really got a result. I don’t know anymore what to do!

My dog has had 11 seizures in the last seven months. They have taken his vision, his hearing and now it's crippling him. With the vision and hearing loss he looks drunk all the time and is constantly hitting his head and getting ulcers in his eyes because he runs into things so since he can't see he hits his eyeballs into things. He's on diazepam and Levetiracetam. He sometimes has cluster seizures. He's 15.5 y/o. His last seizure I now have to hold him to poo and sometimes to eat/drink water. These past two weeks he's been having accidents inside, since the last seizure. I HATE what seizures are doing to him. HATE IT!! I'm so angry. He was my husband's service animal and he was very, very good at his responsibilities in caring for his dad. I love this boy so much. With ea seizure he also loses weight. He was 35 lbs now he's 24. Like a commenter below said, she holds her dog while it's seizing. I do the same. I hold him tightly because he can't hear me but I need him to know I'm there with him. My heart goes out to all dogs who suffer seizures and to their owners who have to witness them. It's heartbreaking.
I would ask for phenobarbital and potassium bromide. They do have their accompanying side effects, but they're so good for seizure control. Hope your dog feels better. 💟

My boerboel is suffering from cherry eyes. We took her to the Vet for the procedure, in about a week's time it was back. I was very disappointed.

Just found out I caused my dogs kidney failure due to not getting her teeth cleaned in a timely manner and the infection in her teeth affected her kidneys. I am such a bad dog mom. 😢

I have a border terrier who some times coughs a little bit but only seems to be when I get in from work and she gets excited. I even take her running with me and she never seems to struggle with breathing. Do you think this is just down to over excitement?
