This game is essentially Groundhog Day but with giant ants. The way you learn better and better what happens, where, when and why the more you play through the 2 weeks until you eventually become the ultimate movie hero.

Clone of Sierra graphics, although I prefer Quests' scale and perspective when it comes to that type of vector graphics. I am glad Lucasarts hired Ferrari and that's when the real magic happened in the EGA realm...

The funniest part of this game was when after performing a mega stunt (e.g. that jump across the gap, or the 'roller coaster leap'), I would always get the message 'WRECK' despite not crashing! Nevertheless, both this game and its pre-cursor 'Hard Drivin' set the tone for many post-1990 rally car games!

4:17 Is that the unused game over music track? Because it sounds a bit off. And if it's in this port then that means it's not unused.

I got the maximum score at the end of the game, but it freezes during the end scene where the dialog box "The presentation is about to begin as you listen to the band..." pops up. This only happens when I play the Amiga version on SCUMMVM.

This was perhaps the most technically perfect game on the Amiga. The game loaded quickly and no loading was necessary afterwards. It was way ahead of its time, especially the playable (!!!) 3D vector graphics were a novelty in this form at the time. If you imagine that the entire game information found its place on a 1.4 MB floppy disk. Unbelievable. I never managed to push my opponent off the ramp.

Is it just me, or does this recording seem a little slow? All the music sounds like it's running at 75% speed... Is it just like that on Amiga? A shame if it is, feels like they maybe didn't try as hard on the Amiga port as they did with the PC version. I feel like surely the Amiga is powerful enough that both versions should have been about on-par with one another?

"The co-designer of Zak McKracken was a musician named Matt Kane who wanted a very acoustically rich game environment. We hired an engineer to focus on the Amiga sounds and one morning he was working on the sound effect for the exploding egg. He had filled his bathtub with water and spent the entire morning recording the sound of a water balloon hitting the water. At that rate, three months would have been added to our schedule, so instead we licensed a sound effect library! If you listen closely in the airport, you can hear the first few notes of the John Denver song 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' playing at about 1/100th speed." -- Aric Wilmunder (SCUMM story creator)
