A tribute to WVEC during the the mid 1990s when the "Spirit of Hampton Roads" peaked. This was a special time in WVEC's history. Jim Kincaid, Cynthia Lima, Barbara Ciara, Terry Zahn, and many other journlaists anchored and reported on 13 News. The promotions of the time period were also excellent.

I'll check!
We need more of this
We need to upload more of this
I wish they would bring this back
I just noticed the absence of a sports anchor in the open... this was right after Mike Fabrizio left.
Home❤
Let’s pretend that side #1 is Terry Zahn and Jeff Lawson, and that side #2 is Barbara Ciara and Scott Cash.
The koopa brothers Brought me here
Hi.
Hello.

USA NEWS 615 Music
USA NEWS - 615 Music
RIP Terry Zahn You were one of the worlds greatest anchor reporters!
Could Jeff look anymore dorky?
It is. "USA News" was commissioned by WUSA Washington D.C. in 1991.
I have a WVEC newscast on tape from October 6, 1991 with the old logo used in the 80s (I uploaded the open). It definitely didn't debut in 1991. I think it was late 1992 that the "boxy 13" logo was introduced and these image spots, right?
Nice cit of Stavinsky!
Yup. That track of Stravinsky was infamously used as the radar loop music for News 14 Carolina from 2002 to 2013, and on its successor networks from 2013 until August 2020.
Yes, it is USA News by 615 Music
I wish they could have kept the theme music better than tegna version
This package is USA News if I'm correct. I never liked the sound of it.
Are you sure that they changed to this in 1998, and that these aren't the graphics used from 1996-1998? If so, this package must have been really short-lived... the "Thirteen Means News" image started in late 1998.
ntropolis Regarding the clip, since the 1998 General Assembly session is mentioned as well as George Allen's term as Governor winding down, this most likely would be no later than mid-January 1998 (also think this was not long after Terry Zahn was first diagnosed with bone cancer)
@@hrtvfan2870 these graphics sort of look like the ones used by the Media General-owned stations (WCBD Charleston, WTVQ Lexington, WSLS Roanoke etc...).
Actually, It Was Used From 1996-2008
1992 as an anchor/reporter I think... she replaced Nesita Kwan. She moved to the weekday co-anchor spot vacated by Cynthia Lima in 1997.
Northeast PA is far from a boring place to live, especially recently (The revival of Scranton, Hazleton's illegal immigration battle, the expansion of the Poconos becoming "Wall Street West", etc.). As a lifelong resident of the area, I can assure you NEPA isn't as boring as some perceive. And besides that, Mike Lewis very much respected & loved here in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, and he has said he enjoys this area a great deal. WVEC's loss very much became WNEP's gain.
That's Doc Morgan with the VO.
Yep. It's just a coincidence. This particular Mike Lewis is at WNEP in Scranton. He must've really wanted to be a main anchor to move from a nice place like Tidewater to an incredibly boring place like Northeast PA.
I like the view of the studio.
So Do I
This is a close every newscast producer should watch.
