Thanks for the video. I'm looking at the Golf GTE Advance as an option when I retire next month. I have driven a Kia Niro 2 Hybrid and a Kia Xceed PHEV for the last 5 years as company cars, so I am a bit of a nerd regarding how those perform. Kia Hybrid's computer run in a permanent regenerative mode, even when driving in full EV, although the optional sport mode lessens the slight drag. Compared to colleagues driving BMW and Audi company cars, I pay £136/month company car tax, compared to their £400+/month, based on a 40% benefit calculation - Yippeth !! Also, nobody during the videos mentions the cost of an electric charge (it ain't free), nor how much an actual gallon of petrol costs, as they sell in litres (just under 5 litres = I gallon), so presently at £1.30/litre = £6.50/gallons. The Zap-Map website advises that a home charge for the Golf GTE, based on 14p/kWh, costs £1.20 for a full charge (so that's 8.5kWh usage of the quoted GTE 8.7kWh battery capacity). This, therefore achieves 4.9p/mile, whereas the likes of a Morrisons charger costs 29p/kWh with a fuel card, so nearer to 10-12p/mile. Basing that on a 500 mile range/tankfull for a Kia drive, 500 miles of electric costs £19.92, compared to £36.00 for a tank of petrol with regenerative hybrid assist, I'd just need to recharge 16 times along the way if using EV mode only. My Kia Xceed PHEV has an overnight charging timer Ap, so cheaper kWh rates can be used without 2am visits to the driveway. My Kia EV range is very similar to the Golf GTE and a combined Kia Hybrid regenerative drive can achieve realtime 80-100 local and 65-72 miles on motorways (and you will visibly see the range extend from the regenerative systems), with a big difference between 60 & 70 mph. It will be interesting to compare the Golf GTE on a gentle GTE drive, using the regenerative B mode when slowing (Kia does this automatically). So, in August 2021, the cost of a second hand GTE, with under 40k mileage, is £17-20K, whereas the Kia PHEV options are limited due to only being available since around 2019, so presently costing over £26k 2nd hand. For now, the Golf GTE is my slightly cheaper option to buy and use, whilst I'd say the spec and quality of the cars is similar, the Kia 3-4 models being on par with GTE Advance spec. I hope this is useful info, my apologies for the less nerdy out there, my brain spends all day running this type of process !! PS - I do also enjoy driving

I’m sure Quaife do a bigger one, up to something mad like 7-800hp, but it is literally bigger, whereas this one is just little and fits nicely in the tunnel.
@@Judoman7 I'll post a clip or 2 once she's back. But I'll definitely be needing sequential, no question.....having time to think will be a problem! Thanks for the answer.
I've got my car back and it's bonkers! Here's a clip the guy that did the conversion posted (90% done at the point this video was made, now has it's exhaust too). kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4mWtsefl9PTfLA.html
It’s flaming noisy on the motorway!
24 Bellers amateur set up.
well the 220 hp gti only goes 0,5 seconds faster to 60 than the 204hp gte
*What a shame there is so much background noise it's difficult to hear you !*
Best car I have ever bought. 1300 miles my record on a full tank
malc70000 wait, what? That‘s much better than many Diesel Cars.. Insane!
Kevin I would guess he charged the car many times within that one tank of fuel
Actually, GTE can drive up to 939km using two engines what is mentioned in docs. I believe this value can change up to the driving style but not 1300 miles)
If you're driving fully electric, is it not more efficient to drive on a half tank (or less)? Less weight for the electric engine to move?
The fuck are you lying that is impossible and you know it
Thanks for the extensive review 🙌🏻
What would you reckon you spent on electric over the 2 years though. I would say they prob cost a lot to charge.
I really must work on a video for this explanation, its a common question. The short answer is electricity is cheaper than petrol/diesel, 1 mile electric costs about 3p compared to 12p from a Golf GTI.
@@Judoman7 Thanks. I had always wondered. In northern ireland we pay about 17pence per kilowatt of electric. There are some free charging ports at shopping centres but they always being used so hard to get one to use so most people charge from home were they pay for it.
@@rd1329 I see, I allowed 13ppkwh in my rough calculation there. True, more infrastructure would be nice.
Nice one.
Do you still have the Golf? Because im thinking of buying the ''old'' GTE 2015 but i just want to know if you have big problems, ive heard that the batterypack can get some problems and when that hapens it cost a lot i have to drive just a littile les then 35km a day so what do you think should i go for a gte or a normal 1.4 or a cnc (gas) Audi g-tron?
GoProSession still have it. Over 50,000 miles now and no issues regarding the battery to report. I share your concern, I intend to remain the guinea pig though. I’d go for the GTE yes.
@@Judoman7 Thank you very much, and do you think the miles are importand? i mean normal you dont buy a car with under the 100.000kilometers but do you think 120.000 is a great start or do you think if have to put a few 1000 euros more for les kilometers
GoProSession that’s uncharted territory for me, so, I can’t offer an opinion I’m afraid.
what is the maintenance schedule and what are the cost? Thank you
Kristijan Pancur Hi there, sorry for the late reply. It’s more or less just the same as other cars (price and interval), every 10,000 miles.
@@Judoman7 thank you 😃
Hi super video I have to say, thinking seriously about buying one. Is it as quick as a e-golf when it's in electric mode? Or has the e-golf got more powerful electric motors?
kevin mccarthy I don’t know, I’ve not driven the e-golf.
I get my golf gte next week it will be a 2014 so of you have any tips let me know
Edwin Lange I hope you like it. Gentle footwork helps and make use of the e-manager departure times to warm the car up first.
A great honest review, I just may now, I just may! 😊
Nice review mate
I'm toying with which golf to buy atm I'm doing 20000 miles a year which includes 70mile commute (35miles to work and back) there is a selection of people who have nissan leafs and charge them so I'd hope that i would be able to charge my car but I'm budgeting on the fact that i won't be able to charge, I also do shift work so quite often I'll be getting in the car after the missus has been driving it all day and verser visa so pure electric isn't an option currently, I'd consider bmw i3 but its a little small for me. And also 35 mile commute is pretty much pure dual carriageway i suspect I'm looking at a petrol and diesel tbh but I'd love to get one of these if the numbers work...
Fiscally I suspect it might not work out for you, however if you're in the second hand market then there is less premium to pay up front compared to the alternatively priced golfs.
I am on my way to buy a Passat GTE in about 20 minutes, essentially the same thing, can't wait. My commute is only about 20KM every day, should be interesting
What sort of mileage does it get when the engine is just set to charge the batteries?
Without being in fully electric mode (driving as a hybrid), what would be a mileage in town with mid to heavy traffic (cca on a 40km daily commute )?
I got my GTE Advance two weeks ago after waiting 7 months for it. I want height adjustable coilovers to reduce the massive wheel arch gap to that of the R and to soften the ride. Any suggestions?
Greg Worcester none. Modifications to this car seem scarce. Sounds like a nice idea though, let me know how it goes if you get it done.
Awesome any more vids?
something specific?
Nice video mate
I like them (for a company car) but do they still make them? 7.5 Screen is so much better than the 7
Tommy T I think they might actually be having trouble fulfilling orders due to ‘unprecedented demand’.
are you telling me you would drive 200 miles and back and not stop off to pee or get a drink?? OR EVEN REST???????
On occasion, yeah, sure, why not. Maybe it depends on individual attention span
