How do you have the R jetted? I’m finally about to pick one up and I’m going to be riding with my boy and wife so I won’t be able to rip wide open a lot. Trail riding at croom like this. Ripping it on my own here and there through out the day.

keihin 38mm A/S carb 192 main, 52 pilot, cgj needle on the second clip, air screw 1.5 turns out. Unless you have the exact same setup as me and running the same fuel as me the jetting won't be the same.

Awesome line up! Modded very nicely! Not sure if you have covered this before, but what are you running for coolant? I used to run Peak EcoShield with slightly more distilled water, 60/40, and a few ounces of water wetter. Great combo and helped a ton. Engine Ice is good too, but way overpriced. In fact, I think their formula is mostly distilled water (water cools better than any coolant) which is why they don't recommend it in very cold climates.

Thank you! I don't believe I have ever done a video just discussing coolant, but I usually only run 50/50 pre-diluted prestone. I used to run engine ice when I was younger and less informed lol. You are correct and a lot of people here in FL run 100% distilled water with a little bit of that redline water wetter for anti-corrosive properties. The more water, the better the cooling. I've never overheated due to coolant, so I just stick with what works and what I can get on nearly any shelf.

Hey man, love your vids, I was wondering if it’s worth having a 400 and a 450 at the same time since they are both very different and you could use one for x and the other for y or simply have a 400/450 to do all?

Thank you. That's a great question. If you have the space and don't mind the up keep on an extra machine I say it's definitely worth having both. Like you said you can have one for a specific task like woods and play riding and the other for tracks or competion. Sometimes I get tired of having more work to do and just want to consolidate it back to 1 machine but I know I would miss the others. It's also nice having a buddy bike laying around for someone else to ride occasionally.

I just picked up an 09 that doesn’t run went over it yesterday checked valves and timing and just found the injector isn’t spraying. OEM is close to $300 for one. Have you had to replace yours? If so which way did you go?

I haven't had to replace mine yet, but there are 3 options. OEM (route I would personally go), Five-O Motorsports supposedly makes a good replacement, or send yours to Fuel Injector Connection and have them clean and test yours, it only runs $25-$40. If the injector isn't spraying, the entire fuel system needs gone through. New Pump, New Swirl Filter, Test, clean, or replace the pressure regulator. If you only do one (like the injector) it will just plug right back up or another component will fail. Do the entire system at once if you actually want to ride it and have a lot of trouble free miles. I've since gone to a submersible KTM SXF fuel pump with built in FPR. So much nicer and cleaner than the factory setup.

i want to build my kfx, do you have any engine mods? if so what do you have? i want to get a 490 kit and do all of that and then the cosmetic stuff and suspension but not sure if it would be worth it or not. btw i have a 434 kit and a slip on exhaust and im not super happy with the performance, but i love the ltz and kfx platforms so i want to keep it but get that performance similar to a modern bike.

Yes, I have covered it in a few of my walk through videos. For where I ride, I really like the 434 kit, DRZe kit (thinner base gasket to bump compression and dual rate valve springs, Hot cams, FCR Carb, Dynatek CDI, and a lightened flywheel. These mods will really wake up the 400 motor and put it on par with a 450 in the woods. I have no experience with a 470 or 490 kit, I am sure they are monsters but I am hard on transmissions and already chipped a tooth on 3rd gear with a stock motor I'd hate to see what a torque monster like a 490 would do over a period of time. When I want to go real fast I have the 250R and LTR. Good luck and have fun, excellent platform to build on!

Do you still have the 250r? I’m getting back into the sport after riding a bunch as a kid but am pushing 40 and debating between a trx/yfz 4stroke or going the 250r (have always wanted one) route. I came across your 250r trail videos and I live just south of croom. You’re videos restored my faith that the 250r could be a good trail machine after I had written it off. Any thoughts would be awesome. Love the videos man.

Hey Nathan, I actually recorded a video not too long ago but the audio didn't work so I had to scrap it but, I talked about the big bore and how I probably have 250+ hours on it since installing it exactly 3 years ago. Zero issues! Highly recommend the cylinder works kit.
