The Graft Man

Growing trees all day every day. This channel is a visual diary of all my gardening projects. I graft trees, grow trees from cuttings, plant seeds, plant trees, and do all sorts of gardening experiments. I show you all of the results, regardless of failure or success. My garden is in Southern California, zone 10.

    I'm in zone 9b (25deg F). If I plant a single Mexicola Grande tree, could I get fruit by grafting B type scions for a multigrafted tree? versus planting a second tree next to it? Trying to weigh the pros and cons of multiple trees vs a single multigrafted tree.

    I hear Strawberry Guava as a “rare” fruit and here it grows wild like a weed. It’s actually invasive and they are slowly being eradicated. Amazing fruit but it just takes over the environment. The wood is strong and should be used for building material. I believe anyway. I’ve seen acres and acres of land that was cleared by bulldozers that was 90% strawberry guava. Just piles and piles of it pushed together 40 feet high. Talk about a weird feeling when I hear that strawberry guava is rare elsewhere but a nuisance here where I live.

  • @AJTheGraftMan
    @AJTheGraftMan9 күн бұрын

    Yes when i went to Hawaii, the locals were telling me about how invasive it was. I saw forests of it everywhere. It was shocking to see. The fruit is great but I'm happy to know something is being done about it

    Interesting that the pitanga has resin just like a mango, and I will assume they impart different flavors like you pointed out (Indian mango resinous flavor). With that said, I have a seedling that I can detect a coconut flavor, and the fruit is a lighter red/pink.
