    Hi Jacob, my son has a 79 firebird previous owner put a TA nose. It has a 307, probably not the original motor that my son is dying to dump into the river. He's got a friend offering him a chevy 350. Im a mopar guy but i don't believe a chevy engine block will bolt onto a Buick/Oldsmobile type trans his Pontiac came with. Am i correct? I also believe there are many other challenges with this Chevy to Pontiac engine swap which i told him to research. Could you folks detail them as with every kid, us parents are never right. Lol. Thanks...looking forward to your comments. Ed

    @edwinramos519 I know you can get an adapter for sbc to bop trans off Summit or Jegs. They are less than $100. I think the rest should mostly bolt up. GM is generally pretty good with sharing parts. The Chevy 350 should bolt right in. The Firebird in this vid was originally a 6 cylinder. Previous owner swapped in the Chevy 350. Should be an easy swap, I say go for it!

    I dropped in a 4 bolt main 5.7 Vortec in my 1992 Chevy Z71 and it made a huge difference and a Holley sniper unit integrates perfect in those old TBI setups they are a great EFI very simple but a bitch to tune i bought a pre programmed chip for mine which helped a ton

    I’m wanting to do a small turbo and do a torque oriented build. I’m pretty sure it’s possible because there’s upgrades you can do to a TBI. I’m thinking vortec heads and a decent intake and turn the fuel regulator up and swap a better fuel pump and there ya go. What gave me this idea was horsepower TV and that big block ford build. I also like the TBI’s because they just work. I personally know no one that’s had issues with them besides the lack of power.

    Beautiful classic Buick. Love to see these still in working condition. Yes, sitting that long will take lots and crankin' & pumpin' to get the gas up, but overall that wasn't too bad considering how long it's been sleeping. Hope to see more videos of this one. Great camera angle by the way. We get to see the whole car which is great. maybe another cold start video when it gets cold again.

    I would want to figure out how to make an adjustable ratio fuel pressure regulator. stock pressure off boost, scaled higher on boost. 1:1 is just keeping constant pressure accross the injector. Zero additional fuel.

  • @gt-37guy6

    I was not a fan of his starting technique....all starter - no working the throttle (at all!). My Buick 455 would Never start if I did it like him. I juice it with the pedal like mad and she pops fast. 1 / 20th of the stater he uses. It helps to have the ignition hooked up as well....😅

  • @1985hond125
    @1985hond1256 ай бұрын

    @EAndrePG Starters are cheaper and easier to change than main/rod bearings. The car has the same starter from 8+ years ago and I purposely let it crank to build oil pressure often.

  • @1985hond125
    @1985hond1256 ай бұрын

    @gt-37guy6 I intentionally let it crank to get oil pressure building/moving before it starts firing. I can work the throttle all day, if the fuel pump is off it won't do anything! Once I turn the fuel pump on I pump the shit out of it and it fires quickly. Regardless of the ignition/choke issues, shit happens.

  • @gt-37guy6
    @gt-37guy66 ай бұрын

    @@1985hond125 Yup, I get what you're doing building oil pressure...she had sat for a while. Once you have the pressure up and Distrib powered I start pumping the gas pedal and mine pops quick...that was my only point. That is allot of motor in that Skylark....yee ha! I met a guy that dumped in a 430 in this 69 Lark - had it bullt up quite a bit...he had to sell it - too fast for his Drivers Licence retention he said.

The gut that installed the motor in the car use to run mid 12's at the drag strip with it. the only thing he did to the motor besides the cam & headers was he gasket matched the heads and stock intake. He tried an Edelbrock intake and a Holley carb but he got better elapsed times from the stock manifold and the Quadrujet carb

    Those Holley pumps easily over power the needle seats in the carb unregulated. Should have an oil pressure switch hooked up to make sure the pump doesn't run when the engine isn't. Only need 5-6psi for a carb.
