You definitely need to tighten your drag up a bit, you want your drag set so when the fish does start to run so your drag should start to work also and as the fishes run increases so to your drag work rate increases. Winding while your drag is working is a waste of time as your not retrieving much line if any at all. Pump and wind when the fish allows you to and let your drag do the work when the fish runs. A good starting point to set your drag is tighten it to a point that you can just pull line off the reel with your hand making sure your pulling the line off about 15-20 cm after the bail arm. When this is done just loosen your drag off about a quarter to half of a turn and your drag will be roughly where it needs to be.

Thank you mate! This is one area I definitely need to improve. I’ve upgraded to some better reels now with better drag but need to still use it correctly. Thank you for your pointers. I know a lot of people who keep fish out of the Brisbane river but I don’t myself (there are a few signs up regarding a contamination incident in the river at the moment). @nigiessquidgies5 ай бұрын

Hi Mate, no problem. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the feedback too. I’m glad to hear you want to chase some bream with lures. It’s definitely NOT easy at first to catch bream on soft plastics. It takes time, practice and persistence. The bream are very picky so you need good fluorocarbon leader 6lb- 10lb. You need to make sure your lures are threaded straight with the correct weighted jig heads for the current. Then you need a good scent like S Factor. I fish generally the hour leading up to high tide and the hour leading up to low tide for best results. You have think about your spot and think where the pressure points are. Where bream will be waiting for food to wash off rocks or get caught in an eddy etc. You have to work your plastic or hard body lure very slowly and take note of every little bump on your lure. Keep you drag loose and tighten it once they strike and start ripping like off. Lastly work it across currents and along rock walls etc. Twitch every now and then. With Bream focus on getting your numbers up with any size bream and then once you can consistently get them then go for size. It’s NOT easy mate but just keep practicing and you will get them.

Hi Mate, no problems at the the details of this exact setup are as follows: Rod: Diawa 20 TD Black DEEPSTRIKER 703MLFS 3-6kg Reel: Diawa Legalis LT 4000 D-C Braid: Nomad Design Panderra X8 15lb Blue Leader: Diawa J-Thread 10lb FC Leader Jig Head: 1/6 2/0 TT Jig Head Light gauge Lure: Zman 3inch MinnowZ in Motor Oil Colour This setup is a little heavy for bream fishing specifically, I'm using it just in case I hook a mangrove jack, Jewfish or a big cod. I would recommend a 2500 or 3000 size reel with a good quality 2-4kg rod and 10lb braid. The Brisbane river has some BIG fish in it so I've got this heavier setup just in case I hook a solid fish. Good luck and please ask me any questions.

@@rozeljoy1651 A Shimano Vanford 2500 would be perfect for the estuaries. I have a few friends with them and they are an excellent reel. That’s a great choice of rod too. I spoke to one of my friends who works at a fishing store who said the Medium Light zodias will be awesome with a 2500 Vanford. It will be a very versatile setup and sensitive to fish hits on lures which improves your hook up rate a lot as you can sense what’s happening with the lure. That would be a very good all around setup for the estuaries. Make sure you look at the recommended lure casting weights for the rod too as that’s important depending on what lures you fish with. It would only be a bit difficult if you hook a big Jack but they make any rod and reel seem small as they go crazy!! Haha. Cheers and good luck with getting a new setup. Thanks heaps brother! Yes, it was awesome to catch those. Especially in the one session. It’s the first session with these plastics so I’ll have to get some more and have another go soon. This was all filmed yesterday afternoon. After the sun came out! It was hot weather but worth it to get those fish. Thank heaps brother! 🎣 💯

Thanks mate. It’s good to see the water wasn’t too dirty. You must have lost a couple of kilograms of sweat with the humidity. Looking forward to more of your videos.

@@JH-nh9xx yes mate! It wasn’t an easy session. Had to drink about 2 litres of water afterwards haha. Cheers brother! 🎣 💯

Hey mate, do you wear waders or anything in this spot? I've fished here a few times and I've been smashed by sea lice here.. :(

Hey mate, I’ve worn waders fishing at similar spots and they are very good to use - I highly recommend them. I’m just wearing jeans, thick socks and strong thongs (a stone fish couldn’t pierce). There are heaps of Mozzies, sand flies, sea lice etc. Plus big sting rays, mud crabs, blue swimmers and I’ve even caught a stone fish here. So I highly recommend some high quality Wilson waders at this spot. If the tide is low (last hour or two) you can walk out without waders. Basically the further out you can get at high tide - the better advantage you have for big fish! Hope you enjoyed the video mate! It was a cracking session with 3 BIG bream. Yew!

Thanks for the reply mate, that's great... will have to look into getting myself a pair! I am a big fan of this spot and this video showcased some of the bigger fellas that get around here! Keep up the good work, great video!

@@Haydoe thanks heaps mate & glad you liked the video. Yeah, my biggest bream here was 38.5cm but they are very smart when they get bigger. It’s not easy to get them. Appreciate it brother and good luck with your fishing! 🎣 💯 cheers!

Hey Solarmax, yeah, those big tailor are pretty crazy! I was so confused because I could see the big tailor but it wasn’t running and I was waiting for it to take off screaming drag. Always have expect the unexpected when flicking lures! Cheers brother! :)

That would have been exciting to experience. Sad News for the little flattie though. But tailor do attack the tails.

Thanks for the comment. It was definitely a crazy experience. I thought the tailor was hooked couldn’t work out why it wasn’t taking off quicker as it was HUGE. Unfortunately for the little flathead it wasn’t good, but I still released it and it actually swam off pretty quickly. It’s just the food chain, there is not much sympathy in the fish world. Especially in more remote areas like this. Next minute the sharks will probably arrive. Thanks for the comment mate!

@@nigiessquidgies No worries. It looks like a different sort of place to fish. So many interesting places still to explore.

Thank you very much mate! I appreciate it. Yeah, that bridge is going to be an awesome fishing spot once it’s all completed. It’s definitely a good spot for bream fishing with lures. I always get some good hits there on soft plastics, particularly in the channel that goes through. Good luck with your fishing brother! 🎣 💯
