    I would stay away from controversial topics like carrying weapons on a boat

    Agreed but as a NE boat not necessary. Also, not necessary in the trades. Plus you need a generator( not needed as big alternators and battery banks take care of all her power needs). She does have an air cooled a/c unit that runs 6 months a year when she is at her dock. Moreover, she has central diesel heat which is used all the time in NE. Finally, a/c could be added anytime as she has a sea chest , but they are watercooled units and have their own set of problems. Never use boat if it is that hot anyway.

    A little TLC and it'll be good to go 'the loop' and down to the Bahamas and back for years. I like it allot.The dockage is reasonable with the amenities it offers too.

    They aged out. Good reason to sell as sailing like most things is a young person's game. Yeah imagine a 70yo climbing a 50' mast I don't think so! Fin keels you can have those things I ain't venturing out of land's sight with one of those. Beautiful boat though and its steel which is a huge plus. But that fin keel would turn me off.

    Good points but as a big wall climber in the past and having climbed all over the world- Iron Mistress has SEABIRD mast steps and along with a safety line I can still climb the mast in my late seventies- but the clock is ticking and I know it.I don’t want to do that anymore!

  • @IronLady-ej3dp

    The keel is a cutaway forefoot full keel design- not a fin keel

    (The outboard boats have a full planing hull, I'd go with the diesel for a a more stable ride in waves, and not having to lean over the edge to check the outboard. (It is slowerv though, 15 for the R31 vs 30 for the R27) Diesel's last a LONG time, it's unlikely you 'ed have swap a diesel, but even if you did, it's all in the cockpit, and easy to remove.

    She looks like a hole for pouring money away. BUT $25,000 buys a strong set of bones, another $100,000 and you would have a $2M job to show off in.

    Your comments, after 02:30; when you point-out 'spider cracking', the vessel's age (1977), and that "she has a lot more life in her". Do you feel that there is any 'realistic' cut-off to purchase a fibreglass boat, in terms of years since construction, IF she has been well-maintained? How often should a new gelcoat be applied? What are the frequency parameters for polishing fibreglass? Given the 'spider cracks', and that there could be (salt) water ingress through these, how would you rectify these and how soon should these be repaired? A discourse on this would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • @HarborPilotYachtTours
    @HarborPilotYachtTours6 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment. I will try to address this next time. I see it on a boat. You wouldn’t recoat boat but you would consider repainting it. There really shouldn’t be any concern with Water getting through the gel code is basically like the paint finish on a car. I wouldn’t worry about the spider cracks except for cosmetic reasons.

    That was part of the boat’s security system at anchor-there are no production boats that have hatch bars. It was taken from a short from the creator of the video. Thats how you tube works. There was no ill intent with it and to be honest there is really not much you can divulge about security on yachts- that said, commonsense and imagination and you can figure out the rest

    Ridiculous pricing very strange design narrow beam boat in the Atlantic? Side decks of 4 inches ? Always amazes me as an old sailboat guy how powerboats many times miss the concept of getting to a foredeck safely . Anchor gets fouled and fresh breeze is kicking up …. So you have 4 inches …. For this money get a Pursuit made in Florida for Florida waters

    I remember the first time I saw a Grand Banks at the boat show it was very impressive with its solid polished wood construction but them days they were made in Sweeden, and also the Winny from Norway was very solidly build in fiberglass much smaller of course made in Scandinavia it always meant Top quality

    As grounded and professional captain and his yacht as one could listen to and review. My own 30K n.mi. ranged n. me. to lesser antilles over 20 yrs incl the Bahamas in the drug days. Wish we had the steel barred hatches, etc., and deck alarm. We were only deeply concerned twice but in isolated places such concerns can linger in the mind far beyond the incident (and necessity). A must watch video for anyone considering serious, prolonged blue water adventures.
