NOT FOR HYPE BEASTS! - I've been a "sneakerhead" most of my life and built a solid sneaker collection of around 200 pairs.. BUT feel the "scene" has lost any REAL sense of community and sick and tired of seeing the same kicks online or on feet. Namely Jordan 1 (fukin Mids!), Nike Dunk Lows and Yeezy Peezy 350's!
So I started a mission to sell my entire collection and just focus on my favourite sneaker of all time... the Asics Gel Lyte 3!

I saw the 180 back in 90s and it blew my mind as a kid! I remember the nike exhibition at the science museum back then about this shoe..never got a pair! 30 years plus I'm still taking L's on the 180 😅
if asics copied then they copied adidas forum 84. just take a look the front of the sneaker, they look nothing like 550! also asics are not as round as 550. on feet 550 are narrower and longer but asics look bulkier. not a good comparison.

You’re half right. They had a low version in 94 because I had em. The black canvas pair is literally the same pair I had minus the supreme logo. That’s all to they did to the shoe.

@@thegellyfe I’m a teacher and track coach. Runners/trainers are my go to, they’re just more versatile.
They’re obviously a beautiful classic but I have the SB 4s so I can’t justify buying another almost identical pair just with blue instead of green. If I didn’t have any white 4s though I’d grab these. You made them look really nice with the light washed denim.

Diadora is such an underrated brand. But maybe it's better-especially for sneakerheads like us who don't care about trends and actually have they're own opinion and style. In my opinion, silhouettes like diadora N9000, S8000 or GEL-Lyte 3 are timeless and are worth more than another itteration of nike dunks or j1. Peace:]

You suggested that ASICS sort of copied the 550. I just think basketball shoes around the late eighties have a similar look and silhouette. The NB 550 to me has strong similarities to the Adidas Forum. Both have to compete marketwise against the Nike Dunk and the reissued Adidas Forum. I have to credit Nike in the Dunk, the Jordan 1 and the AF1 for keeping the retro basketball shoe craze alive that inspired to return the NB550 to the market in the first place, and Asics move with the EX89 isn't aimed at New Balance but Nike. For this reason so did Adidas with the Forum.

The older and more experienced I get in this industry. I realize Kanye isn’t what everyone paints him out to be. Him along with others in the space capitalize off true creatives’ ideas and abilities. Guy is just an arrogant fraud whose best days are far behind him.

You really did your homework and I agree, Kanye is not a designer. I’d say he isn’t even a creative when it comes to sneaker designs. Virgil was more of a creative, Steve Jobs was a creative because they sat through and orchestrated each part of the process where as Kanye seemed to basically sign off on samples. I will say that although Ye is not necessarily a traditional sneaker designer or creative, he is however an extraordinary visionary. A visionary ability is to take something a lot of times things that already existed and exploited and propelling it to a different stratosphere with their passion, following, mindset, and self marketing abilities. He’s one of the greatest visionaries of our era

I came across the Asics EX89 and was immediately taken by the aesthetic and more so by the quality. This is a great shoe. The 550 is a nice shoe but I prefer the Asics as they come off as slightly more athletic-looking.

nice pick-ups and I so damn connect with you about the mental fatigue caused by the Jordan/SB hypebeasts who just can't appreciate Adidas, Asics, NBs etc.. BTW, I was planning to buy my first Lyte 3s and need an advice pls. I am confused which version of the Lyte 3s should I go for- the one with mesh on the toebox area or the one with the perforated leather..? Does one of them get an upper hand based on comfort, ease to maintain or more premium look in person..? Or they don't differ considerably from each other and I should chose purely based on the colorway.? Thanks in advance!!!
Hey mate!.. this is some serious consideration!.. it’s completely up to you bro, they’re great shoes regardless what materials you go for.. I just think mesh is better in the heat while leather is more durable and better suited to winter months! 👌
