Mine makes that noise too cold start then goes away when gets to operating temperature I was told by a shop it was normal these motors are a little noisy but they run forever

Thats a flowmaster 80 for the stock modell pontiac exhaust system. The 40 is a single in and out muffler. Not one in and two out.

2 co workers 5.0 both 2016 sewing machines can not here it in the cabin that is amazingly quiet what is normal ask a 100 people your truck runs and man has some power at the end of the day NOT BROKEN. Over service this amazing engine hell half a million is it a old school push rod engine hell it is better.

Being as it goes away when you give it alittle gas I don’t think it’s anything to worry about these 5.0s seem to all make some sort of noise

Yes, mine is the same, I only notice it at hot idle and when revved seems to go away. I can also hear in the cab at times. Thanks for the feedback. I only wish there was an explanation as to what causes this and if it is detrimental to the engine.

I have a 2017 f150 5.0 79k on it and I put a brand new engine in it at 72k from ford makes the same noise only when fully warmed up. I changed the motor due to rust on the cylinder walls from a dealer short block that was changed at 10k my previous motor also had the bbq tick. This new one doesn’t seem to have that just that same hot idle knock sometimes loud enough to hear in the cab in gear at idle

2018 started the gen 3 5.0. They have direct injection and I heard it normal for them to make noise.

I’m concerned too but I’ve seen a lot of videos that have a similar sound and I haven’t heard of many engines failing. I bought a warranty so I’ll keep it at least as long as the warranty lasts. Just keep an eye on your oil level. 2018-2020 can have oil consumption issues.

Yes for me it’s hard to hear this and think it’s normal but I complained to the dealer and they said it’s fine. My warranty is good for another five years so I’ll see how I feel when that is going to be up. I have the oil changed at the dealer every 3-4k just so it’s on the record.

@@MDRAG1986 i keep hearing it on mine after a hard drive especially one day i just put my phone in the engine bay and reved it up slowly the knock disappears at like 4k rpm but when it goes from 3k rpm to idle at like 650 it slows down and continues at idle like a rod knock, but i feel like it would throw the rod into space if it was a knock after what i did to the machine (2012 GT)

Mine has done that little knock at idle for 65k miles. They all do it from time to time. I think they advance the timing at idle to reduce emissions. It causes a light knock.

No sir, all I did was remove the old exhaust and bolt on this one. It is emissions safe, no codes.
