    9:25 This is not true. The capsule reached the ground but as the parachutes failed to deploy it reached the ground at 300 MPH. There was no destruct devise on the space craft to prevent landings outside Soviet Territories The US navy had plans to recover a Soyuz capsule in case an emergency landing was required at sea, the Soviet Army had planes to recover a US space craft should an emergency landing was required by NASA. Both sides had treaties in place to allow the return of their people to either side.

    As I am not able to gather primary sources all of my information is taken from books/web pages/ articles. Because these materials may have inaccuracies and sometimes there is only one source talking about a particular event this incorrect information may sometimes slip through my review process. As soviet space history is a much smaller area of research vs American it is much more difficult or sometimes impossible to verify the accuracy of certain pieces of information. Thank you for this info you have provided

    8:00 This was the purpose of the Sputnik 1 satellite. It had a carefully machined surface so engineers could actuality track it using the beeping radio signal. The Soviets even shared this information with the Americans and it was used in latter missions on both sides.

    The Redstone Rocket, the US's first ICBM and the rocket used to launch the first 2 Americans into space started out as the V-3 the Rocket Hitler intended to use to strike the United States.

    Fantastic video. Great thumbnail, good storyline and flow, not too fast but also not too slow. I legit have almost zero complaints. This video kept me interested for an entire 25 minutes, & that's hard to do on KZread nowadays. Great job DST!

    Neat vid. But for the space battles. You need to treat them like Naval battles but with a Y-axis, so you need to have a pretty long engagement range, and unironically have turrets act like CIWS. BD armory worked with Luna Multiplayer a LOT better than I expected.

    How were the SRBs able to maneuver like that? Were they trying to self correct? Did they even have that capabilty? Why did they not just spin out of control immediately? Or is it all just luck that they kept ascending more or less straight up? 🤔

  • @DSTStudios
    @DSTStudios2 ай бұрын

    The Srbs were front heavy so they were aerodynamically "Stable" By stable I don't mean like a plane stable, but stable enough to not do loops and turn around If your curious look up center of mass and pressure or "Plane CG"

    They did have thrust vectoring, and in a weird way, it doomed the shuttle. The o-ring hole was sealed by combustion products that solidified almost immediately on lift off, which is why everything seemed fine for awhile. As the shuttle hit the jet stream the solid boosters had to vector to keep the shuttle on course, which caused the boosters to flex and break the seal, exposing the leak again which acted like a torch to the external tank.

    7:16 If I ever go into the military and join the Air Force, I’ll make a new phrase similar to this one when I’m firing off missiles. “Bout’ to make em’ Cha Cha slide, 5 by 5.” Or “Fox (number), it’s bout’ to get funky.” I might even credit you lol.
