This will be an interesting pathway for Mercedes considering Lewis' superior race craft and race pace. Russell is good enough for the odd race win but for the long term Mercedes will need someone of the calibre of Lewis when he leaves. Anything else will be a missed opportunity.

Lawrence is a very smart businessman. He got involved in AML (his baby) and AMF1 (Lance's baby). I am not saying Lawrence does not enjoy AMF1, but he starts to realize that Lance is not under pressure to perform. Lance is a good driver, but - unlike Fernando - has a very hard time dealing with a car not well suited to his driving style. Fernando can drive any car quickly - pure talent. Honda wants a Japanese driver for 2026 (Yuki) and Fernando likes Lance's for his technical know-how. IF Lance stops next year, Carlos would be a great replacement in my opinion!!
