    Top pin goes in from the bottom up I do believe.also I think there is a size difference in the top and bottom pins, the bottom pin goes in pointed down. I think I recall that being correct from a mechanic on You Tube. I'm enjoying your sense of humor as you work, good way to get it done ;)

    That intake is 3500 to 7500 RPM. Not great on the 304...unless you want a high RPM screamer. I'd try to get either a Performer for it or an RPM Air Gap. As for the trans, you can take a T5 from a Mustang (88-93) and put that in. Should bolt right up to the bellhousing. Just make sure it's a world class unit from a V8 Mustang. For the clutch, use something like a 79 Jeep CJ5. That will get you the right one.

    4.10 gears mini spool ??? Used 4.10s around $10 or less and $50 - $60 for a mini spool !! Change those gears you'll drop half a second off and be more consistent !!! You can dial it into the hundreds like 14.28 !!! Better chance of winning doing that !!! Your selling yourself short by NOT dialing into the hundreds !!!!

I raced at Island many years ago do they still have that very short shutdown after the quarter ??? A small suggestion to put a straight bar behind the seats in case of seat bolt failure !! When you put a dial in on it take it to the hundreds !!! Instead of 14.2 go to 14.26 right to that hundreds digits when you dial it !!!! The way your doing it is handicapping yourself !!!! It takes years of practice to run with the big dawgs. Those guys know their car inside and out - what it'll run in summer heat or cool fall air. And definitely know how to play the game. Most guys dial in about 2-4 tenths slower than what their car is capable of so they have something at the top end if you tree them - as you're VERY good at doing! 😯

    What were your shift points you were using? Were you using all 3 gears or were you crossing the finish line in 2nd? What RPM does that thing stop pulling at, it should still be pulling to 6,500 and start nosing over shortly after that? When you get used to the sound of the exhaust you'll know where it's telling you to shift. But until then keep one eye on the tach or get a shift light, consistency is the name of the bracket racing game. If you want to use all three gears, do some rpm/mph calculations with different gear ratios to see where you will be close to the top of your RPM max at 100 mph in 3rd gear. A set of 4.56 rear gear might get you there? You should be able to shave off a few tenths to with more gear too. Unless you plan on upgrading the 307 the way we talked about? If so you'll have about 50 more lb ft of torque and 50 more HP at the crank on tap that would max the HP at 6,400 rpm with the head flow of those heads. The bigger the option you choose the more potential you'll have.😎👍

  • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
    @itseithergonnaworkoritaint78524 күн бұрын

    Ok, so I rewatched it and your helmet was an issue so you had to try to go slower. Would of been cool if you explained your shift points and why you used all three gears to slow her down. Can't wait till next time with a better helmet to see what that puppy can do.😎👍

  • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
    @hatchsrecreationalengineer19974 күн бұрын

    Hey Derek! So I still short shift 1st at 5k because the car stops pulling over that rpm in that gear? Still need to figure that issue at. Second gear pulls like a freight train and I take her up to 6500 rpm before I shift. In our efforts to ensure a 14 or slower pass I was shifting second around 6200. The engine runs great and sounds insane at high rpm. Man it’s so much fun. We are already considering putting in 4:56 gears and going back. Maybe the lack of low end torque and high stall speed of the converter is why it leaves so soft? Either way the car gets a little bit faster every time we have had it out so I can’t wait to see what it will do next time. Also I ordered a proper helmet lol

  • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
    @itseithergonnaworkoritaint78524 күн бұрын

    @@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 Wow, that's weird it won't let her rev more than 5k in first gear.🤔 Maybe ask your transmission guru guy if he has any ideas why it won't. If I remember correctly you just have the th350 that came with the 307 in the 70, not the race transmission? A shift kit might help but not sure if it would solve the 1st gear issue? Other than that transmission issue she looks like she's running great. That first gear issue is probably costing you a couple of tenths? A friend told me that Motor Trend on demand did an episode where Frieburger and Steve D put 10 foot header collector extensions on an engine and it still made 10 HP more than without extensions. They finally trimmed them down to about 18" and that was the ticket where they made 20 HP more than open headers. So what you did should still be better than open headers. Sorry I can't offer any advice for the 304 AMC engine but if it was a 360 or 401 AMC I could share some interesting stroker upgrade ideas and cylinder head options on these 2 though.

    @@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 Oh and the higher stall speed is supposed to help off the line acceleration, that's why they make them. A 4.56 would help lower your 60 ft times if you maintain traction. Faster 60 ft times will always show up in the ETs.😎👍
