There is so much you can do with the Internet and I think we should continue doing so, especially when sharing experiences. But, there are moments that you could go an do things without the Internet. For instance: my dream is to live on an island, make a daily walk to a row of dunes and sit there for a couple of hours. Just sit, look around and listen to the wind, sea and the animals around me. I could to that online, but that is not the real thing. You can watch a video and hear sounds, even in surround if you want to, but the feel is completely different. I have a tiny library built up of books about islands. When I go offline I dive in to those books, or I invite my best friend (my Jack Russel called Stitch) to make a walk with me on the island nearby. That former island has been surrounded by land now (It is called Schokland) so it is convenient we can drive there. There are no dunes, but there are two towers at the mouth of the former harbour. I have climbed those for many times just to be there, stand on top, enjoying the air, the surroundings, the wind, the birds. While Stitch loves to stay below to sniff around. What I am saying: we all should do this more. Go out with friends, or dogs. Sit together, talk, drink, walk, hike, climb, swim. Do it together, or sometimes do it alone when needed. It will completely recharge your mind. Sharing this by video with you: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHuAmpuklJi5j7Q.html Curious if you can spot the @MotionVFX effect I used in this video.

Alex and I have had a similar conversation in the past. It reminded me of a T.S. Eliot Essay titled Tradition and the Individual Talent. Eliot contemplates the importance of art history/tradition that comes before you and how understanding it helps an artist reach their potential. Certainly worth a read. I will leave you with a quote from the essay. "No poet, no artist of any art, has his complete meaning alone. His significance, his appreciation is the appreciation of his relation to the dead poets and artists."

"Being prepared" reminds me of the recent Roald Dahl Netflix episodes that came out and how before he began writing, he would have everything setup so he wouldn't have to get up during this the process and get pulled away from his work. He had his tea and other writing instruments as backup. The part that came to mind for me about him being prepared however was how he even had his chocolates next to him, which was emphasized. He accepted that he would've given in and prioritized not getting up from his writing process over a small health concern and the possibility (or likelihood) of falling for that temptation.

We appreciate the questions. We use three Flip Video Ultra II cameras (the standard def 4GB model). We mostly use natural light but for podcasts we record later in the day we’ll turn on a daylight balanced LED light with a softbox on it. Alex handles the editing and post on the episodes, and I believe he does some very slight color adjustments if needed and he may add a little bit of digital noise to enhance the lo-fi standard def vibe. But nothing heavy. Glad you like the look! We definitely thought it through. -M

Owning the means of production is something I feel that is the biggest downside of any hourly/salaried worker. What the contracting (artists, influencer, etc.) space has come to in recent years feels to me to be the break of the turn in how the workplace will function for future generations. If independent producers are able to own more capital (and in turn a larger/whole portion of their work and profit), I sincerely hope that creates a space that invites more workers to follow the same. Seems to me that since a mass of our pop. lives nearly paycheck to paycheck, I think something has to change in that work culture. It won't last as is. hopefully. Great episode!
@StudioSessionsPod9 ай бұрын
Adding to that, I believe the key is for artists/creatives/independent producers to make the conversation in any collaboration about the value that's being created as opposed to the time + materials needed to execute. So often we're reduced to a commodity when each of us has expertise and perspective that makes what we do, what we make so much more valuable. We can't trade time for money, we can't price our work based on time & materials - we have to better understand the results our work gets and the value of those results. -M
