    There's a class-action lawsuit against the 2016-2019 Chevy Volts, because of the unavailability of replacement parts for critical systems in the Volt. When GM stopped making the Volt, they also stopped making sufficient replacement parts for it. My daughter has a 2016 Volt that has been parked for over 6 months, waiting for a replacement control module that may never arrive. She had to go ahead and buy a different car. It's a shame that GM is abandoning their customers like that.

    Rather like cycling into a strong wind and then turning round and heading back, high winds are not a zero gain. To get the same result on a windy day means they are doing something. Perhaps experiment with teh locations too. Were they too close to the trailing edge, hence not allowing vortex to form, or is that the recommended location?

    How can Tucson be more reliable? I absolutely have no doubts that Hyundai is generous in offering great features and Honda, Toyota are very conservative that way. BUT The hybrid battery does not have a cooling system, there is alternator and belts and gears. Honda and Toyota have no gears, no belts and no alternators. They have more sophisticated hybrid system. and the AWD motor in toyota, Tucson has so many mechanical parts that can go wrong, and they do. let it age a little and we will see.

  • @edsgarage001
    @edsgarage001Күн бұрын

    Hey thanks for your comment, but I need to correct you a bit. First, the Tucson doesn't have an alternator... That's a motor/generator. Second, while the CRV doesn't have gears, it does have a cvt transmission, which to be completely frank, isn't more reliable. As a matter of fact, the cvt transmission in many vehicles has been utter trash (Google cvt class action). Plus it's a LOT noisier. Most car enthusiasts would take a good ol fashion auto transmission over a cvt any day. The hybrid battery does indeed have a cooling system, it's forced air cooled, the vents are under the rear seat. This is the same in the CRV. Hybrid batteries generally outlast the vehicle, and hyundai is no exception there. Saying that Honda and Toyota have more sophisticated system is short sighted. Did you know that the Rav 4 rear motor overheats when you're only mildly stuck in snow? Hyundais hybrids have been around in some form since about 2012, and they've always been reliable.

  • @sansin6250
    @sansin6250Күн бұрын

    In snow belt, the Toyota RAV4 AWD is of little use. I have been in a Tucson PHEV driving on 3-4 inch snow with Michelin CrossClimate tires. It was more stable than my Forester and the AWD performance was nothing short of my Forester. The vehicle gave a lot of confidence with its snow handling capabilities. The only thing holding me back from getting a Tucson hybrid is the lack of a spare tire, or the space to hold a spare.

    @@edsgarage001 Honda and Toyota hybrids DO NOT have a cvt. They are marketed as Ecvt but are in fact planetary gear set with electric motor on Toyota and Honda uses Electric motor transaxle with a high and low speed clutch lockup. Nothing in common with a cvt at all and far simpler and more reliable than a standard transmission or a belt/cone cvt. Also Honda wins on trade/resale value. Considering the engine and transmission issues Hyundai kia has had as a brand I don't expect that to change soon.

  • @edsgarage001

  • @edsgarage001
    @edsgarage001Күн бұрын

    @paulclancy1831.. fair enough... But it's still incredibly noisy. As for the Tucson's engine, it's a 1.6L that's changed a bit over time, but has a very good reliability track record. Resale value on the Tucson is actually quite good, but it also starts out nearly $6000 less expensive then the Honda, despite being better equipped 🤷

    Own a 2022 Luxury hybrid tucson , 46k km till now. Piano black and touch buttons- Dirt is an annoying issue. Scratch- I used screen protectors for the entire touch controls and fly by wire buttons. On Ave 6.5l/100km during the summers and 7 to 8 l/100km bit of mixed highway and city driving. with Toronto GTA roads and highways , well the hybrid system is a blessing. Paddle shift never bothered to use them. Cruise control is great during long drives, forward collision warning. One issue i faced is during highway driving any object getting close to drivers side rear( only left side) automatically engages brakes and veers car away -annoying though.

I was shocked the other day when I got in and started my 2023 Elantra and a notice onscreen alerted me to a low key fob battery. What? It's only a year and a half old. I've owned Hyundai's since 1995 and never heard of such a thing. I never even considered that...never even knew that even happens. I've put over 200,000 miles on most of my cars and never had any issues such as this. My spare Hyundai is a 2013...same fob same battery. Even my other 11 year old Hyundai (165,000 miles)...no problem. This is something I've never heard of before. Weird. I'm so old school...🤣 Automatic Breaking if you get too close? No way brother. Lane adjustments? Are you kidding? No car key? Push button start...hate that. After a year and a half I'm still not used to it and constantly leave the car running. Yea, yea, I know. I'm too old. But I miss the simpler times. These days making things simple makes them more difficult (and us lazy). Then again, I don't have a smartphone either. Ok...I'm done😆

    Thanks for the input! My Mom didn't want the autonomous braking on either, but I convinced her to leave it turned on. Well thankfully we did, because a few months after purchasing her vehicle she was looking in her side view mirror when somebody stepped out in front of her car, and the car slammed on the brakes and possibly saved that person's life. The autonomous emergency braking is something you'll never need until you do, and then you'll be thankful you had it.

    More accurate to say the straight 5 is a member of the Atlas engine family. The Vortec moniker has been applied multiple GM engine architectures including the Atlas, small block, big block, and a couple others. Thank you for the video. Your Android Auto Screen actually looks like the one in my new 2024 Nissan Kicks. My question is how do you exit Android Auto? You didn't tell us. There is no longer an "exit" button in the settings like all the other videos I have watched. I am exiting incorrectly because when I restart the car I get a prompt on the screen saying "Android Auto unexpectedly shut off. Would you like to reconnect?" Am I missing something?

    Thx for the comment. Go through the icons, see if one says "Nissan"... Tap it. On hyundais, it'll show a Hyundai icon that takes you back to the Hyundai home screen

    Fantastic video Ed. Thanks!! I bought a new SD card to use in case something went wrong with the update process while you are in the car. I figured at least I could put the old SD card back in and still have full functionality while I drove to the Hyundai dealer to tell him what I thought of Hyundai's update process. :))

    My IONIQ 5 is almost never charged at anything other than 2.5 kW cos I'm retired and dont do many miles and my ICCU failed after 2 years so it would only charge on DC. So its not always a result of high power charging.

  • @edsgarage001
    @edsgarage001Күн бұрын

    To be fair, I never said it was only and always due to faster charging. Sorry to hear you had issues with yours.

    @@edsgarage001 Also as an aside, I used to have condensation on the inside of the windscreen after overnight charging which has now ceased following the replacement of the ICCU. It is my belief that the original ICCU leaked slightly when in use and that it was coolant which was on the windscreen. Hyundai claim that coolant leaks on ICCUs was a problem limited to South Korean vehicles - I think this is not the case.

    If it was coolant, you'd definitely smell it. Coolant has a very strong sweet smell. It's also a pain to clean it off of a windshield as it's actually a bit oily

    Yeah 😕 Only newly redesigned vehicles are getting wireless in every trim. So, the new Kona, the new Santa Fe and the new Sonata

    If someone is driving behind you this 'bar' is in the heigt of the headligts of this car behind you.

  • @edsgarage001

    No it isn't.... At least, it wasn't for me. You can raise and lower the driver's seat. But even still, if it blocks out the headlights of the car behind you, that would be great! Less annoying headlights in your eyes
