  Watched the show again recently and realised that at the end of it he went to meet Wei Wuxian to mend the broken bond but Wei Wuxian drew a line right in front of him instead. So he withdrew his intention with a slight smile and disappointment. Nobody really understood him after all....

  Which is sad and strange. I expected a bit more understanding from Wei Wuxian at least. I get no one likes being manipulated and used as a pown, but motives can make a difference, I believe. If only all of them try to understand where Nie Huaisang was coming from, all 4 of them could’ve been friends again.

  2:21 Huaisang may not have wanted to lead, because he knew that leading meant that his brother would have been dead or at least accepted that he was soon to die, and Huaisang wanted him to find a way to live; and then after Mingjue's death, he had to assume the mask of the "head-shaker," making people think he was incompetent in order to enact his revenge. BUT this moment, as well as his brief appearance in the final episode where he seems much more assured in his own skin now that he has his revenge, show that Huaisang is more than capable of being a competent, shrewd, commanding, and powerful leader.

  ALL OF THE PEOPLE KNOW THAT NHS WAS INNOCENT BOY, and I hate JGY for his obsession. I know JGY was innocent too and the condition make him change, but he change too much and crazy for getting more power, he hate his father but he just being like his father. His father got crazy for women and he got crazy for power. I can't even imagine how much patience NHS has to hide himself wait for his plan to be successful.

  The thing about Xue Yang’s character is that he’s written so beautifully and fledged out masterfully. And the love story between him and Xue yang is very tragic, you can tell how they felt towards each other for the past 3 years but Xue Yang was so broken that his mistakes eventually caught up with him. He never realized he had something to lose until he lost who he cane to love afterwards all he wanted was to have him back but he realized his mistakes and it just broke what was already broken. It’s sad because if they had just talked things out in the first place maybe something could have changed in those three years but Xue Yang just couldn’t tell him. Also adding the tragic case of Song Lans love for XianCheng which was clearly never explored by the two after the incident with the eyes, it’s truly tragic Song Lan never got the chance to admit his love before XianChengs heart was not only given to someone else but taken from the world infront of his eyes. And in the end all that remained of him went with his best friend while his love who broke his heart most likely rotted away in an unmarked grave never to meet even in spirit again. Truly these three are such tragic characters and their relationships tragic. Their story is so compelling as a tragedy and written so vibrantly and I feel that is the reason why people enjoyed this side story and these characters.

  Err.... Xingchen never see Xue Yang that way. His love for Xue Yang is those of "care". Like brothers he was taking care of. Like Yanli taking care of Wei Wuxian. His love for Song Lan is different, which is why he gave Song Lan his eyes and left, which is why he could still bear it and live until Xue Yang told him that he killed Song Lan with his own sword. He couldn't live with the thought of he had killed the person he love. The reason his soul was completely shattered.

  @@breezy3392 Not erase but I mean perhaps neither one of them would be dead. Or in some kind of twisted way (not likely but just example) turn over a new leaf. Either way it could have prevented the suicide and death of the two.

  Huaisang was never a fighter. That’s the best thing about his character. He is not a fighter and yet he wins in the end. Because despite the fact that he hated using the saber and preferred arts over leading, he had a keen and perceptive mind. He was an observer, and that’s why he succeeded with his plans. A mind like his is one of a strategist who carefully plans out his cards before making his move. He is admirable in a sense that is not of physical strength, but one of mental strength. What he lacks in body, he makes up for in mind. He managed to get to the bottom of his brother’s case, and managed to clear his best friend’s name(unintentionally or intentionally) all at once. He cares a lot for the people that matter to him, and despite being soft-hearted, he will not hesitate to bring down those in the wrong.
