One of the things i find interesting is that Xue Yang refused to admit that he cared about Xianchen, because that dude is so emotionally fucked up he didnt realize what he felt for Xingchen was care. XY is brilliantly written. Depressing ass hell tho. The fact that XY used to be a normal, trusting child just shows how the world can fuck someone up.

What an interisting concept of a villain basically being offered a chance for redemption and turning everything against the person who offered to care for him no matter who he is. What a good storyline.

Xingchen and xueyang.. Its so hard choosing which side to be on their both awesome

The thing about Xue Yang’s character is that he’s written so beautifully and fledged out masterfully. And the love story between him and Xue yang is very tragic, you can tell how they felt towards each other for the past 3 years but Xue Yang was so broken that his mistakes eventually caught up with him. He never realized he had something to lose until he lost who he cane to love afterwards all he wanted was to have him back but he realized his mistakes and it just broke what was already broken. It’s sad because if they had just talked things out in the first place maybe something could have changed in those three years but Xue Yang just couldn’t tell him. Also adding the tragic case of Song Lans love for XianCheng which was clearly never explored by the two after the incident with the eyes, it’s truly tragic Song Lan never got the chance to admit his love before XianChengs heart was not only given to someone else but taken from the world infront of his eyes. And in the end all that remained of him went with his best friend while his love who broke his heart most likely rotted away in an unmarked grave never to meet even in spirit again. Truly these three are such tragic characters and their relationships tragic. Their story is so compelling as a tragedy and written so vibrantly and I feel that is the reason why people enjoyed this side story and these characters.

Err.... Xingchen never see Xue Yang that way. His love for Xue Yang is those of "care". Like brothers he was taking care of. Like Yanli taking care of Wei Wuxian. His love for Song Lan is different, which is why he gave Song Lan his eyes and left, which is why he could still bear it and live until Xue Yang told him that he killed Song Lan with his own sword. He couldn't live with the thought of he had killed the person he love. The reason his soul was completely shattered.

@@breezy3392 Not erase but I mean perhaps neither one of them would be dead. Or in some kind of twisted way (not likely but just example) turn over a new leaf. Either way it could have prevented the suicide and death of the two.

I read the novel before I watched the show and although Xue Yang's story was sad, the way it was presented, as him thinking 50 lives aren't enough to amount to one finger, I couldn't feel any sympathy for him. Seeing ppl freaking out in the comment section and being like "I love him" really puts into perspective why serial killers have fanbases

Exactly. And although I think his background is sad, 50 lives over a finger? I think the writer doesn't give him a bad enough of a background to avoid people liking him too much. And yet these fans aren't that much different from those rabid Cameron Herrin's fans who demanded him to be released, because he's handsome. To sympathize that his background causes him to be mentally sick is okay but to ship him with the person he tortured is another story. Poor Xingchen's soul is shattered and doesn't even want to be alive nor dead. He wanted to be destroyed and gone.
