Hi! I’m Shelley and thanks for taking a look at my little channel. I am a bit obsessed with sewing since it became my primary hobby in Feb 2023 but I am also a bit of a hobby collector so I make junk journals, paint water colour and acrylic and have recently started crochet! I hope you enjoy watching me talk about things I’ve made and done. I usually post on a Monday (as it’s my day off) so I try to be consistent, you may also get the odd one in between however if I’m super excited about something!
I’ve always taken inspiration from the other wonderful sewing and junk journal KZreadrs so wanted to also see if I can inspire or help someone with what I do and make as well!

Real sunshine vibes……..a new holiday dress, great vlog btw xxxxxx
@@happydogshandmade4680 thank you! ☺️
I love how your projects turned out. You should adjust the neckline. The neckline is too wide for you. The length should be shortened by half an inch and it will stay on your shoulders and still go over your head.
@@bombcherryjuice2000 I agree it could do with an adjustment at the neck, next time I make it I will take your advice and give that a go! Thank you ☺️
Oh i hadnt looked at all the images of others making this! I dont think they increased armhole opening as the sizes got bigger on the pattern! I can see the larger sizes are not sitting correctly. It has an invisible dropped shoulder because its T shape. So larger sizes as most in that category, I am now, also have larger busts and some back or under arm girth. You cant just increase pattern all around outside. Id try redrawing under arm seam at least an inch! You can always pin fit or baste and make smaller! The no dart looks have an invisibie dart! Its how it falls. Same as A line dresses with no bust darts, its the room to flow into soft gathers that is the darts. You cant compare to a no bust size 8..which I was in my 20s! Now im 1X and had two 10 lb kids and I'm 69! Massive learning on my life long sewing to accommodate the mum tum and a bust!
@@retroredo9850 absolutely, our bodies change a lot and we have to learn how to adjust the patterns to fit us, thank you for the advice I will certainly think of this next time I make it! ☺️
I like this pattern! I was taught because im really old to measure all my patterns in between seam lines and compare to my own adding 2 inches ease!
@@retroredo9850 that’s a good tip! Thank you ☺️
The fibre mood skirt looks lovely and the green stripe is fab. You did make me laugh with the circus tent but I actually think it looks really wearable!
@@alwaysinthecraftroom thanks! I still haven’t made the final version, don’t know why I’m procrastinating although it could be the idea of doing a zip 😅 I do like the stripy red skirt but I rushed hemming the bottom so need to fix that first 😁
Often the bust and hip measurements are often printed on the tissue pattern pieces rather than the back of the envelope. Hope this helps in future.
@@ruthlanwarne8978 thank you yes it helps I’ll be looking out for that!
Lovely dresses. Hope your feeling better 💐
@@nicky-sewsnip5903 thank you ☺️
I usually love the fabric, but if I get one that’s not my favorite, I make a new pattern too. I usually end up loving it! Great quality fabrics feel so nice to wear. I also got the grey last month. I got the blue this month.
@@hoppaheedahoe2581 it does feel lovely doesn’t it I agree! I think some of these are pushing me out of my comfort zone but in some respects I like that as it’s getting me to try new things 😊
Such lovely makes well done!
@@karenrafferty8364 thank you ☺️
I love the flowers Shelly, what a great piece to save from your dressing gown!
@@alwaysinthecraftroom thanks! I’m glad I got to use them I had that dressing gown for probably 20 years 🤣
@@TheWillowtreeGreen I’m like that, yes I’ve had my money’s worth… but I’m not throwing away good trim! 😂
Oh thanks for reminding me I have the Bardon pattern and I have been meaning to make it for ages, I just have way too many patterns 😅 love the version you are wearing by the way! Also hope you are feeling better by now x
@@kadycrea it’s one of my favourite patterns, very simple but also so useful!
Yes! It does feel like free fabric 😂
🤣glad it’s not just me!
I really like this style of vlog! Thanks for clabbering the bits together. It seemed like a fabulous weekend.
Oh it was fantastic, zero housework and 90% sewing a perfect weekend 😂
Love the green and red. Inspired to get sewing 😊
Thank you, my kids sometimes suggest I might have a bit of colour blindness but I love contrast 😂
It’s definitely fruit salad!
😁 haha I couldn’t unsee the bananas after!
Oooo … that pattern Co. is new to me so I’ll enjoy checking them out … thanks
The top looks lovely the instruction are a bit lacking, I might cover it in more detail in my next video as I’m making another and it’s not just me not reading something properly (which I obviously do 😂) I do think it’s worth trying to figure it out for this though!
Very innovative!
Thank you 😄
Comment no.2 … my machine sometimes gets picky with thread other than Gutterman so l feel I’ve won the battle by using it in the bobbin only … just to use the thread … hate throwing stuff away
I’m the same it’s such a waste and it makes no sense to me at all as they look identical!
I think the bright colours look fabulous on you! As an aside, I’ve dyed fabric in the past and even though I followed the instructions to the letter it did still turn out patchy … it was a solid so maybe slight patches won’t show on your ‘patchy’ sort of fabric print … also polyester thread won’t dye well … good luck!
Thank you, I did reconsider dying it for this reason actually, I wonder if I might like it as a skirt more so may take off the bodice and leave the bright fabric as a skirt, watch this space! 😂
It’s so funny that the photos I inserted seem to have moved from where I put them but the words stayed right 😂 so apologies for any confusion
The pj’s look great. Your top and the fabric look great together. I’ve got this cold, it’s my energy levels that are suffering as well
Thank you! It awful isn’t it, I just want it gone now!
@@TheWillowtreeGreen yes me too
Love your pj's , and top is gorgeous. Thank you😊
Thank you ☺️
Cute top. Nice work. Man I hate trying to put together down loadable patterns. I can't make heads or tails of them.
With you on that! sticking together pdf patterns is a pain!
I like the top that you made. And the fabric is beautiful ❤
Thank you, the Lily pattern really appealed to me but it does have some issues that said I’m currently making another 😄
Good for you. Did you manage to make a skirt from the rest of the fabric?
@@brigitteusher5277 yes I did! I’ve actually made a dress, I created a tank top from an old tshirt and attached the remaining fabric to that and I tried the lily top over the tank dress with a belt and it still works as a coord set but now I also have another dress! I was thinking I’m more likely to wear a dress than a skirt😁
@@TheWillowtreeGreen it's brilliant what you do with the T shirts and attaching fabric to make another top. I think I might try that.
Great ideas!
Thank you 😊

Love your video. This popped into my feed unexpectedly, and I'm so glad I took a look! Your eye for color blocking is terrific. I LOVE the pink velour & patterned viscose combination -- I never would have thought to put together those fabrics but you were exactly right, they look perfect. I'll watch for more videos. You're doing great!
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it! I love that pink velour one so much :)
Ypur color blocking is sew perfect thanks for posting your videos up You have inspired me to have a go at up liading my own videos to you tube look forward to your next one all the very best to you in the future xx
Thank you and I'm so glad I inspired you to upload too! I will watch out for your videos, it is definitely weird talking to yourself but it does seem to be getting easier haha! the editing part was also confusing at first but I am quite enjoying it now :). I recommend using the free version of CapCut to edit, good luck!
Looks good.
Thank you!
Great video Thanks for sharing. Suggestion for first top....cut open sides and add in panels- further colour blocking
Thank you! That’s a good idea! 😊
I just received my box too & got the same colourway as you 😀 I absolutely love this month’s box 🤩 x
I shall be watching closely to see what you make!
@@TheWillowtreeGreen my first thought was either a summer dress or co-ord set but I saw someone else suggest Mave skirt & it’s now got me thinking 🤔 😀
Thank you. That was fun. Lovely fabric😊
@@lovesredsews I was thinking coord set!
@@bridgetwhite5547 thank you ☺️
Fun video! As for that cute top that’s too small, open the sides and add a 1” - 2” wide strip of fabric by the length of the cuff to the hem. Could use one of the same fabrics or a strips of black fabric, sew it on each side, and you will have an enlarged top and even more color blocking!
Thank you, and what a fantastic idea! I will definitely look at this 😊
I have no idea what happened to my comment, but I watched your video, and I absolutely love your sewing area! I hope you get this message this time.
Thank you for watching! I love watching videos of other peoples areas so I thought why not and I think the hashtag was a great idea 😊
@@TheWillowtreeGreen Awe Thank you so much! Feel free to keep using it!🥰
The dress with the shirring is fabulous and looks so great on you.
Thank you so much! I have now got more shirring elastic so I can fish it off properly and wear it out 😊
New subscriber here, great video. I particularly liked the Atelier Brunette fabric, they all looked great. Take care x
Thank you! I really enjoy playing around putting things together as the result is sometimes great 😊
Fab makes 😊
Thanks! ☺️
You’re such a quick sewer! I also avoid back buttons because I did them once and they were so uncomfortable when I sat back in my office chair!
When I’m on a mission I do sew really quickly, it is causing a bit of an issue with my wardrobe bursting at the seams! 😂 I really don’t understand why anyone would want buttons on the back, designs still need to be comfortable!
lol my husband would take photos rather than video too 😂 I’ve had trouble with cheap thread too, I only buy Gutterman now but I always buy the longer length (I think 200 or 250 metres?) as it does work out cheaper, and a 100m spool never sees me through a whole project - probably because I have to unpick so much 😅
I’ve love gutterman thread, as I want to dye things in the future too I really need to look for cotton thread as the synthetic threads don’t dye at all. As to unpicking…making the shirred dress recently I tried it on to show my husband, and then realised one sleeve I’d sewn inside out! I can’t think of a single project where I haven’t had to unpick something 😅
Second winter is spot on 😂 I’ve seen the Bardon dress around and wondered about it, so it was great to hear you love it. That gauze is fabulous, I love the colours 😊 Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you ☺️ I felt like a bit of a stalker on your channel but you were keeping me company while I read a very boring document 😂
@@TheWillowtreeGreen ha ha, when I find someone new I watch everything too, you’ll be keeping me company for a bit 🤣
You sew so fast! It would take me 3 weeks to make that dress😂 I missed the Tissue holder episode from SoCarol.... excellent idea, and great for scraps, thanks ! RE the 90's elastic belt, I also pulled mine out and use it again , too funny.
I love my waist belts, no one can make me stop wearing them 😂
Great video, love the detail :)
Thank you ☺️ I’d quite like to do a proper sew along type thing but it’s a lot harder to set up than I realised! Maybe one day 😃
Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great hope you are better soon! The dresses are lovely and you look great in both that broderie is something else stunning. Every time I dust off my summer patterns the weather turns again it seems so I ordered a load of fleeces and a half zip sweater pattern instead now look at it 😂
Thank you ☺️ I know what you mean about the weather and picking plans! I have been wanting to make a cardigan for my daughter out of chunky knit fabric and I think now might be a good time for it so it’s ready for when the weather inevitably turns! I love making dresses though, must be my inner princess 😂
I have the same problem with cheap thread. My machine is a thread snob too.
Machines are fickle aren’t they 😂
Gorgeous dresses ❤ hope you feel better quickly
Thank you! I’m hoping so too 😊
Two lovely summer dresses - hope you get lots of wear out of them!
Thank you! Me too 😀
Lovely to see your sewing space Shelley. I’m going to check out the hashtag now, thanks for mentioning it.
Thank you ☺️ it’s messy but it works for me!
