Making the Boxy Top from Peppermint Magazine using a remnant and all the versions I have made

Hi Everyone and thanks for joining me today as I talk about my love of the *free Peppermint Magazine Boxy Top and colour blocking. I started sewing garments as pretty much my main hobby in February 2023 and spent my early months searching for cheap ways to get fabric and patterns and so most of my early favourites are free patterns made with remnants of fabric. I still like doing this and I think the Bardon Dress and this boxy top will stay favourites for me for a long time. I do now however have a large selection of big 4 patterns and have started to buy some indie patterns, the price is usually what delays me from buying them when they are most popular, I will wait for a sale!
Weirdly though I will spend money on gadgets (it's not weird I love techy stuff) and bought my overlocker very quickly into this new hobby. It’s a Singer S0105. I don’t recommend the thread I have as it’s too thick however it’s super fun so I do recommend finding a rainbow colour overlocker thread and I will be finding more when this is all gone

New set up today filming on my phone and using my iPad and making notes! I hope it was fun to watch and that you consider subscribing so you can find me again and give me a thumbs up. I would also love to hear from you and get your thoughts on this pattern and any other free ones you recommend?
Thanks for watching! (I hear Janelle from Rosary Apparel when I say that!)
Also quick note, it took me about 2 hours to edit the vlog (not counting the upload time) and get all the links so almost as long as it took me to make the shirt!

ive noticed that my videos are looking a little washed out, could be a colour issue from my phone to my MacBook so apologies if its a bit glary in places!

Thank you and I'm so glad I inspired you to upload too! I will watch out for your videos, it is definitely weird talking to yourself but it does seem to be getting easier haha! the editing part was also confusing at first but I am quite enjoying it now :). I recommend using the free version of CapCut to edit, good luck!

Fun video! As for that cute top that’s too small, open the sides and add a 1” - 2” wide strip of fabric by the length of the cuff to the hem. Could use one of the same fabrics or a strips of black fabric, sew it on each side, and you will have an enlarged top and even more color blocking!

You’re such a quick sewer! I also avoid back buttons because I did them once and they were so uncomfortable when I sat back in my office chair!

When I’m on a mission I do sew really quickly, it is causing a bit of an issue with my wardrobe bursting at the seams! 😂 I really don’t understand why anyone would want buttons on the back, designs still need to be comfortable!

Love your video. This popped into my feed unexpectedly, and I'm so glad I took a look! Your eye for color blocking is terrific. I LOVE the pink velour & patterned viscose combination -- I never would have thought to put together those fabrics but you were exactly right, they look perfect. I'll watch for more videos. You're doing great!
