    Hi Tigger, I am writing to take you up on your free offer to get a worm bin started. I do like all your videos on worms. I live in Rochester, NY - Just down the road from you. Yes I am a bit late to the Worm Game 2024 - I'm in my 70's and want to get started with some good soil in my backyard where I live - Lots of Sun Flowers for the bees. Will email you with more details about myself. Please Keep me on your list! PS - How do you keep your worms warm in the winters here in Western New York? Thank for your video Clips. Thanks, Larry

    I think this whole concern about greenhouse gasses is way overblown. If we lived in a dead place it would obviously be a problem...but we don't. We live in a place that systematically uses those gases for vegetation production. Mother nature takes up those gases and uses them to produce vigorous plant growth. All living plants use CO2 for plant growth. Same goes for our oceans and waterways. Nature adapts and brings it all into balance. We should be 100 fold more concerned about the chemical industry ruining our agriculture and food supply. They are really the ones that are throwing things out of balance and ruining the health of our soil, our food and our livestock and us humans too. Sure, we can blame the farmers for using these things, but, if they were banned, they'd have no choice but to comply. These long term broad leaf herbicides are destroying the life cycles of the otherwise perfect design of mother nature. That stuff just hangs around for years and perhaps even decades in the right conditions.

    I really like your channel! Stumbled across it today strictly by accident. Next time I'm in town seeing family. I hope to drop by and get a couple pounds of redwigglers from you. Where I live now worms are not native to the area. Strange huh! Well take care TW

    From my experience they do double in population but not biomass. Once they reach the optimal population for the space and amount of food waste to be processed they pretty well stop breeding. You get cleaner castings that finish quicker.

    Bro! My Indian Blues are driving me Fi;k!ng BANANAS! Indian blues look nothing like Eisenia so I am not sure how I got blues In My “Res Worm” I have a 10/1 ratio of Blue to Red. I love my little Eisenia Fatida, Andraiii, Vaneta. Also 5)3 Eisenia worm has a clitellum further down whereas the Indian blue’s clitellum begins at like the 13th segment, close to the head.

    i keep worms in a bucket tower. right now it's 6 high but each bucket only contains 1 1/2 gallons of bedding or so that they stack properly and keep everyone contained. i added bucket number 6 last summer when i was storing casings in my tote out in the garden shed and discovered wisps. by adding another bucket that would add another cycle to the length of time my worms processed and hopefully less livestock at sifting time. i started with 250 worms a little over 3 years ago. i have no idea how many i have now but it's a lot. i don't worry about overpopulation too much because the worms are so good at regulating their own population. i only feed my worms mature compost, about a quart of so per week and then the last feeding a week or so before harvest i will feed them a cup of cooked oatmeal sweetened with a disturbing amount of molasses, in addition to their weekly compost, to bait the worms up served in a wet coffee filter. i've taken over 300# of castings out in those 3 years i'm sure if i had more buckets and more worms i would have even more worms and castings. i harvest castings when my bucket tower has gained 5 lbs going along with your thinking about the bins not actually gaining any weight. the worms are consuming & excreting their bedding so it would only stand to reason that your bins would weigh more by adding bedding or food and removing worms or castings. 5# of weight in my worm bucket tower takes between 3 - 4 weeks to accumulate and seems to be the perfect time to harvest castings and search for baby worms.

    I sift my peat moss and wet it with rain water mixed with fish fertilizer. I add powdered limestone and composted leaf matter, the fungi and bacteria in leaves helps the peat moss break down to a food source. I then cover my bin with wet cardboard soaked in worm tea.

    I'm sorry, but I think this video makes worm farming seem very complicated like using water osmosis ect. I only use normal water left outside in a bucket for a few days. I use coco core at start of the bin plus food and bedding paper and carboard with no problems.

    Is there protection from getting those Asian jumping worms that are so bad. I wonder since they reproduce like crazy they make for faster sell and unsuspecting buyers may not know. Is there a way to know for sure there are none in the batch you get?

    They will be very large worms and will have a very pronounced and kind of milky-tan colored clitellum. And if you pick one up it will violently thrash around, and I mean violently thrash around. That's why they're called "jumpers".

    I just have a black tote you get at a big box store. I believe it’s 37 or so gallons. It is black and has a yellow top. Do you think this will work and should I keep the top on it? I’ve seen other video that say the red worms can get out. Should I drill holes in the top and add some screen? I bought some worms at Walmart so I could use them to go fishing. I can’t afford as many worms like use had. I would it would just take longer for them to reproduce. Also can I use corn meal vs. worm chow? Sorry about all the questions 😊

    1:00 I am that kind of guy. It’s uncle Jims worms. He makes you think you’re buying red wigglers. It’s all in the wording. Indian blues happens to do a mass exit when it rain due to the barometric pressure. I wondered why my worm were mass exiting my bin. After looking closely sure enough I had Indian blues. I won’t buy from uncle Jims anymore.

  • @jenniferhunter4074
    @jenniferhunter40745 ай бұрын

    Same here. I only went with Uncle Jim's because a gardening channel mentioned that name.. I think it's unethical to prey on people's ignorance the way that uncle jim's is doing. I bought a small little amount and I haven't had the problem that others have had. (I have an open bin in a temperate basement with a heating mat at the bottom. Eggshell cartons on top. It's pretty much the setup for baby plant seedlings.) I've only had one mass escape attempt and it was extenuating circumstances. Maybe that might help for your worms? I just wish the company had been honest. I was already creeped out with the idea of worms in my home. I don't understand how people can touch them with their bare hands or gloved hands. I can barely use a spoon. So I wish I had a beginner mode worm - a slow red one - vs, this meth head of a worm that moves so fast. (okay.. maybe it's the caffeine but it's decaf coffee. I just wish Uncle Jims had been honest.)

  • @LD-hy1ps
    @LD-hy1ps4 ай бұрын

    Same here. My first bin was an indoor bin from a "red mix" I bought from Jim's. The first time it thunder stormed, I guess the barometric pressure changed, because I awoke to find 100 of them dead on the carpet, because they climbed out the air holes. Complete waste of money, and I will never buy from him again or recommend anyone to him. I hope Urban Worm Company and Meme's Worms puts him out of business.

    Very different. Indians have a very pointy solid black head, clitellum is flat and they move like a sawszall. Maylasian Indian Blue. Reds have an orange tail and have stripes on their body and their clitellum is raised. Indians will try to escape if barametric pressure changes.

I've been binge'ing all the channels you mentioned in this video, and I respect them all. This video's title grabbed me, and I clicked. I like your delivery style, and will be checking out more of your content. I have, on a few occasions, half-heartedly, started raising Euopean Nightcrawlers. This time I'm going all in, and plan to raise Euros and red wigglers for all the different retail possibilities they will afford me, as well as for my own gardening. I have enough capital to hit the ground running, and am very excited about the whole affair. I sincerely hope your worm business is doing for you what you had hoped, and I'll now be monitoring your progress too.
