I've never been a fan of the "All straw hats have these three requirements". That is only a story teller thing. Tragic Backstory, characters just have that to make them engaging. Luffy does not care in the slightest about backstories. he falls asleep during them. Dream, ok yea that one works because its the character's reason for joining. Job, its important but not necessary. again, the only real requirement is, Luffy likes them.

Late to the party, but I want to add my two cents on the "Shanks losing his arm" topic. I've seen people running carelessly after their kids or dogs crossing the streets and almost getting hit by a car; because they've been so focused on saving their loved ones so they got unaware of potential dangers around them. They just didn't notice, I guess. Keeping this in mind, it makes a lot of sense for me that Shanks lost his arm, even if Oda originally didn't plan it like that and even though Shanks should have been "too strong" to be injured at all. Luffy is very dear to Shanks, and I bet the only thought Shanks had at this moment was "protect the child at all cost". You can tell by the way Shanks looks at and talks about Luffy that he has these "dad-like" feelings for him. c:
Just a theory: joyboy's power was the source of power for the ancient weapons to work and without it no ancient weapon can be used. We have seen how the giant robot awakened when luffy used gear 5. So ig that works for the ancient weapons too. However, vegapunk has now created MotherFlame which gave access to the WG to use it too without the need of joyboy's powers. Imu already used one to destroy a whole island just to makr sure sabo is dead which made the sea level rise again. But the real question now is how can you reduce the sea level? The only way to do so would be to bring up all those islands that are drowining above the sea. But how can you do that?? Does joyboy power allow him somehow to grab a whole island and bring it up? Or could his powers be so rediculous that he could control time and go back 800 years back before the sea rose by 200 meters?
Ok. To end every theory stating that joy boy is evil, the world government is hunting everyone who trying to figure out what happened in the void century. If the WG are the heroes of that war then why try so hard to hide it??! Also fun thing I thought of. Imu is related to Vivi or did something to Imu DNA that altered like Vivi family DNA is to control a weapon like Uranus. So why do we know the last weapon is most likely control by a giant beast also. Roger showed us this. He had a weird egg on his ship. That was the unhatched egg of the beast that pulls the last weapon. So yes all the 3 royal families that control weapons are altered humans. Actually fun thing about sea kings and fishmen. They are all altered beings that mated with other natural beings and that is why there is so many wacky types of creatures in the One Piece world. Because the tech they used altered DNA levels.
