Campervan Conversions - I convert panel vans into campervans or weekend vans. I like to include as much detail about the conversion process into my videos as possible. Converting a van is a great project and the purpose of these videos is to help anyone who is converting their own van. I also usually have vans for sale so if you are looking for a conversion please get in touch.

Have you decided to manufacture or custom make these? If so, I would be interested!
Hi, Yes I do make them for sale...a slightly different design with ply boards instead of the slatts....email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
Where did you get the insulation from mate
I got it off ebay "van floor insulation" should find it. Thanks.
@@dave-watson thanks mate appreciate it doing a van myself
How much carpet did you use? Thanks
If I remember correctly I got 10 meters at 2 meters wide. Thanks.
Beautiful work. I was wondering if when you make the bed into a couch, it looks like the seat extends to the side unsupported. Is the frame strong enough if someone sits on that unsupported end of the couch seat.
Thanks....I now have a MkII version which has ply boards instead of the slatts.
Hi Dave - love the bed and thanks for these great videos, they have been a source of inspiration! I am designing something very similar for my van conversion. I previously built a pull-out style bed in my last van but I found it was rather clunky, the piano-hinge style bed seems an awful lot simpler and easier to build. What specification of plywood would you recommend? There would be two people living in the van, so my biggest concern is that the hinge becomes over loaded and the screws tear the ply. Thanks!
Thanks....I used 12mm ply but you could use 18mm which will be solid.
Coming along nicely Dave - excellent job with the wiring meticulous as usual 👍🇦🇺
Thanks a lot....the van will come together real quick at this point.
I didn't realise you had a second channel. This conversion looks like great fun, and I'll be plowing through all this series!😁
Thanks....yes I have been converting vans for a while....the latest one is almost complete.
Great job Dave, I’m really enjoying your videos, they are very informative and interesting, you also explain things pretty well too, so to help us avoid mistakes along the way. I wonder if you have also seen this guy Eric, I will link his video in this comment for you. I love his bed layout too, I’m very tempted by his bed, and also love your bed too, food for thought for you ?? kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmuYr5aalrvPoZs.htmlsi=e1pU0NEnDlc3h6ks
Brilliant job, if I was to get 9ne of these and drive over, would you also fit it ? I’d be travelling from west Cumbria, if I was to get one, but I do quite like the thought of making it myself too
Yes I can make and fit....but I make them slightly differently now...The MKII. I have one in my latest build. I start making it about halfway through this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWyTxZWqf82rZqQ.html
Love it, I’d love to know the total cost for that layout, I really like that one
I have the costs somewhere but off the top of my head I think it was about 4.5K.
Great breakdown of costs, thank you
Thanks.
Great job, I’m seriously thinking of getting a vivaro, as my next van, I currently have a VW T4, that was already converted when we got it 7 years ago, but now I need a daily van / car / camper, one ring to rule them all kind of thing, really want to convert my own as I know what works and what doesn’t work for us now, can you sleep width ways in the back of the van ? I am 5ft 8” small and missus is 5ft, so I think as width ways bed would be better for us, then we can leave it down if we have the awning with us, or put the bed up and have the sofa if we are just vanning it
Thanks a lot....the vivaro is just over 5" wide and once you get insulation and panels on it would be a bit tight I think. But the R&R bed is a good solution 6" long and folds away real easy.
Hi Dave, Thanks for the very interesting video. I am very curious to all the electrics, it looks pretty complicated to me, how you know what goes where with the wiring? It starts to look very good man, compliments on that for sure! You do a very inspiring job mate, keep those vids coming!!!
Thanks....yes the wiring takes some planning and sticking to the instructions that come with the various elements. The van is really starting to take shape and should be done in a few more days.
Hi from central Otago southern new Zealand 👋 I'm glad you kept track of the wiring 😂 electricity and I have an understanding, I don't muck around with wires and it doesn't take my hand off😂 I don't have electricity in my tiny house and it's inconvenient occasionally especially with light in mid winter, but it's a minor inconvenience. I actually have a solar panel and a inverter generator but they're still packed away, I've never used them once. 😂 I use a headtorch for light and it does the job but I don't have anyone else in here either, so it's fine for me. I was impressed with the van wiring though, very nice job, tidy and convenient. Great video 👍👋
Thanks a lot.....I had to study quite a bit to gain knowledge of how to do the 12v wiring....but you need a good plan and just take one element at a time.
Hya Dave. I really am enjoying this series on your van conversion. The only thing that causes me concern is those breakers. There are many other youtube channels which have pointed out the dodgy nature of that particular breaker type - them being a really bad fire risk. In my system I used heavy duty mega fuses and manual switch breakers.
Yes I looked at some of them videos....I always test the breakers to make sure that they are cutting off the current and so far so good....never had a problem with them. Thanks.
🇨🇦🙋♀️
Thanks.
What a brilliant job 👏 thank you Dave ❤
Thanks Carol....the van will be complete soon and I think it's going to look real good.
G’day Dave, always look forward to the next video, you explain everything so clearly & simply 👍 I’m building a Renault Trafic High roof LWB in Australia, hopefully one day you might do a H2 L2, I’d be glued to the screen 😆. Because we’re in Australia I can get away with less insulation, thus creating a little more room and have been able to successfully fit a good sized bed across the back into the side window panels. Anyway keep up the fantastic videos, you are a legend. Cheers.
Many thanks....I'd like to try a H2.....good luck with your build.
Amazing, so helpful! could you tell me what youve used to clip the back of the seat in place?
Hi, There are a couple of pegs (bolts) through the sliding leg and into the frame leg and that keeps it in place when driving.
👋hi from southern new Zealand, the current home of winter 🥶 where its minus 7 Celsius and everyone has frozen water pipes 😅 i see miserable weather is on form in England as much as it is here , we are having hard frosts and also solid frozen ground so i can't do any work on the job i have been doing because i cant dig anything 😂 im supposed to be building a small honey shed to store honey boxes and have a tiny beekeeping work area under cover but now I'm stuck because ive done all the tidying up i can do waiting for the ice weather to break so im catching up on KZread videos 😂 joy of being self employed 👍 cabinetry is looking amazing, nice work 👋
Thanks a lot....the weather here has been bad so far this summer....loads of rain....hopefully it will change soon.
Nice video Derek. Your ion by the way spent a while at least in Cornwall (Hawkins Motors) where salt isnt used as much as other parts of the UK. Citroen czeros and Peugeot ions from around the UK back in 2012-13, when it was harder to sell an EV, were sent down to Hawkins who sold loads of them.
Thanks.
Nice vid, as always. The amount of precision is absolutely great. i love how you put it all together. Looks very promising to me!!! Looking forward to day 13!!!
Thanks a lot...I'm real pleased with how the cabinets are coming together....I'll get them in the van next time.
Great video as always 😎
Thanks a lot
Brilliant Dave as usual ❤
Many thanks Carol.
Cannot wait to see the finished product 👍
Thanks a lot...it's looking good.
Good morning, Dave. Thank you for the video this Sunday morning. 🇨🇦🙋♀️
My pleasure....the van is really coming along.
What a good video. A good clear explanation, and drawings too.
Thanks a lot.
Nice work Dave. Can I ask where do you source your timber and sheet materials?
Thanks a lot.....I get all of the wood and sheets from Wickes in the UK.
@@dave-watson Thank you so much for your reply. I will have a look at them as I'm not happy with B&Q quality.
What is the length of the slide? You said “80 mil” … I think that’s the width? Thanks so much for the excellent design & how-to instructions!
Hi....I was using 800mm but I changed them to 750mm....which makes the seat a little more shallow.
@@dave-watson thanks so much for the quick response 😀
800
Hi dave have you got a email address i could contact you on please for possible some work? Thanks
Great job Dave.
Thanks a lot.
Fab stuff as ever, Dave 👍
Thanks a lot.
As always Dave, very well explained. You're making me want to do this all over again haha. I can't wait to see the finished product. I bet it's sold before yo finish it, great work.
Many thanks.
That is some serious craftsmanship we see here. Well done!!! Hats off!!!
Many thanks....the van is coming along real good.
Another very interesting video Dave, thanks for sharing
My pleasure...thanks for watching.

Thanks a lot.
Great video as always 😎
Many thanks.
Pleasure to watch yet again, you make working with wood so simple thank you
Thanks a lot.
Dave you remind me of Jesus, he was a carpenter 😅. No really you're so good. It looks like you put wood on your workshop ceiling, clever lad ❤
Thanks a lot Carol....the van is really coming along....I'm real pleased with the progress.
Good morning, Dave. I have the attention span of a gnat and yet follow your vids completely. Thanks for the easy ro follow instructions. 🙋♀️🇨🇦
My pleasure...thanks for watching.
Absolutely stunning, such a calming wonderful place. My husband and I really enjoy watching your videos x
Thanks a lot....The Simonside hills are great....fantastic view from the top.
Brilliant job. I wish you where a family member. I could of learned a lot from someone like you in my life
Many thanks.
Can I ask are Vivaros reliable I've heard they have gearbox issues, any advice would greatly appreciate thanks
Hi, I've had 7 vivaros and not had any problems with the gearbox......one of them did have a problem with the DPF....but other than that I've found them to be good.
Your a busy man Dave - coming along nicely 👍
Yes I like to keep busy.......really pleased with the progress on the van. Thanks for watching.
This gives me 80/20 extruded aluminium vibes 😏
Thanks a lot.
I think its a very good way to work, give everything a A,B,C,D and so on, measure all things up first, and then bring it to the table. I love how organised you work, very good example to learn from. Looking forward to the next video!!!
Thanks a lot......I find working this way saves having to re do things later....a good plan and accurate measurement is the way to go.
Fantastic video once again.
Many thanks.
Brilliant channel sir,joy to watch👍
Thanks a lot....loads more to come.
cracking job, Dave.
Many thanks....the build id coming along.
Brilliant 👍😄that was awesome, thanks for uploading
My pleasure, Thanks for watching.
