I've been listening Shiubya-Kei since 2017 and I'm glad someone put a spotlight to this fantastic sub-genre.. My love for Shibuya actually paved way for me to discover and love City Pop later on! 🎉

I'm from Indonesia. I really love Shibuya-kei genre, especially the jazzy, bossa-nova vibes like those of Serani Poji, Cymbals, and the early Capsule (Yasutaka Nakata)'s works. And nowadays, there is TWEEDEES. Yes, it's sadly very underrated. But I guess we should be proud to know such hidden gems.

Are you serious right now? I've loved Toyko sniper for the better part of two years ever since discovering it. Talking about reading blog post, articles, forum pages anything I can get my hands on. There is something drawing about Hitomitoi voice that for some reason stands out from the rest of the typical picks in city pop, Don't get me wrong anri, Taeko Onuki, Miki Matsubara and the rest are steller but tokyo sniper just hits so much deeper, like a shotgun blast to the ear. Glad to see others appreciate it like I do, cheers to a cult classic that is tokyo sniper.

Yesss, this albums really dope --but sad, and her voice just fits it perfectly. It doesn't sound like she's trying too hard, but it still sounds so good. For sure one of my favorite albums of all time.

Thank you, that actually means a lot 👌. I'm working on some new projects right now; I'm just stuck on some jobs, finals, and life in general. I just used a Fujifilm X-E3, with a film simulation that comes preloaded in the camera, and the cheapest pancake lens that I found: Fujinon XF27mm F2.8 (neither have image stabilization).

it never went anywhere, unless you got into it less than a year ago on some trend, its been thriving for ages. also if it has been "forgotten in recent years" why are there so many modern shibuya kei playlists with tons of views from waves of new fans and artists? trender.

I like your videos! You should do one about Japanese new wave/prog bands and artists of the early to earlymid 80s! YMO, chakra, jagatara, haniwa, Jun togawa, kidorikko, Mariah, juicy fruits, early 80s Taeko Onuki, and definitely more of them that I forgot.. it would be interesting

There's a radio host in COLOMBIA who made an entire 10 hour special with the best sound of Shibuya Kei/Japan jazz and house. Thanks to him we know Pizzicato Five, Cornelius, Sakamoto, etc... playing in colombian radio during the 90's and early 2000. I could share that special show with u.

Really thxx. And I hope Shibuya-Kei to be re-examined like City Pop. Cuz it's not difficult to listen and also really sophisticated

Shibuya-key is more like a music wave instead a genre itself. It can include different music genres and that’s why we can hear bossa nova, hip hop, pop, electronic and many other genres through bands and groups. Good video, keep it up!

It wasn’t and it is not a music genre tho. Is a cultural movement. Even SK main personalities disagree in calling it a music genre since its pulls from many cultural sources and it is not only about music, not by a long shot.
