ascended astarion is a complicated discussion but for one to choose his destiny one should know him. Astarion is my most beloved and i truly understand his want for revenge and the need to be the one above, it just comes natural after abuse, as they say that abused becomes abuser BUT he need not to. he can break the cycle, and trust me ik he is not obliged. i do not wish him to play as a kind person but to kill and become cruel. that's something he wouldnt want to. the drive for power is dire but he can not be put above his way. i want him to free himself. to become the abuser is just getting back into what he was running from the positions change but his heart doesnt. he fills the void with the hunger for power.

So I am currently at my first playthrough (cause in my original first one I missed important scene and could not trigger romance and I reliased something is wrong when I got to Baldurs Gate) and now I am heartbroken because I literally have no idea what to chooooooseeeeeee

I ended my first run romancing Astarion, didn't let him ascend, and started a new run, telling myself I'll let him ascend on this one. Seeing this made me change my mind. There is no way I'd let him become this, oh god, it breaks my heart.

I felt that quick save. This is the part where you gotta start saving him from himself. He gets a little manipulative, and a lot scared and thinks this is what he wants.

To the Ascended Astarion haters: The entire time you've known Astarion his life has been about drama, fun, lies, shenanigans and debauchery. There's a good soul in there, but there's also an irremovable desire to cause trouble, commit crime, and poke the bear. Becoming 'Ascended' gives him more tools to stir more chaos, while turning his back on the person he could be if he wanted so much to co-exist with others. It isn't birthing a new person, it's empowering the charlatan he has always been. It's protecting him from ever being too weak to stand against oppression, by becoming that which oppresses. Each ending is a success story for Astarion. Being upset that you feel he's colder to your Tav might be a shame for you, but Astarion in either ending exists with or without you, and it's so satisfying to see him excel as someone who overcame their trauma and broke the cycle (good aligned), or as someone who dominated their jailers and masters, only to become better at it than any who dared to enslave them, thus saving themselves from a life of misery until the end of time itself. (evil aligned) Man, I adore the writing of these characters. Both versions of Astarion are capable of so much, and that includes both good and evil acts. There's so much to love. Bravo :D

It bugs me now, that the in-game dialogue constantly has Astarion saying he was a spawn for “nearly 200 years”. The key words being “nearly” or “almost”, when we’ve gotten confirmation through media and interviews that he was turned over 200 years ago. They did this so that we couldn’t just steal Gale’s scroll of True Resurrection to cure Astarion’s vampirism. 😤

When does he do this cause I have been at 100 approval before I got to the shadow lands and it still has not happen yet I have gotten to moonrise but have not done his quest in act 2 yet and I’ve been avoiding the drow

Honestly him ascending is entirely Tav's fault, the game throws SO many hints at you, and if all that goes over your mind, you can pass an insight check and the game tells you that he is not himself, that he is intoxicated by power hungry impulses and he is not thinking clearly, very similar to the dark urge impulses. So the right thing to do is to help him in his greatest moment of need and kindly nudge him to not ascend. I will protect the little scrap of soul he has left with tooth and nail in every playthrough :') So thank you for recording every dialog so i dont have to do it :____)

Astarion doesn't have any good endings at all. Either he is an egoist and Tav adapts to his desires, or Tav is selfish and through verbal manipulation forces Astarion to abandon his original desires in favor of a life convenient for Tav. Perhaps people believe that they “can fix” him, because he later thanks them for not to sacrifice 7,000 souls, but in fact he will suffer in any case, physically (being limited in his capabilities due to vampirism) or morally ( live in the illusory happy life of a powerful vampire). But THIS end, where Ascended Astarion loses the only companion with whom he would be satisfied with such a luxurious life, is of course the worst ending
