    Are All of the Railroad Crossings going to be Gone Forever in Australia 100%. All to be Grade Separated Bridges Only. Is it just the Passenger Trains or some Freight Trains?

  • @soulsphere9242

    Not even close and that will never happen. This project is just for the city of Melbourne and some surrounding towns. All the lines are primarily passenger lines. Despite impressive progress there will still be dozens left in Melbourne once the project wraps up as not all crossings are planned to be removed and no freight-only crossings are being removed.

    Sounds good in paper but in practice some lines are going to be extremely difficult to do. Upfield has some tricky ones and the Belgrave line has where it's the only road accessing an entire area and can't be closed with an entire alternative road being built.

    So when is the Glen Waverley line ever going to become level crossing free? Isn't it time that the state government stopped pussyfooting around removing level crossings on train lines that don't have a lot of traffic using them just for the sake of making those lines level crossing free and got on with removing the really busy and congested level crossings that are located at High Street in Glen Iris, Tooronga Road in Malvern, Glenferrie Road (with its tram square) in Kooyong, and Madden Grove in Burnley?

  • @jontytheswiftie22

    Hopefully they’ll be removed eventually! I think they look at a range of factors when deciding to remove which level crossings, such as cost, what method will need to be used, how congested the road is, and how much train traffic is due to increase in the future. Level crossings are a pain in the ass, I feel your pain.

    This is a privacy issue, not a noise related issue that they are complaining about. Keon Park Station is next to a busy major intersection, and it is also right underneath the main flight path that uses the East-West runway to land at Melbourne Airport. If residents didn't like the noise then they wouldn't have lived there to begin with. The station could easily have been lowered into a trench. The residents probably asked for that when they first received notices about the level crossing's removal, but obviously their call for this has fallen on deaf ears. Now they are forced to have to put up with prying eyes looking onto their balconies every time that a train passes by or passengers waiting for a train are standing at the nearby station. How would you like this? As for moving, it isn't as easy to do as what you seem to think that it is.

  • @mathewferstl7042
    @mathewferstl7042Ай бұрын

    @darrenmiles-morland8038 they are absolutely complaining about the noise. Look at any of the articles on it. As for privacy, it has a tall sound wall at around the station tracks and it's not different to living next to another apartment... it's a tiny issue, effecting a tiny amount of people but has been brought up to the level of state media. Just another attempt to throw dirt on the labour party.

    It was a lack of foresight by the state government to raise the railway line over the road just here. If you think about it, the state government have made a very serious blunder by not removing the level crossing that's a little bit further up the line at Settlement Road at the same time. With the closeness of Settlement Road to the Western Ring Road overpass, the only way that it will be possible to remove the level crossing there is to either lower the railway line into a trench or close the crossing completely. Settlement Road is too close to the raised railway line at Keon Parade to lower into a trench, and to close it completely would mean that traffic would have to detour a long way out of their way to use the nearest crossing points to go straight through. Does this mean that there will always be a congested level crossing at Settlement Road? Both Settlement Road and Keon Parade should have been removed at the same time, and both of them should have been lowered into trenches.

  • @RumperTumskin

    @@JTRAIN Much closer to Surrey Hills site though - the Government should be trying to increase access to public transport options, not add another 500m walk from where a station was previously located for the last 100+ years. If the argument is that all new platforms need to be straight, then there's a suitable section just to the east of the original Mont Albert station. The LXRP has permanently worsened Mont Albert and Surrey Hills, and reduced (rather than increased) these "open spaces" they're so proud of.
