UNFORTUNATELY YOU’RE RIGHT, I’m Mexican but I’m also realistic…In Mexico there is what we call classism, some people there even discriminate indigenous people when we all come from there🤦‍♀️🥲Other Mexicans welcome all foreigners and treat them so well but unfortunately we don’t always feel that welcome in our own country and by the ones of our kind, now I am not generalizing ok but I live in USA and I’ve been able to go to Mexico a few times and I have seen things👀🤦‍♀️ FORTUNATELY, WE’RE NOT ALL THE SAME.

Mexicans youtubers that i know think this is irreversible. I think the situation will get worst. Why? Because the problems in Europe and North América will drive more people to the global south. And Latin Americans goverments will do nothing about it.

Yes, whitewashing in Latin America is a thing. Same happens in India, a friend showed me how some TV shows and advertisements prefer light skinned people, while most people there aren't like that.

The U.S. is always going to put a twist on it, rubios are not white, Anglos think there white, its probably becouse lighter skin reflects light, dark absorb light, better photometrics, I have seen many brown Mexicans that are very beautiful, dont try and compare U.S. stuff with Mexicans, even indigenes people in Mexico have many rights in Mexico

Just answer me this: when mexico city becomes as expensive as New York is (or more) at the point that it won't even be affordable foreigners, what's going to happen then? They move to poorer areas, and the prices get increased. Then again, foreigners move to more affordable, poorer, dangerous areas where you can't go outside at night, you hear shooting everyday, there's not always water, you hear dead bodies are found everyday, and the list goes on. Then what? You move to another country, of course, but what happens with the country/cities you left behind? Where locals don't live anymore, and most properties have become expensive airbnbs, cafes, and fancy restaurants? They become ghost towns, but then what? What happens with cities or areas where nobody can pay rent? Where nobody lives there. What happens with those cities? I hope someone can answer this with an example.

This is nothing new. I grew up in Mexico City and I experienced it when I went to school over there. You feel it more especially when you go to private schools, white mexicans are racist towards dark skin mexicans, I'm brown and sometimes they used to call me offensive names. I was more discriminated in my own country than here in the US. Also, if you are a white mexican and go to a nice restaurant or any shopping center, you'll get better treatment and better service than any other people. It's the truth.

Sadly, we still have lots of issues to overcome... i've been in the industry for a while now, and i feel terrible that this image is still perpetruated in the very core... but it seems like even us, as mexicans , dont want to change that... they often even reffer lighter skin people as beautiful and darker people (but not black, cause thats cool in advertising) but just like brown as ugly...

Was there 3 times. It is very easy to get there from the US. Cheap too. People are super friendly and the bus system is very cheap. Rides below $0.50 USD. You get a bus card from a bus station and can deposit maximum of 120.00 Mexican Pesos (approximately 6.00 USD). You use the card each time til is runs out. Then deposit money and get it back to 120 MEX D. There are good restaurants around the Basilica and walking to the Tepeyac the old church not difficult. Please make the pilgrimage with your family and make a visit to Our Lady. She will know you came to visit.

There is so much deep rooted self hatred and racism (not colorism like they try to claim to reduce the impact). Calling lighter skinned babies better looking than their brown counterparts, saying “mejorar la raza”, using indio or prieto as a put down, staying out of the sun to not get “dark”, saying “I used to be blanco when I was a kid” etc. Not to mention the fact that advertisements, telenovelas, and film portraying more white faces than back here at the states. In fact an average looking, thin, short white girl can easily land a modeling job over a statuesque brown skinned woman. I’m an American of 100% Mexican descent and when I visit Mexico, the racism towards indigenous people and self hatred is so unnerving. Lots of people say it doesn’t exist because its so engrained in the culture that its hard to see it unless you have a different perspective to draw from. If it were classism, it would mean that its accepted that all brown people are poor and all white people are rich; or it would indicate that brown wealthy people are treated better than white poor people. Which is not the case because we all know there is a preference for white people in Mexico and there is even a disgusting phrase that says “ aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda.“ alluding to indigenous people as apes and saying that no matter how they dress, they will still be apes.

Mexico has found a nice balance and acceptance regarding race, everybody gets along and they understand the favoritism that some "whiter" Mexicans get. A lot of what would be considered taboo subjects about race in the U.S or Britain are discussed openly in Mexico, I guess because we don't see ourselves as White vs Brown but as different shades of Mexicans as opposed to the clear racial divide in the U.S.
