    I’m confused as to the benefit of NDI in this case, why not stream directly from the gaming PC? Does using NDI really take less encoding power than streaming direct? In my mind, you are sending that video signal regardless of if it’s streaming to YT, or NDI. If NDI does indeed have less encoding needed, why isn’t that functionality built into streaming direct?

  • @CoalitionGaming
    @CoalitionGamingКүн бұрын

    NDI is its own licensed technology, so it won't be built into anything that doesn't want to pay fees. That's why it's a plugin. But in of itself, it's "lighter encoding" (and thus the increased bandwidth it uses and the need to be used on a wired gigabit network instead of wifi), which when primarily compared to software x264 (CPU encoding in OBS), is better and will net you some performance increase in games. Dual PC with NDI > single pc software x264 CPU encoding. Single PC streaming using GPU hardware encoding has made this less beneficial, but there are other benefits to a two PC stream setup outside of just fps/performance benefits that has some people still wanting to use a dual PC setup.

  • @zonfarentertainment

    @@CoalitionGaming so it’s lighter encoding, which means more data flowing through. I assumed because NDI is able to stream video with such low latency, that the encoding that was being done was making it so that less data is going through. So in theory, if you had a fast enough internet connection, and NDI encoding was built into OBS, there wouldn’t be a benefit to a 2 pc stream setup in terms of loss of performance when gaming for example? Thanks for shedding some light on this!

  • @CoalitionGaming
    @CoalitionGamingКүн бұрын

    I don't know how you reached the conclusion that you did. Heavier encoding generally means less data (more compression). Lighter encoding generally means more data (less compression). NDI doesn't have anything to do with Internet speeds, only network speeds (your LAN, aka local network), since it was designed for local use. Adding the plugin for it to OBS essentially "builds it in" to OBS. It would end up functioning the same and is needed to be used that way as this video shows, on both PCs, for this method to work. NDI's benefit is that it's lighter encoding than CPU x264 encoding in OBS. you will get better game performance doing a 2 PC NDI stream setup than a single PC CPU encoded stream. GPU hardware encoding (like nvenc), as I said, makes this more complicated as you get great quality streams with the right settings, and less performance loss than CPU encoding. NDI 2 setup is still competitive to this but up to you which way to go. Another big benefit, as I said, of a dual PC setup is less to do with any kind of perceived stream quality or performance stuff and more to do with stream reliability. Gaming Computer crashes or restarts? Stream stays up because of 2nd PC. In the end...it's free. Just try it and see what you think instead of overthinking it.

    @@CoalitionGaming thanks for the explanation, I know NDI doesn't use the internet. I was speaking a hypothetical.

    @@zonfarentertainment some people have brought up the idea of using NDI in a virtual LAN, so it would go over the Internet. While it could work, the sending party would need at least 100mbps upload for a chance at it working and not being out of sync or laggy. It's just not recommended to use over the Internet.

    I was not happy with the NVEC performance of my 4070 GPU while playing Helldivers and it seems doing the CPU at the same time with only 8 cores (R7 5800FX3D) caused way too much blocky video when the action got hectic. I have a second PC that isn't being used, it has a 3600XT in it that should be enough to get me 1080p 60 with a smoother result I'm hoping. I'm going to try this out tomorrow and see how it works. Thanks for the easy tutorial!

    If you're talking about streaming to twitch, quality won't be any different on single PC vs dual PC. Their problem is limited bitrate ingest. What you described is only fixed with higher bitrate and twitch is limited to 8000kbps. This is generally why I suggest 1600x900p60 to twitch instead of 1080p60 as well. If you're streaming to KZread, then you can crank the bitrate to deal with it so long as your upload speed can handle it.

    You, sir, have earned a like, a sub, and my undying affection! I built a BEAST of a streaming PC with an RTX 4080. I've been playing Fortnite on my Xbox Series X and streaming from a PC. Recently, I wanted to try my hand at keyboard and mouse knowing that my PC should be able to handle anything I threw at it, so I got an Azeron Cyborg and started playing Fortnite on PC. Imagine my shock and horror when my 4080 couldn't keep up with playing, streaming and recording. I understand that streaming/recording uses resources: in OBS I've got both the vertical and horizontal back track running 3 minutes, I'm recording completely in horizontal, and I've got the vertical virtual cam running so I can pickup that image in TikTok Live Studio to broadcast my vertical stream. I had no issues running all of those instances when I was playing on Xbox. When I moved to PC to play in 4k120 like my Xbox, my 4080 had a seizure, lol. I spent several days scaling back settings until I found something that works. I've just started closing sources that aren't active an IMMEDIATELY saw a dramatic difference in the average time to render frame. I'm excited to play with the rest of these and see what kind of improvements I can get.

  • @CoalitionGaming
    @CoalitionGaming11 күн бұрын

    You also don't need to be playing in 4k120. Im sure you have a monitor/screen that can do that, but thats too much to ask of any GPU with that kind of load right now anyways. Most would suggest 1440p120. It should still look good no matter what. The reason consoles can do it is that they are basically using some tech to fake their way up to that res/fps. The hardware inside cannot natively do that. Definitely lean on features like DLSS (or FSR on games that dont have DLSS) whenever possible as well. But the biggest thing you can do to get FPS back up is drop the resolution. Here's another video that can help you out tho kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWWZu9iiYqqspJs.html&t=

    Yes and yes. But you'd have to test to find out if its still beneficial to your setup. Either way, you would add a level of fail protection because if your main PC's OBS crashed, PC restarted, or otherwise needed to be rebooted for any reason (driver update or troubleshooting), the stream would stay up since its still running from the 2nd PC. Not all the benefits of a 2 PC setup are strictly performance based.
