This is such an underappreciated video! As a greek many of the words and phrases are very familiar and, with the modern pronunciation, some of them are still in use! Particularly, my grandpa still says "άι εις τον κόρακα!". The only thing I wanted to correct is that ει would have been pronounced as a long /eː/ sound. Also υ would have been pronounced as /y/, similar to ü in german or to the u in french. Overall great video, though, very informative and fun, liked and subscribed!

Thanks for all these videos I watched during this past days, thanks for your interest for Antiquity, I like this period in history very much! დრილები, it is a georgian word/alphabet. But I dont know what it means, maybe name of the local tribe or place. Anyway, Georgian language is as old as Greek one, and it is more historically correct to say "Ancient Georgian kingdoms" Not "modern Georgian territory". Georgians always lived there, they are native people and had at that time 2 Georgian kingdoms, Colchis and Kartlis/Iberia. This two Georgian kingdoms were united sometimes there and here during the history, but final unification happened in middle ages, under king David. ქართველი ხალხი/georgian people, საქართველო/Georgia in georgian language. Because when you say "modern Georgian territory" It sounds like it wasn't before, like we say modern Turkey, as Turks-Seljuks migrated into predominantly Greek speaking lands and tok it. Georgians on the other hand, always been there. Ancient nation, with ancient history, cultur and language. You must know story about Argonauts, Jason and golden fleece, from Greek mythology? Where do you think it was? Or story about Prometheus, again from Greek mythology, who stole fire from Guds and gave it to people, where do think he was punnished? Im just saying, even though Georgia is ancient, with ancient culture, traditions, with one of the oldest languages in the world, which by the way doesn't belong to any language tree, it is language on its own, own tree of ქართველური ენა/georgian languages, this country is still very much under rated and almost forgotten by most. That is probably why you dont know about it, that is why most do not know about it. Just makes me said..

I admit, I don't know nearly as much as I'd like about Georgian history so this comment is very much appreciated. I have in fact been to Tbilisi and to this day I think Georgia is one of the best places I've been to. Your language is beautiful, and I have to admit the alphabet (though I can't read it) is the most beautiful one in existence! I will certainly be exploring your history more, thank you!

History is written by the victor. In the Ethiopian version, Memnon was cheated out of victory when Apollo disobeyed Zeus and interfered. It makes sense. Bird referred to Jordan as god in sneakers. Mayweather vs. Hatton was 1 of Mayweather's most dominant wins. Jon Jones vs. Gustafson. 1 on 1, it's usually a mismatch

As an avid lover of history, I've seen more and more history videos that are clearly AI generated or enhanced with poor writing and grammar or even incorrect facts. Your videos are such a breath of fresh air...Everything is well polished with proper introduction and writing and immersive to the viewer with Ancient Greek readings and great imagery. Please don't stop making content as they truly give the events of the past the demonstration they deserve.

The way you read these is know as "Erasmian" dialect. Im Greek, and withiut any annotations on the screen,if i just heard you read these out loud, i wouldn't understand ANYTHING. This is not the xorrect way to pronounce ancient Greek. It might be considered "dead", but remember, same case with Latin, it's only realistically used in church, like in the orthodox church. We have a roughly solid base for what ancient latin sounded like, based on the modern day languages that are closest to them (Italian mostly, Spanish to a lesser extent). Same happens with Greek, we modern Greeks might have dropped the long and short vowel differentiation, but most definitely pronounce these better. Sorry for the long comment, congrats on your video, just giving an explanation, it sounded nothing like Greek! Cheers, and keep it up!!

There were probably some things that would be useful, but generally speaking, there would little benefit to train as if it were 3 thousand years ago. In fact, it would be regressive. To think that with all the advanced technology in training, nutrition and psychology, in addition to other factors, that ancient Greeks would run rough shod over modern-day champions is, in my opinion, ludicrous. The boxer Jack Johnson would probably beat most of the ancient boxers. Usain Bolt would run rings around the fastest runners they had. And so on and so on...

Carduchii used to be Armenian and urartu and Assyria. When Iran conquered it, Iranians forced themselves on them. Nothing Kurdish nothing indigenous about them. Don’t be a spineless worm. Land was Armenian and partially Assyrian, before Greeks and Persians ruined Armenian borders. You know nothing

  • @sig7948

The word Kurd doesn’t exist until 9th century. Read a book worm. Kurds are from Central Asia, their middle eastern genes are stolen. They helped Turks and mongols genocide Middle East. Carduchii were Iranian tribe mixed with old mountain men and pre Armenian tribes who are the ancestors to armenins and Armenians mixed with them. They were mixed but not armenins . It used to be Assyria. But how much of their ancestry was still Assyrian is anybodies guess.

The dumbest thing schools in Greece do is not teach us the correct pronounciations of things like η, ει, ου, αι, θ, β,γ etc because in modern greek there are so many letters and diphthongs that sound nothing like the modern ones even though they are written the same. For example, we would pronounce χαῖρε as "heh-reh" because "χ" in modern greek sounds like "h" and "αi" sounds like eh (similar to ε). I really put effort back in highschool and felt good being able to understand and "read" them correctly. Imagine the surprise when I found out that I could barely understand the context when I heard the correct pronounciations, as if I just started learning another language. That's like teaching math using random symbols instead of numbers.

This is the totally false MYTH of Hypatia, invented by atheists and feminists. They invent and falsify historical figures. You should have detected that with your inborn BS detector. Never in the history of mankind has the SH*T been piled so high as in this video. She was a real figure, but a relatively unremarkable one, who invented nothing at all. Nor did the Christian authorities kill her. She simply died in the street fighting that was going on constantly in the city at that time.
