    I'm having trouble keeping my rear wheels on the axle head what do I need to do

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert10 ай бұрын

    To fix this issue, follow the instructions for the “Rear Wheel Testing” substep for Step 4 of the P4613 Straight Tracker. “Roll car forwards and backwards 1'-2'. Rear wheels should stay against axle heads. If a wheel moves toward car body, use pliers to rotate axle heads slightly. Keep retesting until rear wheels stay against axle head”.

    how do youshave and "square" an outer hub? which is round?

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert10 ай бұрын

    “Squaring” a wheel hub means to flatten it so the wheel hub is perpendicular to the pinewood derby car body, reducing friction.

  • @DerbyCarExpert

    This often is a result of poor wheel alignment or even off-balance weight placement. We suggest double checking the measurements on both of these things. We have a wheel alignment measuring tool that could help if you want to check that out. pinecar.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/P456

  • @DerbyCarExpert

    The Royal Ranger wheels have a larger hub bore than the Pine Car or BSA Wheels. You make up the size difference with a small piece of brass tubing (purchase at a hobby shop). Use the brass tubing to make a bushing that will make up the size difference

    Good afternoon, When weighing to find out front axle weight. As scale heights are different would you elevate the rear axle to the same height as the front axle when weighing? Thank you in advance

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert6 жыл бұрын

    This is in the Performance and Conformity System instructions and should be the same for any scale: Be sure the entire weight of the car is resting on the Scale. Wheels should not touch the surface of the table. This may require setting the car on its side or on its top. You can view these instructions in their entirety on our website pinecar.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/P4035

    You can go to the beascout.org website. Once you get to the site, go to the Cub Scout section, put in your zip code and see who the packs are in your area. There should be contact information and you can contact one of local cub scout packs to find the local races.

    Hello! This video is our how-to video for installing nail-type axles. Once thing we recommend is to be very careful when you are tapping the nails in with your hammer. If you are tapping the nail axles too hard, it can cause the car to break in all four places.

    How do you weigh the car at the from axel?

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert9 жыл бұрын

    fousies Hello! To measure the weight of your car at the front axle, you will need to place the rear wheels on a level flat surface (same height as your scale) and put your front wheels on the scale. This will give you the weight of the Front Axle. If you don’t have a scale, you might be interested in our Performance & Conformity System P4035. Here is a quick link for your convenience: pinecar.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/P4035/page/1 Hope this helps!

    PineCar what is optimum center of gravity from rear axle so car doesn't flip??

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert6 жыл бұрын

    Racers are propelled down the slope of a track by gravity, turning potential energy into kinetic energy. But, when the racer reaches the flat area of track, gravity is no longer a help. By designing a Center of Gravity (CoG) near the rear of the car, more potential energy is produced because the heaviest part of the car (mass) sets higher and has further to drop. The additional potential energy is converted into a surplus of kinetic energy, which gives the car a push to the finish line. We do recommend as a guideline your car's center of gravity be approximately 3/4" in front of the rear axle and balanced equally on both sides. For example, if the race is being held on a wood track, some believe the 1” in front of rear axle is best. If at all possible we recommend doing test runs on the track that will be used.

    Hi. I try to calculate the center of gravity height of the car. I raise up the front of the car to calculate the center of gravity height; and then I do again, this time I raise up the back of the car to calculate the center of gravity height, I raise up same height but I got the different answer of center of gravity height. Do you know why? Should I need to raise up the lighter side of the car to calculate the center of gravity height?

  • @DerbyCarExpert
    @DerbyCarExpert10 жыл бұрын

    Hello Gary, Thank you for your interest in our products! If you are trying to find the center of gravity without using our app, you can do so by balancing your car on a pencil. This will tell you where the COG is. If you would like the center of gravity closer to the rear of your PineCar, you will need to move the weights back. If you would like it closer to the front, you will need to move them forward. If you have any questions you can also contact our Customer Service Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at 573-346-5555. CST. Thank you and happy racing!

    Not recommended. The treadmill belt will scuff polished wheels. We recommend applying graphite on the inside and outside of the wheel hubs, and keeping car upright (racing position), spin each wheel individually for a minimum of three minutes. Rotate car 90° so wheels face up and down. Spin lower wheels for three more minutes. Rotate car 180° and spin the second set of lower wheels for three minutes each. Apply graphite periodically during this process, and again before final check-in!

    Wow…Those are fast times!! We do not have an oil that will work in this fashion. However, we suggest you try Ny Oil. We have not been able to find an oil superior to this one. To use…place a drop of oil on the shank of the axle, insert the wheel onto the axle and spin the wheel several times. Remove the wheel and wipe off the excess oil. You only need a micro coating of oil on the shaft of the axle. Too much oil on the axle will cause the opposite affect and slow the car down. Happy Racing!

    Do you guys have any videos for tips using oils rather than graphite on the axles and wheels? I race in multiple leagues and do fairly well. On 42 foot tracks I generally run in the mid 2.97's to low 2.98 "depending on the track". I have yet to break into the 2.96. A lot of the top racers are hitting the low to mid 2.95 mark and even one guy is running 2.94. I figure it has to be in the axle prep and lube. Thanks in advance, and great videos.

    It is important to tune wheels in the order shown for a couple of reasons. When using the Wheel Turning Mandrel to smooth wheels, a pre-coned and polished hub will get marred and compressed in the wheel smoothing process, undoing all your hard work. Do all your Mandrel work first. Re-chucking the wheel in the Mandrel could damage the wheel. Regardless of when the coning process is done, this step needs to be done carefully. If the wheel is gouged, it could be damaged beyond repair.
