Pretty much all the things that bugged you about the characters in this movie never happened in the book. Faramir wasn't even tempted by the ring and never treated Smeagol badly (though he did still feel betrayed by the incident), Theoden listened to Gandalf's advice (which was to go to Helm's Deep), and there was no time to send for help so it wasn't that he refused it was that it wasn't an option. And no spoilers but Jackson does something like that again with Frodo and a bit with Boromir & Faramir's dad in the next movie. :/ The only things I don't like that Jackson did.

At 1:22:45, the leader of the Elvish army is Haldir--he was the Elf who stopped the company entering Lothlorien back in FOTR. Why he is bringing word from Elrond rather than Celeborn or Galadriel isn't explained. None of this is in the book.

I just subbed to Patreon and I appreciate your great videos, however 15 USD is a steep price especially in my country. Please consider temporarily putting uncut movies in tier 2 until there is more content to justify the tier 3 price.

At 1:10:19, it has always bothered me that Peter Jackson & Co. made Frodo lie about Gollum. In the book Frodo says, "I do not know where he is...He is only a chance companion met upon our road, and I am not answerable for him. If you come upon him, spare him. Bring him or send him to us. He is only a wretched gangrel creature, but I have him under my care for a while."

They used Christopher Lee's voice (Sarumon) when Gandalf is all light before he is revealed. It's one of those small little details that I love about these films.

At 45:43, Eomer has 2,000 men riding north. This is curious--when our Three Dudes meet Eomer and his Riders near the pile of smouldering Orcs, Eomer is leading an eored of 120 riders, of which 15 men and 12 horses had been killed in the battle with the Orcs. So where did the other 1,800-odd Riders come from? Were they also banished? Peter Jackson & Co. have invented a big chunk of the middle part of T2T, and there are some rough edges here and there.

At 39:00, Tolkien goes into more detail about the Ents in the book. The Ents loved the wild woods and the tall trees, while the Entwives loved the small plants and made gardens to dwell in--so the two kinds seldom saw each other. The great battle seen in the Prologue to FOTR swept over the Entwives' gardens and destroyed them; the area became the Brown Lands east of the great river Anduin. When the Ents went in search of the Entwives, nobody could tell the Ents what had become of them.

30:20 - Worth pointing out Gandalf isn't just an old man who knows some magic, he is an entire different form of being - a Maiar. he is something like an Angel / Minor god who existed long before the earth he walks on. Unlike Saruman and the other Wizards, Gandalf was the only one who kept to his task of defeating the forces of Sauron so he was "sent back" and allowed to use more of his powers in his mission.

At 26:14, the fires are a not-very-successful attempt to portray the "will-o-the-wisp," a phosphorescent glow sometimes reported from marshes and reputed to be corpse-candles, leading travelers to their doom. Tolkien served in the British Army during World War I, and among the many gruesome sights he saw were the corpses of dead soldiers lying in flooded shell craters.

These three films were all shot at the same time. It is one of the beauties of a series like this, from this era. We, just now, are heading back into the practical set, and sequential filming production style. This fall, through at least 2 falls out I’d expect some BEAUTIFUL films and TV work.

Gollum was essentially in solitary confinement with Sauron himself tormenting him for 500 years. That's some undying-lands-only level of healing needed. The black liquid that the orcs force-fed merry was orcish health-potion-booze. A thing to remember about Orcs: They are Elven. They do not age, and have elven levels of physical prowess with none of the hundreds of years of practice. That Orc gloop is as good at healing as elvish medicine, but like everything else about Orcs, the dark powers took away any mercy or beauty from them, leaving only brutal effectiveness and bloodlust. Saruman, the white wizard, was very skilled with the power of his voice. Words of Power exist in the lord of the rings setting, because there was literally a song that made the universe. From the perspective of those higher-dimensional beings that sang the universe into being, the entire material plane of middle earth is composed of music. The words in this song of creation are a true speech language of power, and can be used to alter reality by speaking it into being if you are strong enough to do so, and cannot be used to tell a lie, because it either is true, or makes it so. Grima Wormtongue was seduced by the powers promised by Saruman, who used the power of his voice to influence Grima's mind. Grima was then able to be the middle man of magic delivery for saruman to enter the king's mind through his ear.

"That was a huge cake." The cake at Bilbo's party was in fact so big that it actually caught on fire while they were filming Bilbo's speech. You can see the light of the fire to the side while Bilbo is speaking. These films have dozens or more unscripted moments that were left in to add realism. For example, Ian McKellen (Gandalf) really did hit his head when Gandalf first enters Bilbo's house.

Your reactions remind me of mine when I first watched BTS. Blew my mind!!! Better than a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical!!! Big Hit/Hybe has a main in-house choreographer, but they also bring in outside choreographers. I think also J-Hope and maybe Jimin and others also do some choreography. All BTS members are from South Korea. Other bands do have people from out of the country. For example, Enhypen has members from Australia, America, and Japan. The handsome guy in the middle that you mention, is Jin, whose nickname is "World Wide Handsome." He was scouted by Big Hit Entertainment when he was getting off a bus to go to his college class. The scout went up to him and said he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. The rest of the members auditioned and were selected to enter the Big Hit trainee program.
