    I believe the new briefing was going out anyway and the clones were getting ready to receive the order about General GRIEVOUS being destroyed before order 66 happened … so Rex was probably about to get another message when Palps shows up. One thing I also didn’t notice was how specific Palp’s transmissions were to specific clones on specific missions with specific Jedi before the order went wide spread! Like certain council members had to die first before the initial attack.

    But how do you control the X32's outputs with the Emotion LV1 software? I see that it only reads the 32 inputs but where do you control the outputs and auxiliaries from? from the X32 directly?

    Each channel can be stereo so technically you could have 64 inputs in a 32-channel mixer. My rig has 20 mic/line inputs and a stereo digital input. For me that's plenty. I sometimes also take some stereo backing tracks straight from a computer on the network, so sometimes I get up to 24 or so,. but for my purposes, I've never maxed out my 32-channel mixer.

    A few reasons: First off, the band already owned the X32Rs, which they also used for rehearsals and gigs with other sound guys when I wasn’t available. Meanwhile, I wanted to stay in the LV1, and there are a lot of bands with X32s, so I just carried a WSG card. The majority of the bands I worked with regularly trusted me enough to let me swap the card.

    Very informative video with really nice details. To me I still feel that the LV1 is a complete puzzle which you have to solve piece by piece. In another video you went with another setup that's completely lv1 with no x32. Which setup is your go to? What is the complete hardware setup for the setup in this video when it comes to lv1 related hardware? I'm currently working on a project to setup a system at low budget which requires 2 or 3 mics max with the most pristine sound quality. This is why I don't feel like spending 6k or higher is the right option. Also I wonder do you believe going with mixer card and lv1 is reliable enough for live setups?

  • @vdubsvideos4619
    @vdubsvideos4619 Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! The other video is my main rig, but I work with hybrid rigs like this occasionally. As long as the artist is comfortable with you dropping a card into their X32 this is a great option because 1) They know that I can't accidentally mess up their ear mixes, and 2) I still get to use the console that I'm more comfortable with. Reliability has never been an issue. The only thing to remember about that card is that it HAS to be the Master Clock for the system. If it's not you'll get clicks. For your setup there are a few options. Waves just released the Proton Duo, which is computer, server, and switch all in one. They also have the Digigrid D cube (2 pres/2 headphones) and M (1pre 1 headphone). You may want to look at using the Soundgrid Studio app for your application. It's FREE, and is very similar to the LV1. There are some workarounds of course, but with only 3 inputs it could work well. (I have used it myself for small gigs). The downside is that prices on Soundgrid stuff have almost doubled since Covid, and they can still be hard to get. If you're patient get in the habit of checking eBay and Reverb regularly. Stuff shows up there sometimes. Also join the Waves Classified group on Facebook - there's always stuff there! I hope this helps!

  • @vdubsvideos4619

    Yes, but only at the expense of other channels. The issue is that the card slot can only access 32 channels in or out, and the X32 actually has 38 total inputs. In the routing page you can send the AUX inputs and outputs instead of mic channels.

    Great video, I have set up a similar system although I’ve run into and issue I can’t get my head around. My set up for live shows has always been DL32 and m32c onstage and m32r at foh. I’ve always run the dl32 port a into the m32c as that is the monitor console and needs use of the dl32 outputs and the foh console into port b on the dl32 acting as the slave. I have been using multirack out front along with a sever one but the limitations were getting to me so I purchased the lv1 system. My system now being: DL32 port a to m32c (sync set to internal) Dl32 port b to m32r (sync set to port a) M32r DN32-WSG card into sound grid network LV1 outputs send to channels on my FOH console which I essentially use as just an I/O for sends to the PA. However when I connected it all up and had a band playing I got lots of pops and clicks when running audio through LV1. My assumption is that because my FOH console is using the clock from the M32c onstage as it’s master the LV1 is getting confused??? Have you got any solutions for this? Thanks in advance

  • @vdubsvideos4619

    Very similar to my experience! As you probably know, the LV1 is really picky about its clock. Do you have a switch between the waves card and FOH? That has made a difference for me. That card doesn’t like homeruns. I carry an extra GS108 just in case my setup misbehaves.

    Ahsoka isn't as powerful as Yoda, who also didn't sense it until it already happened. I think it makes sense that the sacking of the Jedi temple pushed an echo through the voice, but because Ahsoka was so close to Anakin (maybe even closer than Obi Wan since he didn't sense it) she got a bit of the echo of Windu and Sidious. I think assuming that the final scene in the final Clone Wars episode, takes place a few weeks or months after the crash is a bit underestimating. All the stormtroopers are wearing armor that resembles the well integrated and finalized armor we see in Rebels, the orignal movies and the Solo movie. Adding to that, they even have established the exact same snowtrooper outfit that we see in Empire Strikes Back. In the Bad Batch series we see the new "stormtrooper armor" that they are integrating which is different from the originals stormtroopers. I know this was made before The Bad Batch series, but we can only assume that these outfits took probably on the good side at least a year before integration, possibly a few years. I think the last scene in Clone Wars also wants to represent that Vader has spent years hunting down the remaining Jedis, while doing so he stumbles upon an old memory. At that moment he remebers exactly how his last ineraction with Ahsoka was and that the lightsabers he gave her was a gift she never would've left behind. He assumed her dead in the crash or atleast exiled. And then he leaves the area in the constant pain he resides in. (Most likely he assumes her dead, as he can be heard in Rebels saying "The apprentice lives", when he feels Ahsoka is alive.)

    This video is annoying for two reasons. 1) you mix your subs on aux. subs shouldn't require mixing, just a matrix and voila, the same mix hits both subs and mains. I don't get whats hard to understand about that. When you mix subs on an aux, you create two separate mixes that have nothing to do with one another and are not coherent. There's really no debate there. Have you ever heard a 5.1 system with a discrete subwoofer channel? Yeah, I haven't either because the '.1' in 5.1 is a matrix, not a separate channel thats been 'mixed'. 2) a copper snake completely undermines the key advantages of audio over ethernet. Transport, Data Density, Scalability, all of those things go out the window. You might as well use an Allen and Heath ZED. You'll love it because you can 'mix' your subs like they're a completely separate system, you know, on an aux.

  • @vdubsvideos4619
    @vdubsvideos46192 жыл бұрын

    In case you opt to ignore everything else I wrote, my reply is simply this: you are at best arguing semantics, and at worst simply wrong. Somewhere in the middle is a hint of arrogance because you think there is only one way things can be done. That couldn't be farther from the truth - especially in this industry. (I've had 20+ years in this industry.) 1)The term "aux-fed subs" refers to the practice of only sending bass instruments to the subs (kick, floor tom, bass, etc) to prevent extraneous low end from making the low end less defined. The process can actually be done with a matrix, aux, or group out, but the concept is the same. In practice many engineers use the term "aux fed subs" even when not actually using an aux because the phrase refers to the concept, not the mechanics of it. 2) You seem to imply that the same mix goes to both the subs and the mains, but that is not the case at all. Subs don't ever see any signal from higher register instruments. In many situations my subs only get bass and kick drum. 3) Actually in TRUE 5.1 the .1 channel is a completely separate channel, called the LFE. LFE stands for "low frequencie effects", and is used in movies for things like volcanos, earthquakes, and other low end content. Only home systems send a combination of lows from the other 5 speakers to the subs to mix with the LFE through a matrix. The mix that comes out of the studio is 6 discreet channels - the matrixing only happens in your home receiver. An actual THX certified 5.1 system requires that the 5 speakers can all handle 20Hz-20k, and none of that content gets sent to the sub. I work in a multi-million dollar studio that has a THX certified monitoring system. 4) As I very clearly point out in the video there are other reasons that I chose this system. No one buys gear just because it is audio over Ethernet - that's the LEAST impressive part of this rig to me. I purchased it because the DiGiCo mic pres sound amazing, the modular nature fits the way I work, and - as I said at the beginning - I wanted to stay in the Waves environment. IDGAF that it all connects with ethernet. 5) I use a copper snake because it keeps my rig in one case, not two or more. It also keeps headphone outs at FOH.

    @@vdubsvideos4619 A hint of arrogance? That's confidence dude. The confidence comes from doing things both ways and finding the better way-the best way. But did you read YOUR response? It's soaked in arrogance (i have 20 years, i work in a multi-million dollar blahblahblah) Don't break your arm jerking yourself off bud. I don't need to swing my bona fides around and recite my resume to be right. Those who can't do teach and those who can't teach do, so listen up... <---That's arrogance. 1) When you start your paragraph with "the term [...] refers to..." you are literally doing what you accused me of which is arguing semantics. And if your low-end is 'less defined' then your mix sucks. Feeding one mix to your entire system keeps your mix very honest. 2) I don't imply. That is exactly what I meant. One LR mix is fed to all PA elements. The sum of your entire LR mix LPF'd for your subs will have an entirely different phase response than that of a separate LPF'd (aux) mix containing only low-end elements. The sub may not be the intended target of your hi-hat. But that hi-hat signal, HPF'd as it may be, still has a very slight effect on the sub's phase response and therefore the phase coherency between mains and subs-and so do the other elements of your mix when they summed together, filtered as they may be. In order to get subs and mains to work together as one system, they need to be reproducing the same source. Just on a separate thought experiment, could you imagine sending your mid-range and compression drivers or 'tweeters' only hi-hat? or sending them only the OH from the drums? Absurd right? its the same reasoning applied the same way-spectral discrimination. No one would ever do that. 3) LFE stands for "low frequency emitter" Mr. certified THX. And also....the 'what' only happens in my home receiver? what was that? the MATRIXING? is that right? ya don't say. don't you mean the AUXing only happens in my home receiver? or the AUX MIXing or the GROUPing? -- why do you gift me these things? 4 and 5) You took a system that was designed to a *more* portable DSP powerhouse and managed to make large and unwieldy-especially for such a low channel count. You've added pounds and pounds of copper to system that doesn't need it and never needed it and then posted a video about how neat and tiddy your design is. I don't think you're loading that in the back of your gluten-free Pious..i mean Prius any time soon. But 'yay' you and your portability.

Yes, I know 5.1 is a playback format, but Mr. Sollman insisted on bringing it up (even though I don't mention surround at all in my video). I simply corrected his misinformation on the topic. Yes, people do the sizzle speaker thing, but I think we can agree that it is not common practice. His comments implied that the way he does it is the only correct way, and I was countering that - which I think we can both agree on. Copper snakes might not be ideal, but for a smaller show the difference is negligible IMO. You also admitted that you didn't do a true AB test since the transformers were another variable - and even different transformers can have a noticeable impact... so I'd be hesitant to stand by that opinion until you can do a true A/B. Have you run SMAART tests on it to see what the actual difference is? I'm not being snide, I'm truly curious. Congrats on the SMAART certification. hi i have a question. 1 the gains you make them from the X32 ... you put the mixer remotely you make the gain. 2 does the mixer sound better with Waves in your opinion?

    Sorry for missing this for so long... but to answer your questions: 1-Yes, gain still has to be controlled via the X32, either in an app or physically. I tend to set gain conservatively and then use a digital trim to fine tune. The bonus of this process is that when I have a separate monitor engineer I'm not chaining levels on him/her as I mix. 2-Yes, the LV1 improves the sound, even without any plugins. That's a pretty common opinion in the LV1 community as well. Of course the plugins themselves contribute too. Even the stock EMO plugins are better then the X32 compressors and EQs in my opinion. I have another video about my rig here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6h72dmEhbSuk7g.html
