    Loved the video and bought a 10mm and 14mm hex key to do the job as you suggested. Unfortunately, once I got under my Frontier it has SQUARE holes for the plugs. Don't know why my Frontier is different. Fortunately, the holes are close enough to 1/2 inch that I was able to use my half inch drive ratchet handles and the change went smoothly. Pretty frustrated here... belt only has 18k on it & still looks new. Been Squealing upon start off & on for awhile now but especially when put in reverse or when turning on AC. I've adjusted little by little to all the way tight. None on the adjustments have helped. Before I take wheel well off buy new belt, idler pulley & tensioner pulley. Could the squealing be from the pulley on alternator or the alternator itself? Same question for the AC compressor? Or are the tensioner & idler pullied the only thing that would cause squealing? I'd appreciate any input. I've taken it to a mechanic twice for this but car wouldn't squeal for them at all so nothing was done & wasn't charged anything.

  • @NissanNut74
    @NissanNut74Ай бұрын

    When you tighten the belt, confirm the belt is getting tighter. The one belt does every pulley. Sounds like its just not tight enough or something is not letting the adjuster slide and tighten up. The front bolt does nothing but hold the tension. Only the bolt you cant see controls tension.

  • @derekmorner7909
    @derekmorner7909Ай бұрын

    I agree. So can the squealing come from the pulley on alternator or AC compressor?? Or is it strictly caused by a bad tensioner pulley?

  • @NissanNut74
    @NissanNut74Ай бұрын

    @@derekmorner7909 Most likely the slippage on the AC. While the belt is loose you can spin the AC and alternator and confirm no resistance. But the AC is hard to test if it only squeals with AC clutch is engaged. Are you sure the adjuster is seated correctly? I think the first time I installed it did not allow for full adjustment. So I did the replacement! I found that you can reach around the windshield washer fluid reservoir to easily reach the adjusting bolt (yes I still had to remove most of the wheel well cover, but I could bend 2/3 of it back to get it sufficiently out of the way). It's a bit awkward but fairly easy once the arm is through. Motor mount removal not needed. However, I'm still having trouble getting rid of all the chirping! My impression is the belt does stretch a tad when first installed, and even one attempt at tightening enough to get rid of the chirp, which initially worked, didn't keep the chirp away after a few more miles. I didn't get a tensioner measuring tool after reading so many mixed reviews about them, but trying the "90-degree turn" method doesn't seem to indicate sufficient tightness - or else it's just still stretching as it breaks in? It's quite a pain getting in that area repeatedly to keep tightening, I must say. Thoughts on chirping and tightening? I did replace the tensioner pulley as well (belt and tensioner both Gates). The pulley design looked slightly different but the key dimensions looked identical. Big sigh!!!

  • @NissanNut74
