Thank you, that looks amazing ! I’m planning to do a part of the Kungsleden , a 440 km route in north of Sweden, maybe next year I’ll try the pacific crest trail. How did you prepare for it ?

For those who have not hiked the trail this is a great summary. For me, 70% complete so far, it brings back so many memories and fears and thoughts of the unknown I had starting out. I had no idea what NM's bootheel would be like, hot AF, the wonders of hiking the Gila River, the people I'd meet on trail in towns, in hostels (The late Nita of the Toaster House particularly). Its magic, its hard, its beautiful, it'll break your heart, it'll scare you and inspire you in the same San Juan mile. I loved it, hated it, cursed it, swore I'd never do it again and can't wait to get back out there again. Its one of the hardest things I've done and one of the best. Whether you try and fail (many do), try and end up sectioning, or end up thruing it in a year (congrats!), you will never forget it and it will change who you are. Take that hardest first step and find yourself, find yourself standing on a border thinking well now what, and put one foot in front of another starting an unfathomable adventure.

I started hiking and kept on going, and going, and going. Then out of nowhere several Karen’s and Kens spoke of permits and regulations to use the public trail. A person like me can’t even go hiking in this country without confusion, fees and waiting lists. I recommend just going for it like me. I’ve done it two times now, no permit.

Stupid question… does anyone do this via a bike?
@danielschmidt-pines48682 жыл бұрын
No. There definitely are sections of the PCT where biking could be doable. However, there are many other sections where the PCT is simply to narrow, rocky, or even covered in snow. I don't even know how o e would be able to do rivercrossings with a bike.

I once took a direct route over a mountain in the Tyrol while my son went round. Lovely evening, teensy storm waaaay in the distance. No problem, it'll pass miles away. Came straight for me... Charging madly across the hillside with no flash/bang gap, I found an unexpected byre complete with cattle, going nuts. I joined them. Then an epic trying to cross the ensuing flash flood. Son completely unconcerned about my whereabouts (so he claims!) down in camp.

Hikes like the PCT and the AT are so crazy because with their length, you see so many different landscapes on just a single trail
