The reality is the the various T20 leagues should pay Finder's Fees to the relevant boards. Let's say 10% of the hiring fee of each player. That'd make a huge difference to the organisations that develop these cricketers.

re: Yas's point about nobody being at the Gabba in January '24 when the Windies won - attendance for those AUS-WI Tests was actually pretty healthy. 67,000+ in total for the Adelaide Test, and somewhere in the region of 23,000+ for the first two day-night sessions of the Brisbane Test. The problem on that final day at the Gabba was that it was also about 38 degrees Celsius and 95% humidity, with an added cyclone warning just for fun. (Not to mention the ticket prices.) Hence the tiny crowd, who were rewarded for their commitment to live cricket by getting to see something historic. Australians still turn out for Test matches (though not in Perth), but your general point stands - without a competitive contest, and value for money, attendance for Test cricket will fade away.

Fyi, Wisden Cricket channel was discussed in an Indian cricket podcast which has more than 100K subscribers and the discussion was the anti India/ BCCI n Indian team bias in the discussions here. The conclusion was this anti India/ BCCI is because the Brits cannot accept the success of IPL and the money generated by it that has made BCCI the richest board in the world. The Brits n Aussies are unhappy with BCCI’s power and want to go back to the era where only the ECB and CA were the kingmakers of world cricket and other boards only follow wats told to them. Not sure if many know this but when India qualified for the 1983 WC Final, the chairman of BCCI asked extra tickets for fellow board members to watch the final but ECB denied this request. Why should BCCI go back to the era where they were treated badly by the westerners? If Brits n Aussies together with Pakistanis are unhappy with state of cricket now, why not get together and organise your own bilateral series , broadcasting rights etc without BCCI and Indian broadcasters involved? Let’s see how long you can operate without indian money?

there will never be a better time to blood new bowlers than this summer, i'd drop woakes and by the end of summer i wana see S cook, T Lawes, ect get two test caps, that's not throwing test caps around for nothing, you don't want to blood these bowlers against India and Australia. It wasn't a great test match totally one sided and the usual lords snubs in the crowd, but whatever you do for WI cricket today, you ain't gona see improvements before 5/10 years that's the problem, we should have been focused on this 20 yrs ago, its to late now.

Before start of IPL, ICC net surplus in 2007 was $272M and less than 1% ($2.5M) was allocated to associate nation. In 2023, ICC net surplus was $596M and close to 11% ($62M) was allocated to associate members. So, stop crying about BCCI and go ask ECB why they are not doing more to promote TEST CRICKET. England team has visited Sri Lanka & South Africa twice in last 15 years and once visited Bangladesh in last 15 years. Don't be a clown!

This constant hypocrisy around BCCI’s wealth and power will cause BCCI to break away and create its own global governing body. BCCI does more for the smaller nations than Australian and England put together. It has created itself from scratch by brilliant entrepreneurship and by seizing the opportunities that came its way. It was a piss poor board in 1983 when India won the WC. It was treated shabbily by England and Australia all through the decades. BCCI fought its way to break the white-man’s club that cricket was till BCCI smashed it. I’m old enough to remember the mistreatment and contempt. Strangely, the Windies chose to side with the white masters till as late as 2010. We’ve not forgotten any of it. Yet BCCI is more than magnanimous if you only care to look at the actual data in the ways it creates wealth for the smaller boards. And it does it without quid pro quo in most cases. It has single-handedly bailed out srilanka, South Africa and Bangladesh; and it chose to waive the penalty towards the Windies for their aborted tour. It funds all of Afghanistan cricket and hosts the board in India and charges nothing for loaning its facilities. Nepal gets support not only with money but also with coaching, training facilities and there is now an attempt to let them participate in India’s domestic cricket. Yet, all you guys do is criticise , crib, and invalidate BCCI‘s efforts.

If you'd asked me to predict how England would get knocked out of the World Cup a month ago, I would've said we'd choose to bowl first on a flat pitch(Sharma said he would've batted first), Chris Jordan would get smashed to all corners(37 from 3 overs) and we'd get well-beaten whilst trying to chase a challenging total. It's all so predictable and will continue to be for as long as we have this strange obsession with bowling first on bat-first pitches because we'd rather chase big totals than defend big totals. It doesn't help that our captain lets terrible bowlers like Jordan bowl at decent batsmen. You can get away with asking him to bowl late on against sides who are 7 or 8 down but sadly, not all oppostion batsmen bat like American tailenders and as we've seen for over a decade now, if you let Jordan bowl at proper batsmen, he'll get hit to all places until they mistime one of his many buffet balls and get caught on the boundary. Rob Key made the bizarre claim that we'd recalled our second-worst bowler of this century to improve our batting. Well Jordan has scored a grand total of 5 runs in the 7 matches he's played this summer. To be fair, Jordan is only partly to blame for our demise. We've hardly got loads of genuinely world-class players who consistently prove to be as good as anyone in the game. Ben Stokes and others may think we had a good World Cup but the truth is, we played four games against Test-playing nations and lost three of them! Some would say we were lucky that the rain prevented Scotland from beating us! It's certainly time for a new coach and captain and the old guard need to be moved on.

I am skeptical of the argument that India’s new T20 approach is the reason for their recent successes. The difference between Adelaide and Guyana is one thing and one thing only - the former was a road which suited England while Guyana suited India’s spinners.

People can’t imagine the pressure Brian Lara played under. Yes tendulkar played for a billion people but he entered into a team that lost matches consistently and were expected to lose matches. Brian Lara entered the greatest cricket team ever and one of the greatest teams in the history of team sports in their last years. A team that went unbeaten for 15 years and for half of that time seemed totally invincible. A team that by 1992 when Lara inexplicably played only his second test was fast showing cracks in its seemingly impregnable armor. I always say the men that played under the most pressure in WI cricket were Lara, Ambrose and Walsh. Because they were tasked by WI fans in the region and all over the world with keeping the WI number one ranking and unbeaten run in tact. There are people who thought the WI may never have been beaten until the 2000s simply because they thought that the Caribbean is full of big strong black and brown men and as a result, we’d always have fast bowlers. When those did not materialize, the pressure was on Lara to make the runs and Walsh and Ambrose to take the wickets. The pressure for tendulkar was to score a hundred. The pressure for Lara was to carry an empire that was quickly crumbling around him

  • @tylermartin3173

I think cricketers in the Caribbean only gravitate to T20 cricket because it pays better. But the average fan in the Caribbean still loves Test cricket it hasn’t died. Just look at how we celebrated beating Australia in a test match
