50sKid

I'm a self taught how to do it all kind of guy. The sort of guy who should have been born in the 1950s, because I love to fix cars and build my own furniture and remodel my own house and generally all the things guys used to know how to do, and I'm going to show you guys how to do those things too. Because there ain't enough 50's kids in the world.

I have decided not to renew my old PO box as I didn't use it very much. Contact me directly if you want to send me something.

Guys I have to stop replying to car repair questions via email. I'm just getting too high a volume at this point to justify spending time on a reply that only 1 person will see. If you have a car repair question please post it in the comments section of the appropriate video so that everyone can see the reply and learn that solution. Please only contact me via email if you have a non-repair related matter. Thanks for understanding.

Hey man im not sure if you still reply atall. But my car started throwing p0491&2 codes which are secondary air pump codes. My pump works well, im thinking it could be my valve. But while driving sometimes my car will just hesitate and stop accelerating and idle very rough and I thought it was a camshaft sensor of some sort but im only getting the secondary air pump codes but i heard the air pump system wont affect the car like that. Today i tried starting the car and noticed behind and lower from the air pump i saw some smoke. Someone told me if i have alot of oil residue everywhere which i do then its probably oil getting heated up turning viscous and oxidizing so i should replace my valve cover gasket since its obviously leaking and the secondary air pump valve. It just doesn’t seem to me that any of that will affect my car the way my cars acting. What do you think?

It's not that they put the chain on incorrectly, it would just take a certain number of rotations to get both chains lined up with all the marks and you were mainly concerned with the top. The truth is none of those links matter as long everything is in the correct position

Fantastic video! Clear explanations, great view angle and thanks for including torque specs. We have 3 of these Sportages one 97 and two 2002s. When I've taken off the air intake tube I've removed the expansion joint on the air filter side only, removed the single bolt holding the resonants chamber leaving the chamber on the tube, left the single electrical connection on the air intake tube, removed the two bolts holding the air intake tube down, removed the three bolts holding the tube to the intake manifold then snaking it all out intact then flipping it 180 and laying it on sufficient rags on top of the battery to avoid contacting the positive post. Use this hint if you like but the video way is perfect.

Hey Jason - you mentioned you regret replacing the TXV. My compressor actually seized up, which I've heard can throw metal shards in the system and you should ideally also replace the condenser as well. Do you think I can get away with keeping the original condenser and TXV in this case - perhaps if I blew some compressed air through the system to flush it?

Unfortunately, the person who took your door apart did not put back the polystyrene block which goes into the corner of the and stabilizes the rear window runner if this is not put in there would be a fault code on the reader for that window.

I have a 2000 BMW 328l with A/C blowing ambient air I am tring to check the level of charge before I go throught the proper process of cjarging, the problem I come accros is I can not connect the High side quick connecter to the A/c line, low side is o.k neaning it connects o.k., my manafold is made by yellow jacket and I think the adapter is made for a different system it does not go down enaght to lock, its the tyoe that you can open and close the line to stop leakage of gas, I ordered new qick connect and will see if it wpll work. any suggestion is welcomed.

This is a great instructional video with good camera work and good verbal explanation, but it has one serious flaw, from my twenty plus years of fiddling around in an engine bay you never "just break" anything. You only do that if it's a last resort. If that's the only way to get it off, and that does happen on occasion when things get so stuck, rusted or melted into place that you have to cut or break, but you never destroy any part just to save a little bit of time unless somehow it's a life or death situation. If you tear something up and then find out they sent you the wrong part, the correct part but it's of poor quality and doesn't really fit or sometimes you find out the thing you thought was bad really isn't whereby you can then either return the part or stick it on a shelf for when the old part that luckily you didn't destroy really does go bad. It makes you feel good to replace that dirty part with a clean new one but I hate to see good parts replaced and tossed. Every time I replace a part I keep the old one at least until I take the car for a test drive and everything checks out. There's also the risk of getting little bits of rubber and plastic way down in the recesses of the engine to do God knows what. Maybe that little piece of rubber that came off when you cut the part came to rest on a very hot part of the engine which also happens to have some electrical wiring that's crucial, the rubber melts and burns through the plastic protection and through the insulation of the wire and then damn, we got an even bigger issue now. Hell you could get careless and tear something up you didn't mean to. Look I know it's tempting, I used to do it, but it only takes a couple of times for one of the above scenarios to take place to cuss yourself for doing it again. On rare occasions you don't have choice, but if even a single one of those things happens in twenty times of wrenching on a car you're gonna lose all that time and then some that you thought you were saving. It's a really bad habit. Hey otherwise though it's a stellar video. I know I typed a novel complaining about that one thing but it's really a great video.

Quick tip that could save you time in money check your fan tightness. If it’s been off before you might be able to just spin it off without the tools I found out the hard way after trying to avoid buying the tool and needing to get in there several times when I finally decided to take the fan off , I just tried it with a regular wrench with a quick tap they. came right off
