    Interestingly, I read that as part of cool down lap is for the driver's tires to pickup tire particles (aka "Marbles") left on the track to add weight to the car for weight in. Because Spa Francorchamps is the longest lap of any in the F1 calendar, the drivers don’t get a full cooldown lap here, and thus no opportunity to pick up tire particles....

  • @thepetrollist
    @thepetrollistКүн бұрын

    It’s very true (I have marbles in the carpet of my Miata btw). From what I read, a set of tires can lose up to 3kg on a long stint. As much as 2kg in marbles can be picked up during cool down… but engineers have known forever that Spa had no cool down so they’d have needed to ballast against that in their calculations. So I guess either they should have given GR a heavier car to start with, or stuck with a two stop strategy in anticipation of a possible long stint. In either case, the mitigation for the DSQ also means a 4th or 5th place finish for GR.

    Great video! I don't think McLaren handled it right at all - I almost wish Lando gave the spot back earlier and then go wheel to wheel with Oscar for it cause he was clearly the faster of the two! I do have to agree with you on perhaps McLaren are now slowly touting for Oscar to be their guy, which I'm not surprised by, I think Oscar does have the potential to be a WDC in the future!

  • @thepetrollist
    @thepetrollist7 күн бұрын

    Agreed (and thank you). I think Norris’s best options would have been to give up the spot immediately and then put pressure on Piastri wheel to wheel or just make the decision to keep the position, ignore the radio and deal with whatever happened next. Maybe, they’d have seen him as a no nonsense championship seeking driver. Piastri is a great driver and yea, perhaps McLaren is being “indecisive” with Norris because of it. Thanks much for the comment and view.

    First of all sir, a full clean race will never happen. There will always be hard aggressive drivers in the field. Second, the theft of lando’s 2nd win?? Was lando’s name already written on the winners trophy before it was even over? You have every right to not like max’s “antics” but that driving style has won him 3 titles,soon to be four most likely, 61 race wins 40 pole positions. The hard, on the edge driving style max has works because it works and it wind . If you don’t believe me look at Michael Schumacher. Same type of driving style max honed and modified to make his own. Michael won 7 titles, 91 race wins and 68 pole positions. It works. It doesn’t make friends. Friendships are futal in sports not just racing. Some do survive but most just don’t.

    Very biased opinion and the clip at the end makes it clear that you are very salty. You can make a clip like that about every driver. A 10sec time penalty wasn’t enough now for Max all of a sudden? Causing a collision is a 10sec time penalty without looking at the consequences. Remember Silverstone 2021? 10 seconds is the rule so accept it. Weird that this argument arises when Max was involved. You could’ve said this about many accidents in the past as well. The rules about moving in the braking zone are not so black and white as you think. Every situation is different. (Watch Peter Windsor’s video, he explains this in detail) You are mentioning here that Max Verstappen did it here. Why are you not talking about Ocon doing the same? Sainz doing the same a few weeks back? (No sanctions were given.) Scenario’s in the braking zone will always be a gray area. Also sad that you need to start your video with saying that the 2021 chamionchip wasn’t legit. The man is a phenomenon who deserved it in 2021.

    We have to be honest to ourselves and own up to what we're subconsciously perceiving, namely a preconceived show or spectacle, that somehow is governed by a concord agreement, that guarantees all teams and consequently drivers a piece of the pie. F1 today is no different from WWE, it follows a storyline. The storyline becomes apparent, when we watch and observe the performance of key players, it's all about keeping a certain buzz going, and social media influencers are playing a huge part in this show.

    in 2019 Rimac almost went bankrupt and since 2019 till early 2021 all of their engineers worked without pay to try to finish their Rimac Nevera. And in 2021 VW Group which owns Bugatti (Porsche, Lamborghini, Seat, Audi, Skoda,....) bought Rimac for very low money because Rimac was out of liquid funds for almost 2 years. Everything that Rimac made (and they made very little) and every pattent they have is now a proprietary ownership of VW Group and consequently Bugatti. The goal of removing the narrative of an EV being better than Bugatti was achieved.

Surely they can be made as safe yet much shorter? Shorter than they’re even proposed. 16” tires would help too. Doesn’t help they sound crappy too. Let’s hope 2026 resets proportions.

    Max is the most consistent driver I’ve ever seen, we have seen dominant cars before but never has anyone elevated their car to this level of domination. The W11 comes to mind a car many say is the greatest F1 car ever but it didn’t dominate every single race like the RB19 or the RB20.

  • @thepetrollist
    @thepetrollist3 ай бұрын

    While I agree with the fact that Max is a superb driver, you can’t forget he joined F1 in 2015 (2016 of we’re counting actual Red Bull). His dominance didn’t start until the ground effect era. Mercedes screwed up the concept and it had a trickle down impact on their client teams as well so it took McLaren, Aston and Williams out of the running. Add in the spending cap and you end up with a recipe for an abnormally dominant team. Red Bull and max got the briefing 100% correct and they deserve all the kudos for it. However, it does leave unanswered questions regarding the level of competition at present. Much appreciation for the comments btw.
