  The video is beautifuly done, what is your favourite lens? Impressive range of products as well, I felt sometimes in a market store rather than in the nature, but it's cool to see those sophisticated equipments. I personnaly love the warmth of a wood fire, but yes, the smoke sucks when the wind goes on the wrong direction, let's say it's part of the adventure.

  The best way I have found for tying off poles on a tarp (or annex like yours) is to first tie a simple knot 4- 6 inches from the top the pole , then hook the loop over the spike as you did (5:50). It's an extra step but so easy to do. The guy rope won't ever come off the top.
