I think the specific term you were looking for when it comes to the narrative/gameplay disconnect is ludo-narrative dissonance? describing exactly that issue

I was going to ask if you'd like to watch a video on Disco Elysium during the upcoming stream but I'll be working when its on so I'll leave the suggestion here. 'What Was Disco Elysium Actually About?' by Adam Millard and 'Searching for Disco Elysium' by Jacob Geller. The first is a pretty decent overview and analysis even if I think it's a bit shallow. Geller's vid is shorter and more focused on a specific aspect of the game.

Ross's video was physically painful to watch through no fault of his own. I don't have a clue what was wrong with the devs, but it should be studied.

I love Kurtis' confused "You had them come to your house?" Imagine that you had a friend who pied you in the face, and at first you thought they just baked a pie and hit you in the face with it, but then you learn they were not only so dedicated to this pie bit that they not only practiced baking pies for months, but when they decided they weren't good enough, they flew Gordon Ramsay down to not only bake them the pie, but also hit you in the face with it, and they'd taken steps to conceal this fact. It's such an absurd idea and takes so much effort that it's both baffling and hilarious. There's so much effort involved it would be hard to be mad even if it was more mean spirited.

Honestly, despite its issues, this game is still leaps-and-bounds better than the Thief reboot. I actually played and beat the Thief reboot. It had maybe two or three good things going for it.

Apparently this game was originally going to be a point-and-click but shifted to a survival horror mid development But not just that a bunch of things went wrong during development such as the guy in the kitchen, he was originally going to have a lot of lines that would give you hints however they ended up losing the audio files for them

Have you ever watched the 2013 movie Rush? It follows Austrian Niki Lauda and British James Hunt's rivalry in the 1970's Formula One. It's an absolute sleeper hit, but if you're enjoying the racing content, I think you'd love it.

So on Fallout 2 special encounters... well, they weren't exactly nerfed to the point of not appearing, it's some weirdness with the engine and modern CPUs and frame rate and whatnot. If you were playing without patches like SFall, that could have been the issue.

Warlockracy has some really interesting commentary on russia post ussr dollapse. In one of his videos on a deus ex mod set in moscow he talks about where he lived, his grandmother, and mentioned that he ran from the cops dueing a student protest in the 2000s and even points out the fence he jumped to escape.

My childhood experience with this is the opposite; coming off from the likes of Doom, Duke3D and SeriousSam, to play a game where the big point is to wait in spots, and HIDE from the bad guys is such a fresh idea to me, that it became my obsession. The following month's were me, trying my best to walk with zero footstep noise, hiding wherever odd small spaces I could fit myself into. Wearing my black hoodie and sitting on some dark corner, seeing if people doesn't notice me. The Dark Project is pretty much THE game that made me a fan of any stealth games, or even just games with a good and exploitable enough stealth systems.

So when you start a new game it builds an entire history for the city. All the people, their jobs, their schedules. It does an amazing job of making the city seem lived in. Soon a killer will strike and their reasons, methods, clues left etc are all randomly generated. So you go to a scene either finding their sloppy work or that of a professional murderer. From there it is all about finding ways to identify, track, observe, and question. The game offers a LOT to do in the seedy night life city. But it isn't for everyone because it is all about deduction and figuring out what hoops you need to go through for your information gathering.

Not gonna lie I'd kill to see you react to TTS that would be so so amazing. There really isn't enough people reacting to it (there's still some) and I feel like its required watching for a 40k fan at this point. God knows like 80-90% of the fanbase have seen it and fucking adore it. Its very much so a massive cultural touchstone in the community and you can't go into any 40k comment section without seeing at least a few dozen references to it. At some point GW shut it down along with a lot of other fan animations and projects which absolutely everyone hated. Personally I think it was because the memes and the actual quality of the TTS writing was kinda putting a lot of the overarching plot points of the legit series to shame with how clever and fun and interesting the approach was. So GW was actually worried about losing some creative direction and control of their own brand and instead of bringing him in as an official fun side series they just shut it down entirely. The series is so beloved I think GW basically forcing a stop to it (and almost any other fan works) was one of the biggest blows to the 40k fandom's good will towards the company I've ever seen. Legitimately one of the most tone deaf and business ass brained decisions I've seen in a long long while. Despite the series not finishing its still so so worth it to watch.

Max0r said in the pinned comment that he cut this one off early because he has to start working on the DLC video(s) - he's not going to make the finale until everything else is out of the way. So far as I know, those videos are going to be closer to his usual standard, runtime-wise.
