The Citroen (French automobile) has had suspension technology since, at least, the 1950s. Worked great, and made changing tires simple and somewhat magical.

I am lucky enough to be a caretaker for my godmothers Hagerty grade 2 89 miata that is currently up to 32k original miles. Her and her late husband owned and showed clastic British cars and had several E types over the years. She bought this miata in 2015 at 14.5k miles. It is super tight and I encourage everyone to try and find an all original one with no power steering to try out.

About re-gen braking - Audi e-Tron has that. Even though break pads exist on the vehicle, every time you press the break pedal the regen is used to slow the car down, thus significantly reducing the wear on the break pads. The break pads only engage in emergency breaking, and when re-gen maxes out, but you keep pressing the break pedal further. AFAIK you can drive e-Tron to the ground and never replace break pads, since they are actually barely in use.

My godmother and her late husband collected classic British cars and at one point had 3 E types, a kit jaguar ss, and a 1953 Austin Healey 100. For a few years the powder blue E type was the most all original/ best in show on the east cost US. They really did have wacky gear boxes and NEEDED to be double clutched all the time.

What was your issue with his statement on regenerative braking essentially replacing brake pads? My friend drives a Model S, and with the regenerative braking preset he has selected, he essentially doesn't need to brake; the deceleration from regenerative braking alone is nearly sufficient for all stopping/slowing, drastically decreasing the wear on the pads.

Using Marques B. as an example of integrity is totally nuts. He is the most biased, non-critic reviewer I've ever seen. He does exactly the same this Hagerty guy did when reviewing Apple products. He is unable and unwilling to make any kind of ciriticism towards apple products, he wants to keep his good relation with the brand. I'm astonished by how many people can't see how extremely biased he is. Very bad example.

If you want to feel how big trucks are getting compare them to small sports cars, especially the MX-5. I know people with MX-5's that have nearly been run over by trucks and have to act like they are on a motorcycle with regards to blind zones. Go on the Miata subreddit and you will see posts daily of crushed/smashed cars from trucks not seeing them, even if they are directly in front of the truck. Honestly at that point I doubt they could see kids around them. Also my dad has been in construction and driving trucks since the 1960's. Till recently him and his working buddies considered a truck disposable, just another tool to be used and junked once bad or past its life. These days I know many people who own trucks and will not haul things, they don't want to damage them. These people are the majority, and when a truck costs 80k to 100k (Canadian) I don't really blame them. If I was working in construction I would get a large commercial style van for daily use, no reason to get a truck unless you have to tow something.

Think of the toyota Prius owners from southpark and crank that to 9000. Then you have an idea of the average cybertruck owner. Not only is that car a joke, the people that actually paid for it are one even more so. And funnily enough they dont realize it.

The 90s were great. I had a '95 3000GT SL with 209k that still ran fine when I sold it in 2023. I also had a '98 Grand Prix GTP with 248k when the transmission went out.

while I agree with everything, there are few things that make it hard to own a 90s or 80s car today it's the fact that many of them have rust issues by now and if you live in an area like me (EU) where they inspect cars for rust on a yearly basis, it is a pain in the ass to own a rusty car. To add to that, prices of decent rust free 80s and 90s cars have gone through the roof in the past few years. Even examples with some rist will go for a price of a 6 year old car. Another thing is, parts are getting really hard to find for vehicles that are 25 or more years old now. I own a 1997 Honda CR-V and I am considering selling it and buying a 10 year old simple small car without too much tech in it

Being born in the 80s and not getting my license until the early 2000s I was able to take advantage of all the used cars from the 90s and late 80s that had that rock solid reliability. Back then the "beater" car was the best value for anyone who just started driving. When my kids are ready to drive I doubt their will be anything comparable on the road for them.

Id agree that the late 80s/90s were the best decades when it comes to development but the 2000s were the best decade to actually buy cars imo. You had all the awesome options, 90s cars were cheap, 2000s were awesome.

Cars today are better than the 90s we have electric cars and trucks now capable of free solar charging… idk why you actually think obsolete technology is somehow better lol but we have decades maybe even centuries before EV’s are even peak.

Agreed. I have 01 Mustang GT (Pretty much the same as 96-98), and that thing is perfect. Durable engine and transmission, simple mechanics and tech, great sound, underrated looks, etc. And I only paid 5000 for it. Definitely a lot cheaper to maintain overall than a brand new one, and it always puts a smile on my face. When I look at cars to buy that I can really afford and know they won't leave me stranded, 9 times out of 10 I'm looking at cars from that era. Really couldn't get much better than the 90s.
