This is beautiful! I'm confused what the trash can is for. I want to build a natural swimming pool with a stock tank and trash can filter with layers of rock, sand and charcoal. Would that media work?
@GingerFishyOfficial2 күн бұрын
Hi there, the trash can side of the filter is just for the mechanical filtration, so the physical removal of solids etc. The bog filter side of the filter as much as it does provide some mechanical filtration, it’s not great at it, but it is really good for biological filtration. Also the trash filter is good for trying different filter media’s, and also providing an area where I can add heaters, or carbon for example. I’ve never tried using sand in a filter so can’t really say how that will work. I’ve also never really used carbon in a pond filter, but I have thought about getting a carbon infused pad and putting it in my trash can filter, that way it would be easy to swop out when it becomes exhausted. Hope that helps! 😊

@GingerFishyOfficial9 күн бұрын
Hi there, I think I would have gone for a bigger filter with a clean-out valve. I think the plants in the filter struggle a bit because there’s not enough depth for good root growth. I am actually going to be doing an upgrade to the filtration on this pond soon, although the video won’t be out for a little bit yet. But yeah, Im planning to make the filter bigger and add a clean-out valve, similar to the filter I built for my DIY Patio Pond with Bog Filter. This is the video if your interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXqXktGNZb3Om9Y.htmlsi=zElkVTrP_p6Lqd71 Saying that though, if I was planning on only keeping nano fish, like medaka and white clouds, I would leave it how it is, but it turns out medaka are illegal to keep outdoors here in the UK, so I want to upgrade the filtration to the point it can handle some goldfish instead. 😊

Nice setup. I've had my pond for over 30 years I never had a problem with cleaning out my filters with tap water or even filling up / toping the pond up. The one constant pain I had was winterizing the pond and getting it ready for spring just cause something would go wrong like a pump would stop working or a random leak or it would look like pea soup after fixing every little thing it's only the past 2 years that things have just worked with zero problems but sadly this will be last season with the pond due situations beyond my control. I've always been tempted to do a bog filter setup but never the time to do it. The constant question I get asked is "what do you do with the fish when it gets cold out.?" I tell them I take the UV pressure filter out clean it and store it for the winter and between the waterfall and aerator even if it does freeze it won't totally freeze due to the fact that most of the pond is below the frost line and won't freeze. (I'm on Long Island ,NY in the US)

@GingerFishyOfficial10 күн бұрын
No aquatic soil, just planted in gravel. Yeah, the soil may have released excess nutrients into the water and caused the green water.. it probably will sort itself out given time.. but you could always take the plants out and rinse the soil off, then replant in just gravel. Do you have fish in the pond? If you have the right amount of fish, they should produce enough nutrients for the plants without the need for aquatic soil. When you grow the plants in gravel they may not grow quite as well as when in soil, but they are more beneficial when it comes to controlling algae and green water. 👍🌿

You're also "upgrading" but instead of planning, you patch it together as you go. That is the method you use for your first attempt, not on the 2nd or in any upgrade. You couldn't be bothered to fix 3 boards, make the abutments look more finished, trim the bamboo backdrop, buy new elbows to fix the sag on the net, use the wire on the whole frame once you decided on it and left the grate, or make the spouts thay spilled back into the pool look nicer.
