    You may need to do multiple sessions with your horse to help her to learn to comfort herself and relax in her stall. You do not have to manage her forever. Each horse is different. Some take longer; some learn it quicker.

    Horse needs more work in learning to lead you need to set up a better area to teach this horse. Some panels or side of a barn

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858
    @solutionstohorseproblems58587 ай бұрын

    We are working with what we have. Panels don't teach him anything. They just prevent the behaviour. Part of his problem was separation anxiety and part of his problem was anxiety about the trailer. I reward him with a release every time we get closer and that gets him close to the trailer and then eventually in the trailer. I hope you watched the whole video and saw the progress he made and the learning and confidence building that occurred.

    Why are you attempting to load a horse in wind? You have the partition closed which increases the horses suspicion as you should know horses do not like being g trapped. Your trailer is out in the middle of a field exposed and presenting a problem for you and the horse.

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858

    This horse needs to leave her home and winter is approaching. We can't pick our days to train. We also can't pick the location. She won't be travelling in my trailer. I'm just preparing her for the upcoming trip. This is where she lives so open field is what we have. I work with the ramp first and then as she learns to step onto it, I open the partition. Watch the whole video to see her progress.

    The intent of this video is to show the horse's reaction first to the saddle which blocks his shoulder and prevents free movement, and then the improvement after the wither pad is added. He bucks and protests when we first try the saddle and then canters comfortably after we have added the pad to raise the saddle off the shoulders.

    This is such a great learning opportunity - thank you! Quick question: when you reward the relaxation response by taking her out for a walk, do you walk towards the herd or away from it?

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858
    @solutionstohorseproblems5858 Жыл бұрын

    I try not to involve the herd. Rather, we do bending exercises to help her learn to relax and recognize when she feels better so she can learn to cope without dependence on the herd. Turn on-the-forehand (disengagement of the hip), with a deep step under by the inside hind leg; turn on-the-haunches by pushing the head away from you and asking her to lower her head as she backs up and steps sideways; and last leg yield.

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858
    @solutionstohorseproblems5858 Жыл бұрын

    @@dawnaustin4556 The point of this exercise is to teach the horse to help itself. Rather than go to panic mode, the mare learns to find the solution. This creates a more confident horse. I encourage the mare to come to the door. Then we take her out and do bending work to help her relax. We return her to the stall and repeat the process until she settles and eats.

    Round pen,?

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858
    @solutionstohorseproblems5858 Жыл бұрын

    This session was in an outdoor paddock, after working a few times in a large stall to teach pressure and release. A round pen could be another option. It is helpful as a smaller space and to work on a circle to prevent direct pull forward on a youngster that has this reflex. However, care should be taken with the unpredictable nature of very young horses and getting legs caught up in steel bars. I have heard from some that had this happen.

    Not quite sure why you're counting out aloud instead of just asking her to stand the counting out aloud is probably more distracting to the horse...and in the first part you're wanting her to stand but she fidgets so your companion makes her go forward...it sends mixed messages to the horse...be clear what you want it to do...try to get her used to the word stand or whoa...counting 1 to ten aloud is a bit senseless. Not being nasty...just trying to help x

  • @solutionstohorseproblems5858
    @solutionstohorseproblems58582 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. I'm not just training the horse, but also teaching the young owner who is in the cart with me. The counting is for her. She also has the reins, so the fidgeting is a result of her uncertainty.

    Yep. That was my mare any time she had to be stalled when the others were out. It's quite the realization when, no matter how bonded you think you are to your horse, they would choose to be with other horses instead of you- even in terrible conditions. We can never achieve the level of attachment they have to their herd mates.
