GarageKing

This channel is filled with how to videos on how to fix cars and motorcycles. Videos range from very simple to complicated repairs. I try to post once a week alternating between automotive repair and educational videos.

I cover many different brands such as Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Acura, Honda, Toyota, Hyundia and more. I cover brake jobs, wheel bearings, engine work, custom fabrication, and detailing. I also talk about different specialty tools that I come across that would be useful for the mechanic in us all.

I am a licensed mechanic and appreciate comments and encourage constructive discussion for everyone to learn. I am a true automotive enthusiast Feel free to ask questions.

Please note that you take on any responsibility when attempting repairs on your own. If you don't feel comfortable please take your car to a licensed repair shop.

    It really doesn't take much. On a windy day a car nearby might get enough if it is also wet. One nice thing about these things is you don't have to worry about getting it on glass. That is because it will be as if you just applied a fresh coat of Rain-X. Who here still uses Rain-X? I used to use it a lot but now it is replaced by these touchless sprays. Just do yourself a favor and don't let it sit too long. When it hits that we car it is already working!

    It is probably not the longest lasting product but it is super easy to apply it. No more waxes are ever needed now! No more buffing! Wet the vehicle spray some on (you will see the water film noticeably change instantly) and rinse it very soon after. I was able to get good results not needing a pressure washer. I usually never need a pressure washer and they are a pain in the neck sometimes. That is especially true with a gas powered one we had. Sure it had 3000 PSI of pressure but the thing was always hard to start and that much pressure is overkill. Use too sharp of a nozzle like the 0 degree and you will destroy your paint and wish you never knew what a pressure washer is! They are also a pain because of the additional work to set it up. That is not bad if you are going to use it a lot but I live in a town house now and some things can get buried in the storage room and that can sometimes take a while to get to things in there. As you may have imagined that is not fun!

  • @GarageKing

    You are so right, I was able to get good application by just using a garden hose. In fact I used it just the other week on my older VW van as there is a lot of surface area. One of the things I like most is that it is just so quick and easy to do. Again, thank you for your detailed comment and hope you are having a great weekend.

    Excellent tutorial! I’m curious why you didn’t have to add any PAG oil? I thought the PAG was commingled with the refrigerant, so when it was completely evacuated that would mean some PAG oil would be needed?

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing9 күн бұрын

    When you evacuate, you only evacuate the refrigerant. This is done by reducing the pressure so much that you are pulling a vacuum. This lowers the boiling point of any water vapour to the point where its going to boil and turn to steam at room temperature. The steam is removed and the PAG oil stays. The only time you should add more oil is when you replace a part (and even then not always). Hope that helps.

    Is there any adjustment to move the latch up and down? Mine only works when you slam it, i recently adjusted my hood alignment with the rubber adjustment screws. It’s been a little worse since because I’ve had to raise the hood slightly on both sides, if that makes sense. And so I’m wondering if I can move the latch upwards so that it has better engagement. If not I might slot out the holes in the big metal support so that I can adjust it, any ideas?

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing11 күн бұрын

    I don't think you can adjust the latch height, for most cars you can't. The reason is the latch would keep coming out of position with the pressure of the hood pushing and pulling on it. Normally its the hood that gets adjusted. BUT the faulty spring on the latch can make it harder to close the hood. I had to slam my hood, but once I replaced the latch I don't have to slam it anymore. I think it was the rusted spring in the latch.

    Nice editing. No time wasted on bolt turning. I also appreciate you specifying bolt head sizes. Saves me a little time. I'm about to do rear brakes on my 2010 Santa Fe and even though I've done hundreds of brakes jobs in my life, this is a first time for me on this vehicle. It's nice to know ahead of time if there are any difficulties on a job and this one looks pretty easy. What was the stuff you sprayed on the back of the pads before installing them? I usually just use some brake pad stop-squeak from a tube I've had for years.

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing12 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment. The spray is basically just a sticky stuff that holds the pads in place. Your brake stop-squeak will work just fine. Don't forget to lube the pins, that's a very important step. Also if you have lube great, if you are getting low I did come across this stuff a few months ago amzn.to/48UD3W3 and I swear its the best I have used. Safe for all rubber, and you can use it everywhere, so even as a stop squeal.

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing13 күн бұрын

    Well, if it's still working you really don't know how much is in there. The only way to know is to evacuate it, and weigh what comes out. I just did a dye video on the civic today (yes leaking), and replaced the condenser. When I was filling it took about 2oz to turn the compressor on so not much to get the ac going. By the time you have about 4oz in it, its starting to cool. I find from experience that when they are about 1/2 full they cool pretty good. So as an estimate you are probably around 1/2, so I would not add more than 8oz, as 16oz is 1lb, and that's a full charge from 0. BUT - PLEASE DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'm not there to supervise.

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing14 күн бұрын

    No you are not, that is the reason that I used the tool. If you are talking about the 8:50min mark I used the GM Kent Moore tool to release the hoses. That is the easiest way because the tool can be in any position. If you do it your way you have to squeeze those tabs which don't always play nice, you can't be in any position, and you can loose the O-Ring that will come free and often binds when you put it back together. Doing it with the tool allows for everything (clip and o-ring) to stay in place when when hose is removed. GM uses the same type of connections and how I did it is how the manufacturer states to do it. How you did it, is how someone without the proper tool figured a way to take it apart. Sorry but you are wrong here. I appreciate your other comment, but in terms of taking the hose apart, this is why the tool was made.

  • @GarageKing
    @GarageKing14 күн бұрын

    I hear you, but your tip is fine as long as someone resets the O-Ring. When you do it your way its easy to loose the o-ring and it can bind. The clip remaining in the hose is what keeps the o-ring in. You may have been lucky so far, but if you do it your way please check the o-ring is seated before you put it all back together.
