This is different from the equations provided in the FE manual. I'd be better and more useful to use the FE manual equations in your examples and explanations because those are the equations students have access to on the day of the exam.

It all depends on the arrangement of the support and the movement it restraints . In case of welded pipe support, this means you are restraining movement in both upward and downward directions, lateral movement, in addition to the longitudinal direction also. While in case of strapped supports, you are restraining only vertical and lateral movement. While longitudinal movement is free (except for the factor of friction of course). For the second problem, where does it say that the angle of friction is 20?

Angel of friction between concrete and soil will either be given in the problem OR it could be assumed to equal approximately 2/3 of the angle of soil internal friction
