    (1) is welded pipe support on the bottom of piping SAME as strapped around the piping in terms of ceaser iI input? or (2) is welded pipe support treated as the +Y restraint type in the upward direction only? or (3) is welded pipe support treated as the Y restraint type in the upward and downward direction?     It all depends on the arrangement of the support and the movement it restraints . In case of welded pipe support, this means you are restraining movement in both upward and downward directions, lateral movement, in addition to the longitudinal direction also. While in case of strapped supports, you are restraining only vertical and lateral movement. While longitudinal movement is free (except for the factor of friction of course).
