Hey_MMoe M

I am a model-builder of mostly ships, but do like to do other models, airplanes, tanks, Real Science, & SciFi. Most of the models that I build are plastic of a smaller scale 1/700 ships, 1/72 airplanes, but I do have a few larger ships. I build to help you in building your model, but would also like to hear from Your tips on how you build...maybe we can share information about building models. I look forward to seeing your comments and how that you subscribe to my site.

To see some of my work, hit the link below, follow it to "Gallery" on the left, then look up "Modelers" on the Way upper left (a little bit under the "HOME" button, lastly look me up under my First name Last name.....you'll see it at the end of Each video.

    Awesome! Now I've seen it I'm gonna get it! But Im gonna build mine as the Enterprise 80, to help complete my history of the ships with that name. Just recently got the 1/350 CV-6, the XCV-330 Ring ship and USS Franklin from Star Trek, and the Interplanetary UFO from AMT, all of which I'm building as early Enterprise's, as well as the earlier sailing ships. And the future starships, of course. So thanks for showing us this kit so we could see that it's (kinda) worth it with all that incredible detail. American model companies take note! Anyway, have a better one!

    Oh, Yes... "American model companies take note!" Boy, I wish that were true...the ONLY ones that " I " can think of is 'Testor' and 'Monogram'...and we know how they work. Instead, I've seen US companies doing mostly '3D-printed' stuff And photo-etch..... here is a listing of model companies, see which you have heard of .... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scale_model_kit_manufacturers But, as for GR FORD....it I S an Extraordinary kit, from China (Hong Kong{??}) and they have some VERY Unique kits, as I have the MRZR-D4 and Came REALLY close to getting that F-4U Corsair kit, But already have one from 'Tamiya'. As for the GR FORD....I like your idea of getting the ENTERPRISEs together....that 'AMT' "Interplanetary UFO" is an Interesting choice on the subject, as far as "Star Fleet" vessels!! I plan on making MY FORD as USS DORIE MILLER CVN-81....as it Was a KNOX-class frigate back in the days when I served ( USS MILLER FF-1091) and I Do have a KNOX-class frigate in my stash.

    @@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P Hey Moe, whaddya know! First, thanks for your service. I was in the Air Force from 78 to 82 myself at Norton AFB, CA. In 79, in the Motion Picture, at a display on the rec deck, Decker tells Ilia: "All those vessels were called Enterprise.". That planted the seed in my head. Then Diane Duane's novel The Final Frontier gave a brief overview of the history of the ship on page 152 pouring a bit of fertilizer on the seed, and I was on my way! Diane's story is much better than Trek V with the same title, with the ship on its first shakedown cruise under Robert April. Kirk's father George campaigns to name the new ship Enterprise. So now we know how it got its name. Well, from then on I was Enterprise crazy! I'm a life long sci-fi, Trekker and modeller and been gathering kits, books, magazines, videos, custom parts and watching lots of utube videos since back then. To build the ships from a 1588 galleon to the Enterprise J, and a few others in between. My Interplanetary UFO idea is that, after the disappearance of the Valiant- and the Bonaventure before that- UESPA/Starfleet did a crash program to upgrade the technology as much as possible at the time with a new class of ship as the immediate successor to the Valiant- the Lief Erickson class! Just add warp nacelles! Have other ideas like a DY-1000, Delta, Deadalus, Bonaventure, Moscow classes, and a concept version of the Enterprise H and I. Don't really like the on screen ENT G, as it looks like a 100 year old throw back from the ENT F. Much prefer the Rifleman 80 concept of the ship. (See Utube). As for model companies, where do I start!? Known them all since '65! Revell, Monogram, Aurora, AMT, MPC And now Polar Lights, Moebius, and Doll and Hobby under the Round 2 umbrella. Yeah, Testors and the rest, et al. Revell was and remains the worst for parts fitting and overall details, with old Aurora a close second. Happily they've greatly improved as Polar Lights/Moebius, but they could still use some tweaking up. (Clear parts for the windows and docking bays on the 2001 space station as one of the newest and many examples). Though the overall details are much better than the old days. AMT also left a lot to be desired back then, but have gotten better over the years. Except they should have retooled the original Enterprise kit for the 50th anniversary edition! That kit was never quite right and needs to be done to the standard of the 1/1000 and 1/350 kits. Moebius/AMT take note! I still have the first ENT kit I got for Xmas 1966 with the original box! Been reworking it as a pilot version of the ship, but have a few pictures of my original build. And I have several more kits from each reissue of it, along with every other sci-fi kit I can ever get my hands on! I think I have an impressive stash now, with more coming! Anyway, I could go on and on, but I've bored you enough for now! Thanks for answering my comment! Always nice to "chat" with a fellow modeller! Cool beans! Have a better one!

    @@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P Yeah Moe, me too. Got our first TV in 1960 when I was 4. Immediately cut my teeth on the Buster Crabbe series Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers and George Reeves Superman, along with Outer Limits and Twilight Zone, the Irwin Allen shows, the Gerry Anderson shows and, for Anime, the original Astro Boy. (I recently got the new complete series of Astro Boy and the movie Metropolis by the same Japanese director.). Then came Star Trek, The Invaders, UFO, STARLOST, Space: 1999 (marked down from $2001!), Battlestar Galactica and so on... In 1970 I saw 2001 and knew I wanted to work in film as I came out of the theater. It remains my favorite movie of all time. (Just got the new Space Station V kit two weeks ago) In fact, joined the AF to hitch a ride to California so Uncle Sam could feed me and give me shelter while I persuade my carrer. I was a crew chief on C-141s there but transferred to AVVS/DAVA headquarters which was conveniently right there at Norton, where I was a camera man, editor, negative cutter, and inspector. I continued there after my hitch as civil service, while trying to get into Hollywood. Didn't quite work out, and a long story, but we got downsized out and I ran out of options; ended up back here in NY. I also grew up with the space program and have a life long passion for it. (Sputnik went up just a month after my first birthday.). I was glued to the TV for every broadcast: Gagarin, Glenn, Tereshkova, Ranger, Surveyor, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and the Shuttle... Science, sci-fi and history have always walked hand in hand with me, and combined to form my OCD about the long history of the Enterprise and the context of history in which they served, both real and fictional. I was also a Carl Sagan fan before a lot of people heard of him and was blown away by Cosmos when it came on in 1980. Those were great times: Trek and Wars and all the great stuff their success made possible. And I had fun! And I miss those days. But now I finally get to start working on my hobby projects in my retirement, free from work, family, relationships and a lot of the responsibilitys that consume us in our working years, having collected this stuff all these years for just this time of my life. Enjoyed it as a kid and teenager, and now I get to have the fun of doing it all over again, and more! Anyway, that's a look at part of my story. Didn't mean to go this long but it just got away from me. Well, cool beans! (Never heard that before, but it kinda grows on ya.). Have a better one!

    Oh, My...... It's been Awhile..... since I last commented on this kit....surprisingly I didn't List the colors on the video NOR on the 'Description', sorry. But, to answer your question, I went with the colors that came with the instructions... they are All 'Tamiya' colors in a spray: AS-27 for the planes, all over; TS-32 for the lighter gray hull and island (Strangely, Many JMSDF ships don't paint their walking areas a "different color"), so spray This color ALL Over the ship, except the Flight Deck (FD); TS-48 for the FD ( Just Mask the area where the island will be place....better glue adhesion ); for the Lower Hull I used 'Mr. Color' 29 - Hull Red....it is a Very dark "hull red". But, as far as compatible colors...I'm sure that there are, I just haven't research That part, And I hope you have those colors at your local hobby store. Although I live in SoCal area...there is Brookhurst Models, I believe that you can "order" those colors on-line. Let me know how you do with getting those paints......amending the 'Description', Now.

    I served on Iowa March 1987-August 1989. R-Division DC2 (was HT3 before rating split in 1988). I currently work at the shipyard that reactivated Iowa and Wisconsin in the 1980s. Due to the world stage as it is right now, I would support the reactivation/buy back of the Iowas and have upgrades made. Here's why. Yes, turret two is a memorial. That being said, the gun house could be removed and set as a permanent memorial. The turret barbette would make an absolutely fantastic VLS (Vertical Launch System) for missiles, possibly even hypersonics like the Zumwalts are getting. Imagine having a warship capable of destroying essentially an entire fleet and also have capabilities of mopping up the remainder of the at sea battlefield when everyone runs out of missiles. Also, what a wonderful way to honor our fallen shipmates! "You guys did not die in vain! Iowa still lives and fights!" Just my thoughts whether anyone agrees with me or not.

    Question were are you getting the power from when the main engines and power units are off. Absolutely amazing they moved after nearly fourty years.

  • @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P
    @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P2 ай бұрын

    Certainly....... we get our power from => Shore Power. Yes, you are correct, we cannot run our engines anymore, and I don't think any one of the IOWA-class ships ( or for That matter any Other US BB, but I might be talking out of my hat ) can turn their engines over. Thus we rely on our shore power where we install lines from the pier to our ship..... we have Enough electrical power to actually move the turret around, as you see in the video. But, alas.....Many 'Commenters' mention/request that we "turn EVERYTHING On!!" But that won't happen, because that would require much MORE electrical power to get ALL Turret Systems operational. So instead we turn-on a couple of things at a time.....the turning of the turret was Just ONE (1) system, and That required Much electrical power. We were able to do this with our SUPER Volunteer Staff...VERY Knowledgeable Guys/Gals that help get the motors running, let alone be able to find which electrical cable goes where and THEN....run a system test. And that is what we did in THIS Video. BUT Watch the videos on "WHY, why did we Turn 'Turret 3'?" and "HOW, how did we 'Turn Turret 3'?".... as this will explain in GREATER Detail...Find the links at the end of the video.

I Never bought a spray booth before and I reviewed a few of them before I purchased this one and got it at a Pretty Good price. Though I never used it inside a room/my home...It saves me from getting "yelled at" by my wife, as I would spray or drop paint on her patio table outside. But, in all seriousness, it seems to do the job and having a DUAL Fan with easy assemble lights ( though I Still have not found out on how to replace the LEDs within ). Using it with lacquer paints is SUCH a pain-free job, now. Currently, I have used the booth nearly ten (10) times and I have not replace the filter, but it SHOULD be a pretty easy process.... I Might plan on replacing it after fifteen (15) times. Last comment from me........ just be careful when attaching/removing the lights, I did show in this video how to install and remove them in order.

    Hey, 'psycomustang'!!! ( I like that 'handle' ) Thanks for asking that question... Seriously, there is no kit to make a M104 Wolverine, but Can THIS kit be used to make a Wolverine.... I would say, YES!! There are Many reference pictures of the M104 ( although the Wolverine is not part of the US Army, anymore ). I would probably Get this kit and use a Majority of the pieces with ... and a M1 tank chassis. It WILL Be a L O T of work, if you are talented enough, as THIS kit has for me, it Will be a Challenge.

    Roger that......... Although, the M104 HAB, was Considered to be purchased by the US Forces, it seems like the Marines will be deploying the M1074 JAB (Joint Assault Bridge)...... a scissors-type deployment Type tank. I don't know much about 'ARMY'-Stuff because I'm a USN Veteran who builds mostly ships (though, I have been expanding my model skills to other genera), I kinda wish that the US Forces would have deployed the horizontal type bridge that the Bundeswehr has deployed1!

    @@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P the US Army is using the JAB, I was part of the JAB evaluation over a decade ago. It’s a great replacement for the old AVLB. The JAB is better overall bridge, it faster to deploy, the draw back it fuel consumption. I was an M104 operator when the Army field the M104 20+ years ago and deployed them to Iraq. Lastly the model gives me an idea to build a model Wolverine. Thank you for sharing.

    @@jflyg2652 WOW.....Cool Beans, a Person who Actually Eval a piece of military equip AND Actually used it in Iraq.👍👍👍 Yeah, as far as the model, JUST TO Let You know.... that the Laying Arm Will NOT be able to support the bridge, not even half way out. Although the rollers, which their are sixteen (16) of 'em. do "grip" the bridge quite well!! But as you extend the bridge to go Further out ( so as to attach to the other half to the other ) the PISTON on the Laying Arm slips out to lower the bridge.... I mentioned to another modeler, that I F You make the piston extended OR make it metallic as a piece O R Even extend that Piston with a threaded rod on Both ends and add hex nuts to that far off end..... It Could support the weight of the that HALF bridge. NOW, I have been "dreaming about" if I attach both halves could THAT larger extension of the bridge actually hold up. But I'm sure You know, that once you extend that LARGE bridge, just before laying down, there is a LOT of weight on that arm.........so the Laying Arm might need to be reinforced inside the model tank. SO 'jflyg2652'.......... You have A L O T of scratch-building to do, Even with the M1 hull/M014 mod. That will be QUITE something, if that can be pulled-off. • @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P
    @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P4 ай бұрын

    Thanks, 'craigfazekas'....but KEEP a FEW Things in Mind!!! When dealing with a warped piece of a resin model, 1) make sure you have a tub/container Big enough to handle the piece, the piece in question needs to be submerged completely, otherwise the rest of the piece will not conform. 2) Make Sure that the water is hot, JUST on the verge of boiling, where you see bubbles form ( around 200F / ~<100C ). 3) Most importantly, make sure you have a STRONG back plate to make your item flat. The First and Last comments are SO important, I literally looked All over my house looking for a strong back and a container to fit my item. 4) Make sure you test your securing "straps" (rubber bands in this case), make sure they don't interfere with the piece at all and You have the ability of putting the "straps" on & off without any issues. Lastly, 5) Be Patient!!! You Might need to re-heat the water, just make sure that the piece doesn't touch ANY part of the heat, except the water. And depending on the piece it could take ~30 minutes to YOUR hull piece for a couple of hours. { NOTE: IF you are in cold weather....let your piece get to a nominal temperature, before you start your 'hot water bat', not sure what will happen if your piece is Cold and submerge it in "boiling water" } Also, keep in mind ....... Does it need to be COMPLETE Flat??!! If there is some slight bowing then be done with it...more worried about the "straps" deforming your piece. Have a thermometer at the ready, after heating the water, set the heat source low temp just to keep the water temp constant. There have been Several videos about this Exact issue.... take a look how they did theirs ( except I have YET....tried to put my piece in an oven at low temp setting ). And I was lucky, it was relatively a small piece. THANKS for watching my video........ And I do hope that your model comes out well!!! Let me know if you have ANY questions!! That is what/why I'm here for!! Good Luck!!

    Really enjoying your posts on this build - I have this kit and it will be a lot easier to build learning from your experiences - it has been especailly useful gettinga good feel for how the bridge actually works as my plan is to display it fully deployed but still extended on the laying arm. Wondering if a screw jack might be an option to precisely control that main lifting ram - if you were to build one of these again...?

  • @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P
    @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P5 ай бұрын

    Hey, Thanks 'simononeill'..........That is a GREAT Question!! To be honest..... I don't know, but....... Last night, I was thinking, I F , I was to do this again, I MIGHT extend that Long piston rod ( remember that 'Hobby Boss' gives you two [2] for this kit, a shorter one of about ______ and a longer one which I didn't measure [ now I wish I did ] ). MayBe, if the bottom of the turret was cut a bit open and attach a metal weighted rod..... Hear me out. The "turret" with the laying arm will need to be reinforce, something I will probably do since there is a major attachment plug on the bottom of the turret piece...that will be inserted into the upper hull of the tank. -> Then, I would attach a metal rod with a few weighted hex nuts on one end and screw the other end metal rod onto the piston -> so the piston will be part plastic, and a double threaded metal rod with hex nuts on the other end. Because it is the PISTON that needs to be strong to hold up at least a part of the bridge AND to be Honest, to Hold UP THE W H O L E Bridge extended would be Quite a Feat with THIS model. Unless you do attach an engine for controlling that piston. But I don't have that ability......yet. So That is What " I " would do....if I were to do this kit again..... heck I might even cut out a hole in that attachment plug, so that way the weight could extend into the hull of the tank. BUT I did plan on attaching a weight onto the back of the tank, inside the hull. After seeing how the Laying arm was still coming down when the bridge is partially extended I realize that adding a weight into the inside of the Leo2 would Not give that piston ANY Advantage. Lastly, I kinda figured this Could happen as I was getting ready to build the bridge units...pulling out All of those sprues, it Just Weighed TOO Much!! MayBE 'Hobby Boss' could lessen the weight of the plastic, but I don't know how they would do that. I Hope that explanation helps "My Dreams"....... But, I SURELY Like to know what Others do with their builds, that is Why I post my build..... as L O N G as they are. So I LOOK Forward in seeing Your build and hope my ideas come out better OR you (and others) come up with their own!🏁🏁🏴‍☠

    thanks for the video. i am rigging my first ship soon. already bought the lines and good to know i can use superglue. I have one question, when the lines comes out of another line (like a T) i see many ships that there is a white "ball" in the intersection of the T. can i replicate that just with a bigger drop of super glue? or by your experience too much glue over the line would make the line crack over the time because it became a hard glue ball? or this method doesnt work at all , its better use another kind of glue when it comes to the "T" intersection? thank you :D

  • @Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P

    Ah, Y E S ..... I know Exactly what you are doing.... May I ask, what scale you are doing, And, what type of rigging....is it the nylon/ stretchy kind OR the metal type line?? What you are doing is pretty difficult, I tried doing that on my 'Hasegawa' 1/700 IJN Kaga with ~"Meh" results.... IF 700 scale, I suggest that you practice with your "lines" first.... I used the metal line as the horizontal part, but it needs to be measured Accurately, then super glued between points of attachments. Then, use the nylon line to attach the Vertical part of the line from the horizontal line to where you are attaching it to ( the deck ). IF 350 scale, you can use nylon line to both horizontal and vertical lines....B U T attach the horizontal as before, but Be Careful, because attaching the vertical will tend to "twist"/"tangle" because of the super glue goes down the treads that make UP that nylon line. So Here, I would....( WHICH " I " Didn't do ) use white glue for that vertical line attachment. NOTE: I have NOT used anything But super glue for fastening these lines, and Practicing is NECESSARY and be Patient.... It took awhile to achieve the results on IJN Kaga and I would like to try it again ... making that T-intersection, but Now most of my ships are just straight drop lines for pennants, but I Do use metal lines for the radio lines. I Hope this helps.....Please let me know if you have A N Y Questions...let me know and hopefully we can BOTH learn something new. Let me know how it goes....

    @@tulio8198 If I may..... just a little more advice.... Start from the INSIDE/Center first, then move outward on the yardarm. But more importantly, add a touch of SG on the center-most part of the yardarm, add the line while holding the line with tweezers on one (1) side and the spool of line on the other hand. Let it set for a few moments, then stretch the line a ~little bit.....keeping it on the spool, add SG on the "other side" where you are placing it and place the line on that. IN BOTH Ends... make sure you have a bit of excess, on Both ends of the line. Then cut off excess with manicure scissors, that is what I use to cut the lines. Just be careful while unspooling, I had a little difficulty once that I got the line mixed-up and unspooled the wrong direction = getting the line Tangle.....Aggghhh.👎👎👎👎👎 I wish you Good Luck, using the toothpicks is a good idea...that's what I did at first while practicing! 👍👍

I Could...build this ship, since the kit is SO Complete in detail.....The ONLY detail I need to do is the photo-etch of railing, ladders, and hatches/doors & I Have that As well!!

    hey moe. that’s a great review and wow nice kit. i saw separate catwalks which will make the painting and masking easier . i’ll do a review when i get mine but i think you’ve covered almost everything . are you sure there’s a PE set from Gold medal? i thought that company has already stopped producing. anyway thanks for the review.

    Yeah....those catwalks are ALWAYS a pain in building A/C (Aircraft Carriers), I have to mask the catwalks with a little edge along the FD (Flight Deck), then spray the FD, paint the catwalk deck a possible different color, THEN Re-paint the vertical/inside edges of the catwalk...carefully!! And with the 'GMM' PE, yes they still sell....Loren Perry sold his material ( his PE, only...he still sells his RR stuff ) to 'Squadron'.... I left a link in the 'Description'. IF Anything...I might buy the 'NIMITZ-class carrier' sheet, even though you'll Probably use only half, IF That, of the sheet, but it is the railing that I would want to get ..... AND Those Sector Antennae ( they look like 'spiny forks' around the island....two [2] per side ) They are VERY Difficult to replicate w/o buying the sheet JUST for That set of parts.

    @@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P if you want railings and ladders only there are cheap generic chinese brands of PE which i use for both 1/350 and 1/700 which comes in handy when you ruin the premium PE. i’m very demotivated to get expensive PE for 1/700. for 1/350 i have no choice sometimes.

    @@modelar705 Oh, I KNOW about ruining PE..... OH B O Y !!!! I'll mentioned it .... when I post my Shandong Type 002 A/C, Probably later this month!!! But as for getting "cheap"/generic brands of railings & ladders....I have that, but there MIGHT be, some very Distinct PE that I need to get for FORD. As-a-matter-o-fact, I JUST finished looking over four (4) videos on this site about FORD, when she was in Norway and Croatia....and I can see those Certain antennae that I was looking for and sure enough.......they are there on and around the island!! BUT when I saw the position of the port CIWS, it was Not on the port sponson, instead it is Right in the middle of the FD...JUST below it!! Is it in the model kit (??!!) and it is!!!

    Hey, 'modelar'....I KNEW you would be a bit jealous, as I was when you showed your Fujian😉 BUT, seriously, I ~kinda know the person who I ordered it from on "That Site", I have spoken to him Quite often...sending messages. And I guess I was able to get it within the FIRST Week of the New Year!! I plan on showing a bit MORE of a video, a better layout than just this 'Short'. BUT, I must say.... 'Magic Factory' Does have a few Good Looking models!! If you saw I have, on my Channel, the 1/35 MRZR D4....and it comes with TWO (2) Kits!!!🤯 Now they do have a small handful of different models, but it is interesting that I have a "Ground model" (MRZR D4), a "Sea Model" (the GR FORD), do I get the "AIR MODEL" because they do have a Vought Corsair of WW2 fame { but I already have a 1/48 'Tamiya' }😮

    @@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P Haha. nice revenge you did. so it was payback for the fujian huh. 🤣 Magic factory is a mysterious company. it’s hard to tell what’s thier focus because they do air sea and land subjects. when i first saw thier Type 55 which is a snap kit i thought they were targeting different groups of modelers. then suddenly they announced the Ford class which is a regular kit. anyway i’m looking forward to this kit. hope to see more from you.

    Very thorough, enjoyed your explanation of what your goal is to the function of the vehicle laying the bridge. Thanks for sharing your insights. Take care and model on my friend! Johnny

    Thanks 'hillbilly..', I try to give As BEST an explanation as I can. The video(s) are a bit winded, because I want to Explain EVERY Detail so when Somebody Else does this kit...they could do the same things I have done, OR improve on them, who Knows!! But, the Next PART of the build will be Extremely important part as I will attached the gearing system to allow the bridge-work to be deployed.....I just hope it works out!!
