Heavy Enduro Racing

Heavy Enduro Racing

The bikes we choose to ride are not typically associated with Enduro. They are built for long distance travel, with large displacement engines, monster gas tanks, seats for two, and a couple of panniers. Most often found on dirt roads, loaded with luggage, and headed for adventure. Let’s be honest, that’s what they’re designed for, and that’s what they’re good at.
But here at HE, we just think they’re big dirtbikes. We are at the beginning of our KZread journey so we'd be grateful if you could like and subscribe. It helps us to create content that includes bike builds, gear reviews and race & adventure documentaries.

    Assuming that she tips the scale at 200kg or thereabouts , how does she fair in the dunes? Must be a near WOT conditions at all times...

  • @HeavyEnduroRacing
    @HeavyEnduroRacing4 ай бұрын

    Fully fueled we are around a 1/4 of a tonne. The Big bikes fair just fine in the dunes of Merzouga. The extra horses just powers up the bigger stuff. The extra weight makes for a stable ride. Just a little more commitment/speed needed and you don't really want to be getting much air off the back of a dune. They don't like that much. The LC8 does need a bigger radiator ideally. The 950 that preceded this 990 had a custom bigger rad and oil tank placed elsewhere.

    @@HeavyEnduroRacing I'm asking because I've put 110K kms on my 2009 990 and it never overheated in Greek summer conditions, but we obviously don't have dunes here. Just beach riding which is flat. I am in the market for my second 990. I sold the other one years ago and still regret it. P.S. if you had issues with the fan(s), like you wrote in the description, it's expectable to run hot. I don't think it needs a bigger radiator. Sand in the radiator fins could be another hindering factor?

    @@C_R_O_M________ There was an issue during the race with a fan (we run 2) which was replaced and sorted. Also run a lower temp fan switch and have a manual override. The bike overheated quite a few times during the dune sections in this event. We have raced in Greece (Hellas) and others in the Balkans with no overheating on a standard rad. The dunes are just a massive load on the motor. Lots of high revs. Collectively we have done over 10 desert races in Africa on the LC8 including the Africa Eco Race. From 1st hand experiences a bigger rad is needed in these events. Most rally bikes run big rads and/or an oil cooler. Many thanks, Chris

    @@HeavyEnduroRacing Hi there, Where did you make/buy your bigger rad please ?

  • @HeavyEnduroRacing
    @HeavyEnduroRacing3 ай бұрын

    @@49morton I used a guy here in the UK but they no longer make them. The reason is that we can't find anyone who will supply and/or curve the core needed. After Covid and Brexit companies went bust and things got crazy expensive. I wanted a 2nd rad for a project but we have had to give up. Sorry, I can't help.

    I have a 990 08 m0del and absolutely agree with the carburettor being easier to ride . Instant power , far better torque . At low revs the injectors get confused and can give a jerky feel at low speed off road work . Not pleasant it necessitates a lot of clutch slipping . I have ridden the 950 carb version and it is a joy . Very forgiving , very much easier to operate with better torque therefore far better acceleration . Smooth and powerful . The injectors just can't match that . Kev Australia .

    Thank you for this video!!! I have a 10 990 adv and have been very happy and satisfied with her... I don't have the big throttle issues most people complain about. But, but... after going through forums and such, it makes me want to buy a 950 and another 990 and convert it to carbs... me thinking, If I have been so very happy with what I have, if a 950 and a carb converted 990 IS that much snappier=happier, makes me want to try it out...

  • @HeavyEnduroRacing
    @HeavyEnduroRacing8 ай бұрын

    Ask said before this conversion suits my needs and works for my application. The 950 is definitely less thirsty. This is a good balance. Others have successfully taken a 990 and re-mapped and got rid of the snatchy nature of the EFI. There are people who are very skilled and know what they are doing in this area. I would also mention that parts are getting harder to find. The 950 timing wheel for example. All the best.
