Can this be left permanently plugged in to utilize Apple CarPlay, and if so, will it automatically power down with the ignition off to not drain the battery?
Not recommended to leave it plugged in permanently when the car is not driven for days.

The main difference is the ELM327 version that they are compatible with: V1.4 for BLE, and V2.2 for BLE+.

It depends on whether the app supports this. You do not need to manually remove and plug back in every time in order for it to work.
@@youngjohn3842 yes thanks I bought this and you do not need to manually plug it back in to make it alive again, my other one goes to sleep after 30 mns and had to unplug and plug it back it to make it work, this doesn't need to do that.

Usually you need to complete your car profiles in the app settings.
What is the diffence between the BLE and the BLE+?
The BLE+ supports more AT commands in higher ELM327 version.
