I love it, all the way until you get to about G. Then, it kind of starts sounding muddy. Even on my 8. I dont really down tune it too far. For the sake of the top strings. If you look up "Internal Darkness by shrine of Malice" Theres a guitar cover on that song and it's literally just in standard tuning. Except for the top two strings. The 7th is in A and the 8th string is in E. Sounds brutal as shit. I almost think it is a matter of preference, feel, and a few other things. But, as far as down tuning to sound heavy. I think it's just a matter of how you utilize your instrument. Each tuning definitely does add its own spice to the mix though.
I have an 8 string that I rarely play bc I really haven't found a good use for it yet. Somehow low-tuned 6 strings are just more my vibe, I guess.
@@NicolasPerrault I totally get that. Low tuned 6 strings are bad ass. I do most of my playing on an 8 string. But, weirdly I barely even touch the top strings while playing. I think I almost just like the feel of them more. The size of the fret board in general. I like to play more melodic, harmonic soloy stuff. I feel cured. Everytime I try to groove like you, it sounds like horse shit. Lol.
Youre bad ass man. Ive been watching your tutorial videos the last couple days. Now this. I really enjoy your content. If i can learn to play like this. Id be happy.
Thanks a bunch!
What pedals do you use ?
A headrush gigboard
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks
Thanks! Glad I could help!
Great stuff Man. Very thoughtful. Feedback. Check out The song Anthrax on Gang of Four's first album. Andy Gill's playing was genius. Still gets my adrenaline pumping.
Thanks! That intro alone is just a masterpiece of noise, love it!
I love Drone Metal because it's scary stuff, and it's also easy to play, and like other styles of Doom Metal it goes nicely with everything
Just sent this vid to my gutair player hes got work to do ... great vid
😅
just discovered this channel, well done!!! Really entertaining!! Enjoyable AND great instruction!!
Thanks! Sometimes I also make videos 😅
Just such fun to watch!! Really entertaining!!!And so informative!!
what is written on the flag to the left in the background? thx
It translates to "an injury to one is an injury to all". It's a IWW flag.
@@NicolasPerrault thank you very much, Nicolas, appreciate your feedback and all the effort you put into this marvellous channel ❤
Thanks!
I dont know anything about guitars or technique but i know that i love fuzzy riffs.
Thank you so much for your work. Truly inspiring. Can i ask where i can find an "evo" (not sure if i got it correctly) ?
Ebow. Thomann definitely carries them. These things might not be super versatile, but man are the fun
@@NicolasPerrault Thanks so much for the quick response. It sures sound so fun, I'm eager to try it !
Thats really cool. Thank you!
Thanks !
where's the black metal video? lol great tutorial. gonna try this stuff out.
I have one... it's just hella old. Gotta remake that...
dope vid! learned a lot
❤
Nice one, man. What is typical drum bpm in stoner rock?
That's a tough one. There's "fast" and slow. I'd say for a fast track try anything between 120 and 140, and for a slow track between 80 and 100. Now there are also suuuuuper slow tracks, that border on drone and some mid-tempo ones, but I feel these are good starting points.
@@NicolasPerraultthank you!will try
That was fun.
Toller Song, tolle Message!
I bought this guitar and I am very happy with it. I love the look, the sound and the build quality.
Awesome! Have fun with it!
auch ein sehr guter Text!
Could you make video about Sludge?
Sure thing!
this is really cool!
Thanks!
sehr cool
Vielen Dank!
First two Sabbath albums are in E standard.
True. But I like Vol 4 best, so there's that 😅
Nice work
Thanks!
Can you tell me the length / size of dunlop big stubby 3mm ?
I can't, unfortunately. I don't have one at the moment. If it helps, I've switched to the fat triangular pigtrum picks, they're roughly the same length, but triangular.

A lot of great advice here, the right hand is defiently the key here! You defiently want to dance when the band knows how to play the one!
Thanks!
Really useful stuff! Thank you so much!
DRONE & DOOM = Subscribed
Thx, mate!
It's a really good tutorial! It helped me a lot, to create a perfect tone for my experimental black metal/drone doom project. Greetings from Poland!!!
I’d love to hear your project! Can I find your work online? Greetings from USA.
@@Nicburon I'm currently recording the first album, so when it's done I could just put the link here if you'd want to. And btw the style is pretty much like a combination of Portal, Paysage D'hiver and Sunn O))), so it might not be for everyone but i hope you'd like it!
Okay boys, just buy some really fat strings already, quit fuckin around with those piddly little things, garbage excuses
Legendary telling about stoner )))) Thank you 🙏 ❤ Спасибо большое за подробное объяснение, чуть позже аернусь к нему еще раз с более свежей головой
As a former thrasher, I still struggle to put the treble down, the mids un scooped and such. I barely manage grooving instead of speeding... Now you tell me I have to use the neck pickup?! 😅 Thank you excellent tutorial and song. You make it look easy.
The struggle is real
None of these tones matter without the cabinets and tubes to provide the live experience. It's about the vibrations at huge volume.
Way too fast for me! Slower, please. Slower. Thank you.
I was nervous 🫀
So, _did_ you get your money for nothin' and your chicks for free? Enquiring minds need to know.
Don't know, I haven't played the guitar on the mtv
Love this dude. I browse other artists creative process videos whenever I find myself in a rut creatively and this was; as is perfectly described in the previous comment(s), insanely humbling to watch. Thanks for putting this together from the perspective of someone who isn’t trying to shove their KZread dependencies and monetization down my throat. Not all heroes wear capes. 🫡
Thanks so much, mate!
@@NicolasPerrault absolutely brother. Keep doing your thing man
Interesting that you're using a hollow body guitar for this, always liked the sound of one when used with a bunch of fuzz. Hits like a truck. I hope to start up my own stoner rock project some day, just need to gather a few like-minded folks to jam with. Cool video, cool track!
Thanks!
Спасибо большое мужик, разложил как надо!
Spasibo!
Tutorials like this just encourage hacks and copycats . If someone needs to be “taught” how to play doom, they probably shouldn’t be playing doom.
Is this where I point that... that's like just your opinion, man
There's only so many notes and variations of sounds. Everyone's a copy cat one way or the other. Whether you like it or not. This guy's videos are bad ass.
I put some heavy gauge strings (52-11) on a cheap jazzmaster copy to tune down to somewhere around C and stuff, though nicely distorted, sounds rather neat and ‘tidy’, so true that the standard strings tuned down make a ‘messier’ but also more interesting sound…making heavy and intense ‘scary’ music depends on dissonance, that’s why a lot of ‘heavy’ bands of late sound more like eurotrash productions to me 😂😂😂
Emotion and Depression nothing more to say
Nah, that's plenty.
Phew. Good to know. I'll stop then.
@@NicolasPerrault Thank you.
Great!
Thanks 😊!
Goddamn bro that was clean🔥🔥🔥
Thanks mate!
It is good for Halloween😂
You're probably right... I should sell my face as like latex masks to scare kids
Amazing, Nicolas. I agree: low and slow = heavy as shit. I'm looking to build the ultimate doom drone preset for my Neural Quad Cortex, 8 string. This was very informative, but would appreciate any feedback that could be helpful for Neural and Doom, if possible .
Whilst I personally don't have a QC, I've been meaning to make a tutorial on amp modelling for a while now. Thanks for reminding me
This video is a doom metal guitar science class. Good stuff!
Thanks mate! Glad you liked it
