Well said as always. One thing I want to add is that "spicy" books are a way to get ppl into a bookstore and especially libraries. Also, hearing about shipping bullshit makes me happy the stuff I like doesn't have the same judgemental masquerading as social justice bullshit thrown onto it.

Here’s a perspective from a frustrated shopper: I was invested in Reylo because I thought they were going to explore what it means to have to kill the man you love for the greater good of the universe, and even if that is a ridiculous thing to try to sell, daisy and Adam sold it for me. Where the new series fucked up was teasing so many couples in the beginning, especially since daisy and John had good chemistry as well. They used Boyega to market the Movie so it would get seats in theaters and then sidelined his character completely. This is what originally spoiled the movie and every interesting idea they explored including reylo. It makes me mad how they hint at Finn having a crush on Rey and then completely ignore it like “oh now there’s a white love interest in the mix time to ignore Finn” it’s honestly so unnecessarily racist and ruins the reylo storyline as well as Finns character. If they wanted a happy love story they should have written Rey and Finn as a couple and if they wanted a tragic one they should have written a version of reylo where Finns feelings for Rey are completely platonic and either one of them has to kill kylo in the end because let’s face it, he basically is hot young space Hitler. And don’t get me started on what they did with Rose and Jannah, fighting racism with racism, great idea!

I think for Luke it’s not that Luke doesn’t like the working class. Like is suppose to be a father figure to Rory so just like any other parents they just want their kid to do better than what they are.

Bella is 17 not 15…it’s halfway through her junior year that she moves to Forks, and it’s only a year and a half after this that they get married so between them meeting and until they have their baby it’s like a year and a half or maybe two years

Great job on this video. Relevant to my interests, given I'm a fanfiction writer who goes out of my way to make sure my ledger is a thing of horror. I don't think it will really change any minds but such is the nature of argumentative video essays. Very well constructed and it'll probably be enlightening to people who aren't in the know about this kind of thing. But, I will (lightheartedly) take one issue: the statement that 'this only happens to m/f ships' is either very wrong or very fandom dependent, lmao. Centre-right dickheads LOVE weaponizing social justice language and constructing ethical failings against queer ships to try to dignify their het ones, at least in all the fandoms I've been in. But then my fandoms tend to be video game adjacent and I think those trend far more centre/cishet than book groups. Though, surely that must have been a thing in the She-Ra fandom given how much people love to talk about how Catradora is "incest-coded"? Still! Good video. Thanks for making it.

I have no interest in barricading and rating books, but I understand people who are young wanting other kids to have more control over potentially traumatizing things than they did. I feel like most people read something for class that was at the least painful and uncomfortable (for me it was reading the Scarlet Ibis freshman year of high school). The way school is set up here, there's not usually much space to be sensitive to kids and the emotional tax that can happen when they still have all the other classes to go to and lives outside of school. So I think these people want to protect kids from Bad Things and don't know a better way to do it than to pretend the thing doesn't exist until they're older. I don't agree with that approach, it's half baked and doesn't teach people media literacy or emotional resilience, but I understand where it comes from.

If you want to see some Martha without the doctor she had a reoccurring role on the second series of torchwood. She’s left the doctor at this point refuses advances cause she’s with Tom Ellis (yeah never should have ended with Mickey. I I think in my head they did that cause they. Couldn’t get tom Ellis back for filming cause he had his own show and they didn’t want her to be alone so they give her Mickey the prize nobody wanted) I hadn’t seen those Martha episodes since they first aired and I was in college so I was really floored by how much she shines in them away from the doctor. But that’s me looking back at 40. I too never thought she should have been rewritten to love the doctor. I enjoyed rose and the doctor buy I am an old Iife time watcher of the show. I started back in the 80’s with Tom baker and watched it as a kid. So I got tired of the doctor being he center of the universe and stopped watching around vampires in Venice with Matt smith. (‘please do watch capaldi’s run I think it’s the best so far of new who and he comes in as my second favorite doctor after Tom baker) I only recently went back to finish the seasons I didn’t watch when I heard about Ncuti Gatwa and as a gay man I just had to be there for it like I was for torchwood (please writing gods do better then torchwood). I always thought Martha had been done wrong and I knew even as I watched it her run was not gonna age well once the memory of the doctor who show coming back and rose and all the hype we had in the day. So again if you wan to see her on her own torchwood season 2

I absolutely read Ruffalo’s attraction to Bella as intentionally pedophilic, but in the way that men’s attraction to perceived weakness and naivety is fundamentally a pedophilic. I think that’s the statement, that A.) men are told to seek in women traits that are most present in literal infants, B.) this is so ingrained that some men would literally not notice that their partner had a baby brain, and C.) even with that level of intellectual disadvantage, Bella is STILL too intelligent and self-assured to support the ego of the men arounher.

27:55 JKR said the "South American school" (making wizards and witches from at least TWELVE COUNTRIES go to that school) named Castelobruxo would be in Brazil. Among all the countries she could've picked, she picked one of the three countries in South America that don't speak Spanish, the predominant language. Yeah, I don't think she thought the schools part through.

I would push back on the claim u made about ruffalo's character not liking kids (cant remember his name bc hes so pathetic). While I do agree that he has plausible deniability, and that the film is in no way condoning his actions, I think that ruffalo is attracted to bella's innocence and naivety, both because he is intrigued by it but also because he likes the fact that she seems easily manipulative. Am i convicting him right here and now? No, but i do think that he is or will soon be on a list

    A. Paul isn't the hero, B. Paul in the books isn't White, the only White characters in the books are the Harkonnens Also, Valyrians are native Essosians, and Essos is much whiter in the books than in the show which had to deal with local casting. So Dany has more in common with The Dothraki, Slavers, etc... than she does with Westerosi, genetically.

also i just....don't find the existence of sex bad? like the concept of 'oh god don't let children learn about sex' is bizarre to me. it's how we reproduce. it is a literal fact of life. like the pearl clutching around public sex and depictions of sex in media as if seeing sex is going to do anything to you is so weird. you are not going to be harmed by seeing sex. just because something makes you uncomfortable personally doesn't make it bad. i would much prefer a child/teen encountering sex for the first time in a safe space like media they can control (ie, reading a book, watching a tv show etc) that allows them to stop whenever they want than being thrown headfirst into a situation with someone that might have a power dynamic over them that takes away their agency. teens ARE CURIOUS. i want them to have safe options of exploration and learning!

Thank you for making this video!!!! Even though it's not delved into deeply in the film, Tashi's relationship to Tennis (and these two privileged white men in her life) is deeply informed by the toxic sexist and racist environment of Tennis. I keep seeing people say she's the shallowest character and it pisses me off. Tennis isn't just generically important to her. She's not pushing herself to be a great athlete just because she's driven. She has so many other factors to consider. I feel like part of why she chose Art was because he sees her as valuable even without Tennis (after her injury on their applebees date he basically says he's still in love with her) but he also respects her tennis prowess because he asks her to be his coach. But then he doesn't actually respect tennis, he's just doing it for her. And I feel like the only reason she's still attracted to Patrick is because she doesn't like herself. And she doesn't realize how much better she deserves.

I watched this on Prime the other day , I think it did not do well at the box office for one simple fact , it was boring , when you tell the same story three times with the variance in each version pretty minute it becomes tedious . Her character was definitely the most interesting if you don't include Ben Affleck character .

I don't think black women should infuse transphobia under the conversation of misogynoir when that itself is inherently anti-black female. Why? because black women were considered to be men even when we were women. we were stripped of our autonomy- but they knew we were always women. when they abused us in slavery, when they used black women's bodies to study health, to torture us, to rape us, etc. it's not comparable to trans. trans want to be women but are biologically male, we are not. do not say feminine is a white construct, as even african tribes understood the idea. we [black women] are women through and through. nothing less, nothing more. it is harmful to perpetuate the idea that trans is the same as our issue

"Even though that charisma is attractive, that entitlement is very off-putting." / "Art has the freedom to BE fragile." / "Tashi doesn't respect either of them because they don't respect the sacrifices needed to play tennis." How does it feel to be so correct on all the most critical issues? Delicious vid, I loved all the background context to show exactly where Tashi would have known she was in the world of tennis as a Black woman and an up-and-coming star.

This is why the 92 movie frustrates me so much. I adore the vision and the art direction and the horny energy. And i think the first half - until Mina meets Dracula - is practically perfect. Once the reincarnated love story kicks off, its diminished - as is minas character. From there I'm just watching for the costumes and spooky effects 😭
